Chapter 265: You Have a Partner, Yet You’re Still Involved with Brother Bai
Chapter 265: Chapter 265: You Have a Partner, Yet You’re Still Involved with Brother Bai
Hearing this, the tenderness in Si Jin’s eyes deepened. He tightened his grip on Yun Sheng’s hand, gently squeezing her palm with his fingertips.
Beside them, Lin Yueyao reacted to Yun Sheng’s words as if she had been struck by lightning. She sprang up from her chair, her voice sharp and thick with disbelief as she interrogated her. "You’re together with him? Then why are you still so close to Brother Bai?!"
Although in the interstellar era, a guide could match with multiple Sentinels, she believed that a powerful SSS-level Sentinel like Bai Ye was the only one that truly mattered. It would only make sense to secure a relationship with Bai Ye first before getting involved with other Sentinels. Who would prioritize such an unremarkable guy?
Lin Yueyao speculated inwardly. Was Yun Sheng merely using Lin Mo as a stepping stone, waiting for the fallout of the broken engagement to blow over before turning back to Bai Ye? Or was this all premeditated? Perhaps Yun Sheng was deliberately stringing Bai Ye along while keeping Lin Mo on the hook, ensuring she had a foolproof backup plan no matter what happened.
Regardless of the truth, the mere thought of it infuriated Lin Yueyao!
Seeing Lin Yueyao’s aggressive posture, the softness in Yun Sheng’s eyes vanished instantly. Her tone turned frigid as she snapped back without hesitation.
"Sister Yue Yao, why are you spouting nonsense again? General Bai already explained it to you. We were waiting for the test results at the research institute last night, which took up too much time, so the Tower arranged accommodation for us.
"When we heard about Lin Hao’s accident this morning, General Bai merely dropped me off at the hospital since it was on his way. You can’t just let your imagination run wild just because you saw us arrive together. Does it make you feel good to spout such rubbish right in front of Lin Mo?"
Seeing the tension between them skyrocket once more, Su Wan hurriedly intervened to smooth things over. "Yue Yao, stop talking nonsense! Ah Ye just gave Yun Sheng a ride to the hospital, it’s no big deal." Turning to Yun Sheng, her face was filled with apology. "Yun Sheng, Yue Yao is just too anxious right now. She spoke without thinking, please don’t take it to heart."
Rebuked by Su Wan, Lin Yueyao felt an even greater surge of grievance and resentment. Yet, she swallowed her anger and kept her mouth shut.
Noticing the genuine apology in Su Wan’s eyes, Yun Sheng’s expression softened. She shook her head slightly. "I’m fine, ma’am. I just hope Sister Yue Yao will watch her words in the future. She shouldn’t make up wild assumptions and slander others as she pleases, lest she stir up unnecessary trouble."
With that, she tilted her head slightly to look at Si Jin, who had been holding her hand the entire time. "Lin Mo, is it convenient for you to take me back? I’m a bit tired," she asked softly.
Without a second thought, Si Jin gladly nodded. "Of course." He then looked up at Su Wan, his demeanor remaining gentle and polite. "Mrs. Lin, I’ll take Yun Sheng home first. Also, although I am a doctor in the Pharmacy Department, I know quite a few doctors in the spiritual power department. If you need any help down the line, feel free to contact me anytime."
"Alright, sorry for the trouble, Mr. Lin. Stay safe on the road. Yun Sheng, get some good rest when you get back." Su Wan didn’t bring up the idea of Yun Sheng going back with them, likely wanting to avoid another clash between her and Lin Yueyao.
Yun Sheng gave a slight nod and said nothing more, letting Si Jin lead her by the hand toward the ward’s exit. Si Jin deliberately slowed his pace to match hers, treating her with meticulous care.
The ward door clicked shut, sealing the couple out of sight. The warmth on Su Wan’s face gradually faded. As she turned to Lin Yueyao, her expression darkened instantly.
"Yue Yao."
This call lacked any trace of her usual tenderness and doting; it carried only a heavy weight of disappointment.
Lin Yueyao stiffened. Meeting Su Wan’s gaze, her underlying resentment and malice were instantly replaced by a flash of panic. She subconsciously gripped the hem of her clothes, her voice weakening. "Mom..."
