Chapter 501 - 510: It’s All Calculations
Chapter 501: Chapter 510: It’s All Calculations
"Who’s there?"
He roared, the hairs on his body standing on end.
’There’s someone else here?!’
Thinking of the people who had just died so suddenly and bizarrely, his gaze turned cold. ’It might have been this person, hiding in the shadows.’
He didn’t know if they were friend or foe.
But to be able to kill so many people in an instant... their strength sent a chill down his spine.
He looked toward the large tree and saw a figure step out from behind it, a machine gun in her hands.
Felix Lawrence, who had been tense all over, let out a sharp breath of relief when he saw the person appear. "Miss Sterling—"
Although the woman before him looked unfamiliar, he had seen her before. He knew this was Miss Sterling in disguise.
’So, Miss Sterling was the one who killed these people just now?’
Though many questions still lingered in his mind, knowing it was Stella Sterling who had arrived, Felix Lawrence felt his heart settle with profound relief.
At least it was a friend who had come, not an enemy.
And thinking back on the situation, Miss Sterling had killed these people to help him. A wave of gratitude washed over him.
But while Felix Lawrence had breathed a sigh of relief, the men at his side didn’t share his composure.
One group had suddenly appeared and surrounded them, and then another person had shown up and wiped that entire group out.
This woman’s skill was simply beyond their imagination.
They looked at the dark-skinned woman who had appeared so abruptly. She seemed familiar, and after a moment of thought, they recalled seeing her not long ago. She seemed to be with the Three Tigers Corps.
It looked like she and Lawrence knew each other.
Even so, they didn’t let down their guard.
After all, the scene before them was too strange. They weren’t on friendly terms with this woman, and now she had appeared before them with a gun right after a slaughter. They couldn’t help but be suspicious of her intentions.
However, when they heard Lawrence call this person "Miss Sterling," they exchanged confused glances.
’Miss Sterling?’
They knew a Miss Sterling, too, but the one they knew looked completely different from the woman standing before them.
Felix Lawrence quickly noticed the tension in his men and immediately reassured them, "Don’t be nervous. She’s one of us. A very good friend of mine. She’s here to help."
Unable to reveal Stella Sterling’s true identity, this was all Felix Lawrence could say.
Hearing Felix Lawrence’s words, his brothers did relax a bit, but a sense of worry remained.
’This is the apocalypse. Who knows if she’s changed?’
Still, thinking back on what just happened, the woman had indeed taken care of the people who were trying to rob them. She had definitely helped them.
And she wasn’t making a move against them now; she didn’t seem to bear them any ill will.
Just then, Felix Lawrence said to them, "You all wait here. I’m going to go have a word with her."
With that, he was already walking toward Stella Sterling.
"Lawrence—"
One of his brothers watched him with concern, wanting to tell him to be careful. But seeing Felix Lawrence walk over without any hesitation, it was clear how much Lawrence trusted that woman, so he swallowed the words that had been on the tip of his tongue.
"Miss Sterling, what’s going on?"
Felix Lawrence asked, looking at Stella Sterling in surprise.
He could easily guess that the group who had appeared out of nowhere had targeted him and planned to make a move.
But how did Miss Sterling end up here? When had she started following them?
Stella Sterling gave Felix Lawrence a simple explanation. "I noticed Ronan Rhodes looking at you strangely earlier. I got worried, so I came."
As for how she had followed them, she didn’t say.
Felix Lawrence understood immediately. He looked at Stella Sterling gratefully. "So that’s what happened. Thanks to you, Miss Sterling. If it weren’t for you, we would’ve been in real trouble today!"
They had so many people, while he had only brought a few of his brothers. If they had really clashed, his side wouldn’t have had the advantage.
He hadn’t expected that Ronan Rhodes and his men, who had seemingly accepted splitting the supplies, were not actually content with the arrangement.
They didn’t dare go after the Three Tigers Corps, nor did they dare to do anything to Mutt and his group, so they set their sights on him instead.
’They must think I’m an easy target.’
But as he looked at the more than thirty bodies on the ground, a smirk flashed in his eyes.
This way, Ronan Rhodes had suffered a devastating loss. Losing over thirty men at once, their strength had probably been cut by seventy or eighty percent.
He looked at Stella Sterling with gratitude. If she hadn’t noticed something was off with Ronan Rhodes and his men, followed them in secret, and helped them at the critical moment, he was afraid his brothers would have fallen here today.
Stella Sterling smiled. "There’s no need for thanks. You’ve thanked me more than enough. But this time... you’re not a very good judge of character, are you?"
Seeing Felix Lawrence’s confused look, Stella Sterling shared her own discoveries and analyzed her suspicions for him.
Of course, she didn’t know if Felix Lawrence would believe her. After all, to him, she was a friend, but Mutt was also a friend. He might not necessarily believe what she was saying.
After hearing her words, Felix Lawrence was overcome with a strange fury—but it wasn’t directed at her.
His face darkened. "Fine. Just fine, that Mutt. To think I trusted him so much. He said one word, and I brought my men to help him without a second thought. And it turns out he wanted me dead. I told him before that I didn’t help much, that a small token would be enough. He was the one who insisted on giving me so much, only to pull a stunt like this behind my back."
Stella Sterling was not surprised. "By doing this, he makes you remember his kindness on the surface, makes you feel grateful to him. Then, in the shadows, he can use this method to take back what he gave you."
"If he succeeded, his reputation for being righteous would be intact, and he wouldn’t have lost any supplies. If he failed, it wouldn’t matter much to him either. On the surface, the ones who made the move were Ronan Rhodes’s men. You wouldn’t know the truth and would still be grateful to him, still treat him as a brother. All I can say is, it’s a clever scheme."
Felix Lawrence understood this point easily. And because he understood, his anger burned even hotter. He had truly considered Mutt a friend. That’s why when Mutt contacted him, he had brought his men to help without a moment’s hesitation.
But he never expected that all he would get in return was a web of deceit.
