Chapter 89: Truly a Good Big Brother
Chapter 89: Chapter 89: Truly a Good Big Brother
"Boss, it’s just the few of us left now. The others are gone. We searched around and found traces of a struggle, along with some blood. Our other comrades probably didn’t make it."
"Boss, there must be a few tough guys left on this ship. Otherwise, with our squad’s setup, we wouldn’t have been wiped out so easily without a single one escaping!"
Hearing this, Yang Bo nodded and asked, "Brothers, what are your thoughts now? Should we wait for the enemy warship to arrive, or should we try to figure out a way to escape first? I don’t believe they can intercept all of our escape pods."
"Boss, why don’t we stuff these hostages and everyone else into the escape pods, and then make a run for it? Whoever manages to escape, escapes." Hearing Yang Bo’s words, one pirate immediately agreed and even came up with a "brilliant" idea.
"I don’t think that’s a good idea. First of all, there are barely any spaceships in this sector of airspace, and the chances of being discovered by an official spaceship are even higher. I think we can negotiate with them. After all, we have so many hostages in our hands!"
"Boss, I also think we can negotiate. At worst, we’ll just turn state’s evidence, but the premise is that they must protect our families!"
"Yeah, Boss, we know a lot of information about other pirates. Besides, I feel like we were set up this time!"
"Boss, those scumbags on Pado Star probably had bad intentions. Was their intel intentionally flawed to cause this situation?"
"Boss, I also feel like something’s not right on Pado Star. Was the Red Earl’s attack last time really that easy?"
"The Red Earl had been silent for hundreds of years. Who knows where they’ve infiltrated? Anyway, I feel like things have been restless lately. How about we go to March Star and hide out for a while, Boss? Even if we turn state’s evidence, we won’t serve that many years in prison."
"Boss, we are pirates! Surrendering isn’t in our vocabulary. Let’s hijack these hostages and demand they send a warship over. If they don’t, we’ll kill everyone and run for our lives!"
"I don’t think that’s wise. Our communications are cut off right now, and the outside world has no idea what’s happening to us. If we piss them off, they might just stage an ’accident’ and let us perish together with this Baisha Transport Ship!"
"Boss, whatever you say goes!"
Yang Bo glanced around and pointed at a few men. "You guys come with me to contact the people on the warship. We’re going to negotiate. We must ensure the safety of our brothers. It doesn’t matter what happens to me; I’ll find a way to escape when the time comes, and you guys can pin all the blame on me!"
"Boss, you can’t! You can’t leave us behind!"
"Exactly, Boss!"
"Boss, I killed all those people! I’ll take the blame!"
Seeing the pirates act like this toward him, Yang Bo was actually a little moved. However, the identity of the Pirate Leader still had its uses and definitely needed to disappear for now.
"Stop talking. You guys aren’t qualified. Besides, as accomplices, you won’t be sentenced to many years. If I get out alone, maybe by the time you’re released, we can enjoy ourselves together again!" How could Yang Bo let the Pirate Leader stick around? What would he do about his own identity then? He had to figure out a way to pull a disappearing act.
Among the pirates, everyone had their own ulterior motives. They were basically at a dead end now. Some wanted to surrender, while others wanted to go out with a final bang. But those who wanted one last thrill completely dropped the idea after hearing Yang Bo’s words.
After all, if they pinned the blame on the boss, their own culpability would definitely be much smaller. If the boss got caught with them, they would just go to jail together. But if the boss somehow managed to escape, they could be exonerated, or at least get a reduced sentence.
"Boss!"
"Boss!" The pirates were deeply moved by his words.
"Let’s go. I’ll negotiate the terms for you. I’ll take on all the charges right to their faces. Just be smart about it when the time comes. I’ll be waiting on the outside for you to come out so we can continue to build our great enterprise. We must avenge this!"
"I also think this whole situation is very bizarre. There’s definitely something wrong with the intel provided by Pado Star," Yang Bo said. He added this rambling purely to leave himself a way out for the future. Just in case he couldn’t make a living later on, coming back out as a pirate was always a viable option. After all, who could say for sure what the future held?
An hour later, Yang Bo led a few pirates to establish contact with the warship.
Placing a signal relay directly outside the Baisha Transport Ship, Yang Bo and the others started a video call with the other party from inside. On the screen, both sides glared at each other like tigers!
"Shameless! You actually ran onto our warship!" Yang Bo spoke first, pointing an accusatory finger. In reality, Yang Bo was quite touched; it was somewhat dangerous for the other party to risk going to the warship. But in his current identity as a pirate, he definitely had to project an imposing aura!
On the warship, the youth playing with Rift in his hands looked at the Pirate Leader on the screen with amusement. "Seeing how flustered and exasperated you are, I can tell you don’t have any good ideas right now, do you?"
Yang Bo sneered and said, "I don’t know if there’s something wrong with your brain, actually connecting with me in front of so many people. If we kill everyone on the Baisha Transport Ship right now, sure, us pirates will be judged by the law, but what about you?"
"Shameless!" The youth, who had just accused him of being flustered and exasperated, squeezed the word out through gritted teeth. He knew that if that happened, his future would be absolutely ruined, and he might even go to prison. After all, with so many people dead, it would be normal for someone to take the fall.
"HAHAHA, seeing how flustered and exasperated you are, I can tell you don’t have any good ideas right now!" Yang Bo mimicked the youth’s previous tone and laughed out loud.
Seeing this, the other pirates felt even more admiration for their Boss!
"Enough talk. I’m here to negotiate terms with you. If we come to a good agreement, the hostages on the Baisha Transport Ship will be perfectly fine. If not, we’ll kill them all!" Yang Bo stated nonchalantly.
"Speak!"
"First, call over all the other citizens from March Star and wherever else. I want them to act as witnesses between you and me. I trust you wouldn’t murder dozens of citizens over there just to silence them!" Yang Bo said coolly.
Although Yang Bo hadn’t come up with any brilliant strategies, he had watched plenty of movies and TV shows. Moral blackmail—who didn’t know how to do that?
The youth on the other side gritted his teeth inwardly. If he had known this Pirate Leader was so shameless, he would have relocated those citizens somewhere else earlier. As for these pirates, they didn’t matter!
"First of all, my pirate subordinates have always just followed my orders. All the past murders and robberies were commands issued by me, their Boss. Here and now, in front of all these citizens, I plead guilty!" Yang Bo declared right off the bat.
Hearing this, the several pirates present trembled with excitement. With those words from their Boss, even if they went to court and ended up in prison, it wouldn’t be for long. Being an accomplice was entirely different.
"I want you to use your identity as a Sheriff to guarantee that we will all receive a fair trial!" Yang Bo emotionally blackmailed him again. Though he knew the other party was currently itching to kill him, there was nothing the youth could do about it—he was a Sheriff!
"I guarantee it!" The youth hadn’t expected his surefire winning situation to be hijacked by the other party’s blackmail. Seething inwardly, he vowed to find an opportunity to kill this guy. When it came to the law, who was more proficient than himself? Sometimes, dead men couldn’t testify!