"Yue Yao, look at how you’re behaving today! Making a scene in the ward with no regard for the time or place, completely ignoring what’s important. You fabricated baseless accusations and slandered Yun Sheng. Do you have any idea how out of line you were just now?"
"I didn’t slander her!" Lin Yueyao retorted reflexively, her voice choked with grievance as tears welled up in her eyes again. "Mom, I’m telling the truth. She really is too close to Brother Bai. She’s already with this Lin Mo, yet she’s still stringing Brother Bai along. She’s doing it on purpose! It’s not fair! How could Brother Bai be so heartless, breaking off our engagement just like that!"
"Does your unfairness give you the right to drag others through the mud?" Su Wan’s tone suddenly grew harsher, her eyes filled with furious disappointment. "Matters of the heart can never be forced! Ah Ye’s heart isn’t with you. That is a fact. No matter how much of a tantrum you throw, you won’t change a thing. You’ll only make a laughingstock of yourself!"
Just like before—she truly hadn’t expected Lin Yueyao to do something as disgraceful as throwing herself directly at Bai Ye.
"A laughingstock? If Brother Bai hadn’t broken off the engagement, how would I have become a joke? If it wasn’t for Yun Sheng... if she hadn’t shown up, Brother Bai would have married me, and I wouldn’t be in this miserable state! Mom, you’re just biased toward her! Ever since you found her, you stopped caring about me!"
"I’m biased toward her?" A tinge of sorrow flashed through Su Wan’s eyes. "I’ve loved you for over a decade, and I have never once mistreated you. But look at you! Look at what you’ve become—paranoid and spiteful, only resorting to these childish tricks to make life difficult for others... But even so, have I not protected you?
"Being caught between you and Yun Sheng is hard enough for me. I don’t want to see you two sisters turn against each other, and I certainly don’t want to see you destroy yourself over a man who doesn’t love you. Yue Yao, wake up. Let Bai Ye go, and let yourself go, alright?"
Su Wan’s words were earnest and heavy, every syllable steeped in heartache and hope, yet Lin Yueyao refused to listen to a single word.
The obsession in her heart had long taken deep root. Bai Ye’s rejection and Yun Sheng’s happiness were like two thorns buried deep within her chest, making it impossible for her to let go. But she was also well aware that if she continued to argue with Su Wan, she might lose her mother’s protection and love altogether.
Left with no other choice, Lin Yueyao forced her resentment and venom down to the pit of her stomach. She lowered her head and wept silently, not saying another word.
Seeing her in this state, Su Wan’s anger was instantly replaced by a surging wave of heartache, and she swallowed back all her remaining reprimands. She gave a soft sigh, stepped up to Lin Yueyao, and leaned down to grasp her cold hands.
"Mom knows you’re hurting, but matters of the heart really can’t be forced. A forced romance will only end in tears. Bai Ye’s heart isn’t with you, and no matter how much you hold on, you won’t earn even a sliver of his affection. From now on, stop targeting Yun Sheng, and stop obsessing over Bai Ye... Once you’re feeling better, Mom will take the time to find you an even better partner, okay?"
Lin Yueyao remained silent, keeping her head buried as her shoulders trembled even more violently.
Watching her, Su Wan slowly reached out, gently pulling her into a warm embrace and patting her back. "There, there, stop crying. Mom is here with you. Mom will always be here for you..."

Out in the corridor, Yun Sheng was being led by Si Jin, walking slowly step by step.
As they neared the elevators, she suddenly turned her head to look at the man beside her. "Si Jin, what exactly happened with you at the hospital last night?" she asked softly. "Is there... is there some problem with your identity as Lin Mo?"
Si Jin paused his steps upon hearing this, giving her fingertips a reassuring squeeze. "No, it’s not an issue with the identity. There was a problem with the hospital’s internal system, which delayed things a bit, so the verification process went slower than usual. Don’t worry."
Yun Sheng pursed her lips. Meeting Si Jin’s gentle gaze, she still couldn’t shake the feeling that things weren’t that simple.
Besides, Xing Che had left last night for an investigation, and she still hadn’t received a single message from him. She had no idea what was going on.
