Chapter 37: Exposed!
Chapter 37: Chapter 37: Exposed!
However, when Yang Bo returned home and tremblingly looked at the item in his hands, he could truly feel the terrifying gap in Energy compared to the Energy Stones he had bought before.
"Damn it," he cursed, feeling his hands and feet shaking.
He recharged himself with electricity to settle his nerves, forcing himself to calm down.
"It seems the other party is a very ancient organization," Yang Bo concluded, judging by how old the painting was.
A headache soon followed as he continued pondering. "These guys have hostile intentions. I have to be on guard since they’re targeting me. But my predecessor was just an ordinary resident. How did he end up offending these people?
"Are they Assassins?
"Could it be the Genetic Potion company behind all this? Is it related to the sudden death of the original owner of this body? Maybe an entire batch of test subjects died, and I’m the only one who survived?" Yang Bo’s mind raced. Making bold assumptions, many things suddenly began to make perfect sense.
Taking a deep breath, Yang Bo opened the network to see if anything had happened at the Dome Concert today.
Sure enough, there was an incident. The Dimensional Modification Company’s exhibition hall had suspended its display for the day. Rumor had it that a minor issue had occurred, and the exhibition would resume tomorrow.
What Yang Bo didn’t know was that the Dimension Company’s executives were currently jumping with rage. The Space Button had been stolen. The device was swiped from the largest hotel right from under the noses of several bodyguards from a formidable security firm.
Neither the supervisor in charge of safeguarding the button nor the bodyguards remembered what had happened.
The company’s executives were currently at the police station, alongside the hotel’s executives. For such an incident to happen at the grandest hotel would mean massive trouble if the news ever leaked.
"How do you expect us to investigate this case?
"We aren’t allowed inside the hotel, and you don’t have surveillance footage either. Are we just supposed to look at the exterior public area cameras?" An Advanced Police Chief already knew how to handle a case like this the moment he heard about it. A super hotel like that heavily prioritized privacy, so they definitely wouldn’t install cameras inside. Otherwise, who would stay there?
Furthermore, the Advanced Police Chief had no desire to inspect such a place. What if he bumped into his superior inside? AHEM... his career would be completely ruined.
"We can schedule an appointment," the hotel executive said through gritted teeth.
"What’s the use? Everyone over there is a resident; who’s going to remember anyone? Tens of thousands of people have been coming and going every day lately," the Advanced Police Chief countered, actively shifting the blame. It wasn’t that they didn’t want to investigate; it was just too difficult.
The Advanced Police Chief couldn’t help but entertain a rather dark thought. The Dimension Company had stolen the spotlight this time. Perhaps some Mecha companies were dissatisfied and sent people to make a move. Peers were natural enemies; there was nothing they wouldn’t do.
The Dimension Company executives looked extremely grim. "This Space Button and the Mecha are one entity, costing over ten billion to build. If your hotel doesn’t provide a reasonable explanation, we will make this public."
"Is there really no way to just replace the Space Button?" the hotel executive felt his blood run cold at those words and couldn’t help but ask.
"No. Simply put, the two energy frequencies are identical. I’m sure you know just how expensive Energy Metal is." The Dimension Company executive was exaggerating the cost a bit, but given the circumstances and the fact that the opposing party was a famous Alliance conglomerate, it was expected.
"That’s impossible. Besides, you don’t even have proof that it was stolen in our hotel," the hotel executive retorted immediately.
"You..." The Dimension Company executive instantly jumped to his feet, outraged by the sheer audacity.
"Our company isn’t afraid of a lawsuit," the hotel executive continued. "Even if we go to court, we’d only bear a third of the blame. Yes, our hotel provides item storage services.
"Second, the security firm you hired also bears responsibility.
"Third, if you can’t produce evidence, we can sue you for false accusation."
The Dimension Company executive stood tall and declared with a cold sneer, "In that case, there’s no need to talk. I’ll see you in court.
"Don’t forget, the testimonies of the security firm’s personnel are also valid."
Taking a deep breath, the hotel executive finally relented. "I need to ask for instructions from my superiors."
"Please do." The Dimension Company executive breathed a sigh of relief as well. If this matter leaked out, their company’s reputation would be ruined.
People would inevitably think, "What? Your Space Button was stolen? Doesn’t that mean if I buy it, it might get stolen too?"
The real reason the hotel executive had to seek instructions was that the security firm’s background was anything but simple. As one of the top security companies in the Alliance, they were absolutely not to be trifled with. If it went to court, the outcome would be unpredictable. The security firm certainly wouldn’t want to carry the blame for poor security. So, who would be the scapegoat?
It couldn’t be the employer, the Dimension Company. If something goes wrong and you blame the employer, it would be like a chef blaming the customer’s palate for a bad meal, or a director blaming the audience’s poor taste for a terrible movie.
How could that be? So, whose fault would it be? The hotel’s, of course.
After browsing the network, Yang Bo returned to studying the Space Button and the pure Energy Stone embedded in it.
"I wonder if I can absorb this Energy Stone?" Yang Bo muttered to himself. This single Energy Stone contained at least a billion kilowatt-hours of electricity. If he could absorb it, he wouldn’t need to carry batteries when going out in the future; carrying this thing would be enough.
Gently stroking the Energy Stone on the Space Button, he felt the terrifying Power within it. An urge struck him, and he initiated the absorption.
"It works. It seems I need to buy Energy Stones as backups, even if they are of lower quality." Feeling the surging Energy within his body, Yang Bo was ecstatic. This way, he wouldn’t have to worry about lugging batteries around anymore.
Feeling the powerful Energy in his body, Yang Bo was utterly delighted. The Energy Stone had been crafted into an accessory. Because they were so expensive, Energy Stones came in both natural and artificial varieties. Solidifying Energy and forming it into a stable structure came at a massive cost. Of course, large Energy Stones were strategic materials, serving as essential power sources for Warships.
Just as Yang Bo was basking in his joy, he received a message from his company.
"Settling the payment?" Yang Bo muttered in confusion. "Why are they settling the payment now?"
After a quick call with Liu Zhijie, Yang Bo learned that the client had breached the contract. They needed to sign an agreement and receive the penalty fee; otherwise, there would be trouble later.
Arriving at the exhibition hall, Yang Bo felt a sense of strangeness before he even got close. It was as if he could sense the Blade Mecha, as though there was some inexplicable connection between it and himself.
"I apologize, but the Dimension Company’s exhibition hall is closed, and services here have been suspended," a supervisor from the Dome Entertainment City announced, pulling out a contract.
Liu Zhijie was also present and asked curiously, "What happened to the Dimension Company?"
"We don’t know either. They simply notified us to close the hall," the supervisor replied.
Yang Bo’s mind churned. "Did the Dimension Company collude with those people, or was the Space Button actually stolen?"
Liu Zhijie had only asked in passing. After the three of them signed the contract, Liu Zhijie invited Yang Bo, "Let me buy you a drink, and we can discuss your career plans while we’re at it."
Yang Bo was just about to decline when suddenly, the Mecha inside the Dimension Company’s exhibition hall moved. Many people witnessed the scene.
The blue Mecha instantly smashed through the glass of the exhibition hall. Moments later, several figures dashed out from the distant crowd. These people had golden hair and wore archaic clothing.
"Red Earl!" Liu Zhijie blurted out as he saw their flowing golden hair and ancient attire.
