Chapter 454: Chapter 227: Promotion to Level 7 Warrior, Memories Carried by a Hamburger
"Are you sure there are no problems with the mission information?"
In response to the attendant’s question, Lin Mo nodded. "No problems. Please register it for me."
"Of course. Please wait a moment..."
Anyone who worked at the Fajade City Adventurer’s Association was bound to be competent, and true to form, the woman finished the registration in no time.
"Alright, the mission information has been entered. Please return to this counter to report its completion when you’re done."
Lin Mo nodded and left with a wave.
The group arrived at the city gate, but instead of leaving the city directly, they headed straight for a carriage storage and maintenance shop nearby.
The distance between Fajade City and the Forest of Serenity was considerable, about thirty to forty kilometers. Walking there would be a waste of time. Besides, there was a main road leading to the forest, so they could easily take a carriage.
"Planning on heading to the Forest of Serenity?"
The shop’s clerk asked, noticing the group’s attire.
"We are. Why do you ask?"
The clerk looked like he had something to say. Lin Mo wouldn’t dismiss him just because he was an Ordinary person. After all, the clerk was a Fajade City native who worked at the carriage depot. A job like that, similar to a tavern hand’s, meant he was well-informed and likely to overhear things others wouldn’t.
"I just wanted to give you a heads-up. Our shop has a branch out that way. If you follow the main road to the end and head west, you’ll see a waystation. You can leave any carriage you’ve checked in with us there for free. Someone will be there to look after it."
"I see."
Lin Mo nodded. ’In that case,’ he thought, ’the monthly fee of 3 Gold Coins is well worth it.’
"Also..."
The clerk continued, shooting Lin Mo a meaningful glance.
Lin Mo immediately took the hint and tossed a Silver Coin to him.
The clerk caught the Silver Coin, his face breaking into a wide grin. "Also, I heard that just yesterday, fighting broke out between the Demons in Zone 10 and Zone 11. They’re fighting over the buffer zone between their territories, so things are a little unstable in those areas right now. If you have a mission in either zone, please be extra careful. Of course, it’s not all bad—you might be able to pick up some easy loot... Also, the Demons in Zone 17, Zone 19, and Zone 24 have overpopulated this year. Resources in their territories are extremely scarce, and now that it’s turning to autumn, they all need to hoard food for the winter. This has forced fierce competition to break out among their own kind. Some of the weaker ones have been pushed into the buffer zones or even into other Demons’ territories, which in turn has triggered even more conflicts..."
"Got it."
Lin Mo nodded and tossed him another Silver Coin.
The clerk’s eyes lit up. "Thank you, Boss! May good fortune come to a good man like you!"
Lin Mo led the others onto the carriage, and they set off toward the Forest of Serenity.
As they traveled, Lin Mo mulled over the information he’d just received.
’His hunch had been right,’ he thought. ’These workers really are well-informed. They already knew about something that had just happened yesterday.’
None of this was unexpected to Lin Mo. In a place like the Forest of Serenity, teeming with Demons, relatively stable territories might form after long periods of struggle, but that didn’t mean they could coexist peacefully. Conflict was inevitable and would never truly cease.
And Zone 11, which the clerk had just mentioned, was the exact location for the "Kill the Petrifying Lizard" mission Lin Mo had accepted.
Unlike the other zones, the conflict between Zone 10 and Zone 11 had only just started yesterday. That’s why the Lion Adventurer Group’s analysts didn’t know about it when they helped him prepare his list of missions, and hadn’t excluded tasks in those two zones.
For instance, they hadn’t included any missions from Zone 17, 19, or 24 on his list.
Although, just as the clerk had said, such contested areas could offer opportunities for easy pickings, they were ultimately unstable. For a newcomer to Fajade City, a risky, unstable mission was certainly less appealing than a safer one.
Of course, Lin Mo had no intention of giving up. He’d already accepted the mission, and it would be a hassle to go back and pick a new one now.
Besides, the missions he had chosen were all well below his current skill level. At worst, even if they ran into something unexpected, like a giant Petrifying Lizard, he and Shefilya were more than capable of handling it.
The carriage traveled swiftly, and before long, they reached the end of the main road.
They turned at the end of the road and headed west. Sure enough, it wasn’t long before they saw the waystation the clerk had mentioned.
Upon arriving at the waystation, Lin Mo presented the contract he had signed at the shop in the main city and checked the carriage in for free.
Now, the real adventure was about to begin.
Lin Mo took out the map he had purchased yesterday. It had cost him a full 5 Silver Coins and was the most detailed, accurate, and comprehensive map of the Forest of Serenity currently available.
It had reportedly been revised and updated less than a week ago.
It was undoubtedly of much higher quality than the older maps.
After all, the Demon zones in the forest weren’t set in stone; they could shift at any time depending on the growth or decline of a population, or the outcome of a conflict.
Following the route on the map, Lin Mo led the others toward Zone 8.
