Chapter 387: Chapter 347: In the Name of a Spouse

Just then, she received messages from Andrew and Cyril.

Gu Ning opened Andrew’s message first:

"I heard you were sick. Are you feeling any better?"

Gu Ning replied, "Much better, thank you for your concern."

Andrew immediately messaged back, "Vine and Leo will be finishing up their mission in Zone 15 soon."

Gu Ning didn’t understand what Andrew meant at first. She was almost at Zone 5, so logically, Wolf Team shouldn’t need to escort her anymore.

’Thinking it over, the team escorting her had been arranged by Admiral Andrew. Alex was his subordinate now, and Meira had said she knew him too. Plus, he had to be notified about her official appointment. That means Andrew must be fully aware of everything that’s happened recently.’

’So, was he saying he would have Wolf Team and Dog Team continue to escort her?’

With that thought, Gu Ning replied:

"Okay, thank you."

"As soon as I’ve recovered, I’ll get right back to my duties. Please don’t worry. (salute)"

Andrew took a sip of his cold tea. When he saw the little reporter’s message with a saluting puppy emoji, a resigned smile touched his lips.

"No rush."

"Your personal information has been updated. Have you looked at it?"

Seeing Andrew’s message, Gu Ning was now certain he was involved with her new identity. She replied:

"I have. Thank you for your help."

Andrew read the little reporter’s message and took another sip of his cold tea.

"You’ve seen it? I haven’t received confirmation from the family representative on my end. Is there something you’re still considering or hesitating about?"

’Confirmation from the family representative?’

Gu Ning froze for a second, then immediately pulled up her personal information to check.

As she searched for the term ’representative’ in the dense columns of her personal information, Andrew sent another message:

"It’s after the family information section."

Gu Ning swiped a few times until she reached the family information section. After several lines of notes and prompts, she saw a red-bordered box: [Special Family Representative: Andrew].

"Found it!"

After replying to Andrew, Gu Ning tapped on the ’representative’ section in her profile:

"[Do you agree to have Andrew as your family representative?]"

Gu Ning tapped [Yes].

After she did, two more options popped up on the screen:

"[Do you consent to Andrew becoming a member of your family?]"

"[Do you consent to Andrew becoming your spouse?]"

Gu Ning’s fingers clenched. She craned her neck, her eyes wide.

’Why did those two options pop up?!’

She tried to close the window, but after tapping the ’X’, another prompt appeared: "[You are an adult female. Your family representative can no longer be your guardian. It must be a designated family member or spouse on your household registry.]"

Gu Ning was speechless.

She opened her chat with Andrew and sent a message:

"Admiral Andrew, you’re just acting as my representative, right? Right?"

After half a minute, Andrew replied:

"Yes."

"It’s just a formality. The same as with Kaper."

’The same as with Kaper?’ Andrew’s reply eased Gu Ning’s mind a little, but... Kaper was already dead. Andrew was very much alive.

"Don’t worry. I guard Zone 19 day in and day out. Who knows, I could be gone any day now."

As if he knew what Gu Ning was thinking, Andrew sent that message.

His joking reply dispelled the vague, unnameable suspicion she felt toward him. She wrote back:

"You must be joking. You’re still so young. Never mind a Mutant Species—even a King Seed would be no match for you."

Gu Ning was half-flattering him and half-stating her genuine belief in his abilities.

’How could someone in his position be weak? Look at Meira and Alex. As strong as they were, they were still just captains. Andrew’s combat prowess had to be even greater.’

Reading the line, "You’re still so young," Andrew raised an eyebrow, his mood finally lifting.

"Admiral."

His diligent adjutant shattered the pleasant atmosphere.

"Regarding Miss Gu Ning’s work, do you think we need to make any adjustments?"

Cyril entered the office and placed a file in front of Andrew. "Now that she’s an official reporter for the Military Department, her salary and benefits have changed. I’m currently not sure which zone she’ll be staying in, and I can’t look up her household registry yet. As for benefits like Inhibitors, which require an in-person signature to collect..."

He trailed off as Andrew looked up at him.

"’That’s not urgent,’ Andrew said. ’There are still some issues to sort out with her household registry. For now, any uncollected benefits can be drawn from my own.’"

Cyril was confused. "You mean Miss Gu Ning will receive your benefits? But if she can’t even collect her own, how can she collect yours?"

Andrew glanced at the notification that had just appeared on his terminal: ’Gu Ning has approved your application to be her family representative...’ A slight smile tugged at his lips. He said to his adjutant, "She can."

Cyril hesitated. "In what capacity?"

Andrew’s gaze seemed to pierce right through him. In a soft, deliberate tone, he said, "As my spouse."

Cyril was speechless.
