Chapter 54: The Mastermind Behind the Scenes
Chapter 54: Chapter 54: The Mastermind Behind the Scenes
Yang Bo looked at the guy on the floor. He searched him thoroughly and found a pile of items.
"How do I use these things? Does this mean I need a teacher?" Yang Bo noticed that the lock-picking tool the man had used was a small, highly precise mechanical device. He examined its structure carefully before putting it back.
He didn’t move the corpse. The guy was carrying quite a few things. Inside his gray clothes were various Potions—several different kinds, in fact. His Sound Wave Detection sensed Energy Fluctuations from within them.
Five hours passed.
Yang Bo finally waited for the "cleaner" to arrive. It was the woman who had been Tracking him. She gently unlocked and pushed the door open, immediately taking out some sort of miniature device to carefully scan the area.
Only when the device showed no reaction did the woman step inside. She was tall, wearing a hoodie and a mask.
Yang Bo had anticipated this. The moment the man died, his organization would definitely know—his smartwatch had that capability.
The woman walked around with the device but found nothing unusual. The sound of running water from the bathroom prompted her to pull out a small bottle. She pushed the bathroom door open with one hand while holding the bottle in the other.
Opening the door, she saw a man in the bathtub. He was just soaking there, with his clothes and other belongings discarded on the floor.
Yang Bo couldn’t see the woman’s facial expression, but her body language clearly screamed shock.
The woman first reported to her superiors. There were two of them on the line: one was a supervisor from the security department, and the other was a supervisor from a new drug tracking and supervision group.
The two supervisors started arguing.
"What kind of trash did your security department send? He died so quickly."
"This is all on your new drug supervision group. You didn’t give an early warning."
"I don’t think you should even be an Advanced supervisor anymore."
"Just who exactly has the guts to go against our company?"
"From the looks of it, this should be Anzhijie’s doing. Those hounds prowling the gray areas are best at this kind of work."
"Anzhijie... those bastards. They better not let me find any evidence, or else..."
"Heh, as if your security department dares to mess with Anzhijie? I bet your whole family could disappear without you even knowing how."
"Your new drug supervision group actually has the nerve to talk? The target definitely awakened a Superpower. Otherwise, Anzhijie wouldn’t have done this."
"Let’s put this aside for now. Dispose of the body first, then await further orders."
After listening to the two supervisors squabble, the woman began to dispose of the body.
Yang Bo watched from the sidelines. The woman first took out a very thin, gray bag and stuffed the man’s corpse and some of his belongings into it. Then, she took out two of those small Metal bottles, pressed a trigger on them, and tossed them into the bag.
After sealing the bag, the two Metal bottles inside quickly began to melt. Various items in the bag started to shatter, and even the corpse seemed to weather away rapidly.
In less than five minutes, a grown man and a bunch of items, including Metal, were reduced to powder.
The woman simply washed the powder down the bathtub drain.
"That is so fucking advanced," Yang Bo marveled inwardly as he watched the entire process. This was leaps and bounds ahead of anything he had seen on Earth. At the same time, he thought to himself that his caution had indeed been justified.
Yang Bo didn’t make a move against the woman. Right now, the enemy was in the light while he was in the dark. Furthermore, the other party had misunderstood and pinned the blame on Anzhijie, which was perfect. As for bringing trouble to his company, Yang Bo could only mentally express his apologies.
The woman then went over to Yang Bo’s apartment and removed the equipment the dead man had installed.
"So it’s this company—a Genetic Potion company." Only after the woman left did Yang Bo emerge from the basement. Upon returning home, he immediately checked the Alliance’s corporate rankings.
"It’s actually Four Seas Gene Potion Company, ranked ninth in the Alliance. These scumbags must have used the original owner of this body for Genetic Potion experiments, and I ended up reaping the benefits. I’ll remember this debt."
With this, Yang Bo finally figured out why he was being Tracked. He also deduced the reason for the original owner’s sudden death.
There was definitely something wrong with the Genetic Potion the original owner had injected.
"Tsk, tsk." In his previous life, Yang Bo had found it strange why people over in Mei didn’t trust the government with vaccines. But upon digging into it, good lord—those pharmaceutical companies were using Ordinary people as test subjects.
In truth, even though the Alliance operated under a Council system, every aspect of it was controlled by massive corporations.
"These guys want to get their hands on my biological samples to analyze in their lab. When should I mess with them?"
"An individual facing these mega-corporations is truly powerless. I still need to improve my own strength." Yang Bo carefully researched the company and found that they were far too powerful for him to make a move right now.
The main issue was that Yang Bo’s understanding of this world’s Power system was incomplete. Limited by his status as an ordinary resident, the information he had previously received was heavily stratified.
Even though he now possessed a Superpower, he hadn’t ventured into the core areas of those major corporations. Invisibility seemed incredibly strong right now, but the core departments of these big companies were undoubtedly heavily guarded.
"I wonder if Anzhijie provides training in this area? Like infiltrating someone else’s lab and stealing experimental data?
"A company that does dirty work should probably cover that..."
A lot ran through his mind. When it came to killing, Yang Bo felt he was quite cold-blooded. He didn’t feel much of anything; in fact, he felt a slight thrill. He wasn’t sure if it was because the person was an enemy, or if his previous life had just been too suffocating.
"The guy I killed this time gave me Fighting skills. He definitely had a Superpower, but I didn’t acquire it. This means there’s a high chance it conflicts with my current Superpowers, or perhaps with me as an individual.
"Different materials used in Genetic Potions lead to genetic differences in each individual. I wonder what kind of Genetic Potion that company used on me? What raw materials was it made of?"
Yang Bo thought a lot but found himself utterly incapable of dealing with these giant pharmaceutical companies. It felt somewhat similar to the powerlessness he experienced in his past life. Just how much influence did these massive corporations have in politics? And how many enforcers and Assassins did they secretly employ?
"Oh right, if I leave this planet, what about the Mecha game?" As Yang Bo prepared to log into the game, temporarily pushing thoughts of this powerful enemy aside—since overthinking only made him feel more stifled—a question suddenly occurred to him.
He looked into it carefully and found that game data could be transferred. The user simply had to set a lock-and-transfer password, and upon arriving at a new location, entering the password would suffice. It was quite simple.
"These damn haters." Yang Bo saw himself on the forums again. It was a clip of him piloting his Mecha, carrying a massive load of Mecha Weapons. People were even mocking him, telling him to go scavenge for junk somewhere.
Furthermore, bounties had been placed on his head by several animal protection organizations. They cursed him, calling him a pervert, a cowardly loser in reality, and a piece of trash seeking validation in a game.
"Scumbags," Yang Bo muttered, entering the game in a terrible mood.
"I can’t mess with Mutants. The abilities they give are complete garbage." Yang Bo firmly decided to avoid Mutants. What was the point of Mecha Maintenance? It wasn’t even as strong as the ability he got from a rat. Besides, Mutants were way too dangerous.
"Sound Wave Control." Yang Bo decided to focus primarily on grinding Sound Wave Control. In a high-tech real world, utility abilities were much more practical than head-on combat skills.
Yang Bo decided to head back to the cave with all the bats from last time. What he didn’t know was that shortly after he walked out of the base, the Tiger-faced King received the news. Subsequently, certain individuals who wanted to get their hands on the Tiger-faced King’s Energy Stone Mine also received the news.
