Chapter 3793: The Inheritance
Chapter 3793: The Inheritance
Shen Yaojia cried for several minutes, while Alex stood beside her without saying anything. He wasn’t able to.
All he could do was wait for her to speak again.
"Thank you," she said finally. "Thank you for telling me all of this. Thank you for healing my master, so he was no longer the monster I had made him out to be."
Alex nodded.
"I had always believed Godslayer to be a sword he had created that had ended up biting him back. That it was his Creation that had killed him," she said.
"It wasn’t," Alex said. "The story there... it’s much worse."
The woman paused for a second, turning toward him. "What is the story?" she asked.
Alex thought for a second and explained everything to her. He didn’t see any part that wasn’t relevant to the conversation, so he hid nothing. He told her about the Death God’s weapon, the remaining metal that he kept afterward, and how a Death sage had duped him into creating the weapon.
And then, how several gods had been involved in the final decision that led him to killing himself so that they couldn’t use the new sword to kill all the innocents.
In a way, Steelmind had been a martyr that no one had realized. He had sacrificed his life so others might live. And there weren’t enough people who knew that.
The tears that had stopped flowing from Shen Yaojia’s eyes started flowing once more. Except, these tears carried more than just sadness. This time, her eyes were blood-red with anger at learning the truth of her master’s death.
"How many are dead?" she asked.
"I believe nearly all of them are dead," Alex said. "Godslayer took care of most of them during his time as a menace in the Immortal worlds. But two people still survive."
"The Sword God is one of them?" she asked.
"Yes," Alex said.
"Senior Bladedance told me something about that. He’s apparently in hiding right now, isn’t he?" she asked.
Alex nodded. "He was a Sword Sage back when it happened, so he was indeed a part of it. Beyond that, there is another person. The main person responsible for all of this happening. The Death Sage who commissioned the weapon in the first place."
The Artifact God narrowed her eyes. "Do you know who?"
Alex shook his head. "I do not know. I have gathered some potential names, but it will take a while before I figure out which among them it was."
"Give me the names. I will help you too."
Alex was happy to have any help he could get, so he gave her all the names, of which only three actually mattered now.
Once that was done, the Artifact God finally stood from near the pond and walked back into the house. She called Alex inside.
Alex followed her and entered. Quickly, she pulled out an artifact that projected a golden barrier around the room.
"That should be enough to keep away any disturbances even if they arrive," she said. "Now then, let us get to the inheritance. Give it to me."
Alex nodded and sat next to her. He held her hand and closed his eyes, focusing on his memory of Godslayer, but going beyond it. Hidden between the folds of those memories was a spark that had always been there. The spark was the knowledge that Steelmind had gained, the one that had allowed him to create the Fire God’s crown using the Nine-Headed Phoenix’s remains.
It was the knowledge that allowed a person to use a Primordial’s corpse as an artifact ingredient.
Alex passed the knowledge onto her, copying it thoroughly without missing a single instance of it. He didn’t understand it well enough to give her his own version of it, so he had to make sure nothing was missing or broken.
It took what felt like hours for him to transfer it all to her. When he was done, he opened his eyes.
Shen Yaojia opened hers at the same time, and her eyes shined with the brightness of someone who had just learned something incredible.
"So this is it," she said with a soft voice. "This is the inheritance that Master always told me he would give me when I was ready."
Alex felt unnaturally tired after doing what he had just done. He didn’t think he had fought any Intent to copy the inheritance, but even without it, it had taken a lot out of him.
She looked toward him. "Are you okay?"
"Yes," Alex said with a nod. "I’ll be fine."
The woman took a moment to go through the inheritance herself while Alex breathed in and out, letting his mental fatigue pass by.
After a while, she opened her eyes again and gave a nod. "It’s a good set of information and techniques. Sadly, it isn’t of much use unless we can get the Moon Rabbit’s corpse that I keep hearing about."
"Do you think you have the cultivation base required to use those techniques?" Alex asked. He could sense that her cultivation base was strong, but it was concealed through her artifacts, making it hard for him to determine what it exactly was.
The woman nodded. "I am more or less certain I can do it," she said. "It is difficult, but I have confidence I will be successful once I’ve practiced the technique on simple materials first. Although, that won’t really matter since the issue lies with the supply."
Alex narrowed his eyes. "What if I could provide said supply?"
The woman turned to him, her eyes narrowed with a glint. "You can provide part of a Primordial Beast’s corpse?" she asked.
"Perhaps," Alex said.
"Can you give it to me right now?" she asked. "I will use it to make something for you instead of taking it for myself. I only wish to make something with it."
"I understand," Alex said. "But before that, I have another request for you. If you hear me out, I can do as you say."
