Chapter 386 - 347: In the Name of a Spouse
Chapter 386: Chapter 347: In the Name of a Spouse
[If you don’t want to communicate with the officials, you can just leave that side of things to us.]
That was exactly what Gu Ning was thinking. However, she had Barto as her manager, so she didn’t need to hand everything over to them.
She replied: [Thanks, I’ll discuss it with my manager first.]
When Idelos saw her bring up her manager with such trusting words, he recalled the information Deviant had dug up about that fox. It only made him more certain about Gu Demiao Ning’s identity.
He didn’t press the matter, changing the subject instead:
[Have you seen the latest video I posted?]
[Sorry, I wanted to notify you, but I couldn’t get in touch with you or your primary manager. The work had to move forward, so we had to go ahead and launch the promotional video.]
[Everything was done according to the contract. The footage of you was all clipped from your previously released videos. The rest of the scenes used some of the material you sent me, as well as some I shot on my end. If you don’t like it, I can take the video down.]
Gu Ning: [I saw it. The post-production and editing are excellent (thumbs up).]
She had anticipated this might happen, so she had already done her own edit of the raw footage before sending it to Idelos. That way, even if he used it, nothing would go wrong.
But he had only used old footage of her, which improved her impression of him even more.
She had signed a contract with Idelos, and he had even paid her an advance of ten million Beast Coins. For him to still be so civil after so many days with no progress was truly remarkable.
[I came online specifically to discuss work with you,] Gu Ning sent.
[Okay,] Idelos replied. [Are you free to talk?]
Gu Ning: [It’s not a good time right now. Let’s stick to text for the moment.]
Idelos noted her use of the word "moment" again. He picked up a photograph from his desk, studying it as he typed his reply: [Fine, but the upcoming work is going to be complex. Communicating only via text will likely slow things down. I think we’d get better results if you communicated with us directly, rather than having your manager relay everything.]
’When it comes to speaking, Barto is still more efficient than I am,’ Gu Ning thought. ’I really need to practice my spoken language.’
[I’ll communicate with you directly when I’m able to,] she replied.
She was already preparing to make a public appearance, and getting past Idelos was the first hurdle. They were partners; she couldn’t possibly reveal herself without informing them first.
[Regarding the script we discussed last time, I have some new ideas. I’ve also shot a bit of footage I’d like to discuss with you.]
[What is it? I’m listening.] Seeing her take the initiative to talk about work, Idelos got up, poured himself a cup of coffee, and prepared to settle in for a chat.
[The theme of the video you just posted is a perfect match for my idea,] Gu Ning replied.
’And the footage I shot will be perfect for it.’
Idelos: [What’s the idea?]
Gu Ning didn’t reply immediately.
She had a bold idea.
She wasn’t a female from the Upper District, nor had she ever lived that kind of life. Furthermore, in this Beastman World where females were so scarce, she had no idea what kind of lives they led from birth. But there were surely very few like her. Judging by the reactions of male Beastmen like Alex, there were practically none at all.
Even though Barto and Meira had mentioned wild females, a wild beast was still a beast. A lone female would likely just become prey for them, to say nothing of a lone human.
Since Beastmen had never seen a wild female, and she was already on Sky Watch Point’s radar, she would just create a backstory for herself as one.
It would be based on her own life and real experiences. To this world, she *was* a wild female, belonging to no tribe.
Meira’s parting words had served as a reminder. From Alex to Andrew, to Windsor and Meira herself, they had all used their power and connections to help conceal her identity. But there was always someone more powerful. If her identity were ever exposed, she might drag them all down with her.
Andrew alone was enough to keep her on edge.
Given his status, that little written guarantee she’d signed with him probably wouldn’t be enough to truly restrain him if he decided to do something.
Besides, there were other Beastmen of his status, or even higher, who had their eyes on her and Barto’s group.
And then there were the Beastmen from Sky Watch Point...
Gu Ning took a deep breath and replied to Idelos:
[I’ll send you the proposal tomorrow. The new video will also be released tomorrow.]
Idelos:
[Okay.]
[I’ll be waiting.]
After finishing her chat with Idelos, Gu Ning scrolled through some videos for a while, then logged off the app to start preparing for her new release.
