Chapter 712: Private Tutor
Chapter 712: Chapter 712: Private Tutor
"You really don’t know what I’m talking about?" Carmen Lane’s gaze turned cold as she issued a warning. "Do you know the penalty for taking the fall for a murderer?"
Diana Young’s eyes darted around nervously. With her head lowered, she retorted, "Taking the fall? I didn’t do that."
"According to Article 310 of the Criminal Code," Shawn Cheney said with a serious expression, "the sentence is three to ten years in prison. If you two planned this in advance... it would be considered a joint offense, and you’d be sentenced as an accomplice."
Diana Young’s fingers tightened into fists, her brow furrowed. "I... I..."
Carmen Lane’s tone softened. "Diana Young, you’re still young. You can always earn more money. We’re asking you these questions now to give you a chance. If you confess honestly, your punishment can be reduced."
Diana Young bit her lip, her heart in turmoil.
After a moment, Carmen Lane spoke again. "Diana Young, did Holden Lee really force himself on you?"
Diana Young was in agony. After a moment’s hesitation, she took a deep breath and chose to confess. "Holden Lee didn’t rape me."
Carmen Lane’s eyes lit up, and she exchanged a glance with Shawn Cheney.
"Diana Young, please describe what really happened."
With her head down, Diana Young spoke slowly. "That afternoon, I had just finished streaming..."
Her account was basically identical to what Renee Jennings had learned from Little Sparrow.
Shawn Cheney twirled the pen in his hand. "Tell us about your relationship with Holden Lee."
Diana Young wiped away her tears and explained, "I really did meet Holden Lee when he was delivering food. Later, he stumbled upon my livestream and started tipping me. When he delivered food again, he told me what his user ID was..."
"Because he tipped so much, I knew who he was. To keep a good relationship with my fans, I would intentionally order an extra meal for him whenever he made a delivery."
"Sometimes... I would give him hints..."
When she finished, Shawn Cheney asked seriously, "Diana Young, are you certain that Harold Goodman killed Holden Lee in your apartment with a fruit knife?"
Diana Young nodded. "I’m certain."
Carmen Lane printed out her dictated statement and placed it in front of her. "Please confirm this is correct. If there are no issues, sign here."

「The next day.」
Renee Jennings and Sheryl Sawyer had breakfast at their hotel, then hailed a taxi to the police station.
Along the way, Renee Jennings heard the system’s notification.
[System 009: Congratulations on completing the Level 5 hidden mission: "Exonerate the Innocent." Reward granted: 4 million in Cash, Sugar Glider Dictionary.]
The moment they entered the police station, Carmen Lane ran up to them excitedly. "Harold Goodman confessed!"
Renee Jennings raised an eyebrow slightly and smiled. "That was fast. Does that mean our mission is complete?"
"Consultant Jennings, you’re really something else!"
"Without Consultant Jennings’s help, this case probably wouldn’t have been solved so quickly."
Others gathered around, chiming in with praise.
Shawn Cheney nodded in agreement. "Consultant Jennings’s contribution was indispensable."
Renee Jennings chuckled. "Not at all. It was just good luck."
Director Archer also walked over, his tone filled with emotion. "I really envy Director Lowell."
Renee Jennings turned to look at him and smiled. "Director Archer, is my mission successfully completed, then?"
"Yes." Director Archer nodded, a look of regret on his face. "Why couldn’t I have been the one to discover a talent like Consultant Jennings?"
’If only I could convince her to stay in Jaelara,’ he thought, ’I’d be smiling in my sleep.’
Just then, someone else from the Criminal Investigation Division spoke up. "Consultant Jennings, I have a new case. Would you be interested in taking a look?"
The speaker was a young woman around Carmen Lane’s age named Luna York, who had a short, chic, layered haircut.
Renee Jennings looked at her and asked with a smile, "Luna, what’s the case?"
Seeing her interest, Luna York’s eyes lit up, and her voice was filled with pleasant surprise. "Consultant Jennings, Officer Sawyer, let’s head to the conference room. I’ll tell you all about it."
"Alright." Renee Jennings nodded.
The group went into the conference room.
Luna York began, "The parents of a high school sophomore reported that their daughter was molested by her private tutor..."
She pushed the case file across the table to Renee Jennings and Sawyer.
"There were no cameras in the room and no physical evidence to corroborate either story. Both parties are sticking to their version of events."
Renee Jennings read through the file.
Rory Yves claimed that her tutor, Clarence Sawyer, would often put his hands inside her clothes and make sexually suggestive comments.
This time, she said, he went even further, putting his hand down the waistband of her pants and telling her he had brought condoms.
Rory Yves said she hadn’t told her parents before because she felt too embarrassed.
But this time she was truly frightened, so she screamed when he told her he had condoms.
Rory Yves’s mother heard the scream and rushed into the room to find Clarence Sawyer and Rory Yves on the bed, with several condom wrappers scattered nearby.
Mrs. Yves was horrified. She screamed for Mr. Yves, and then they called the police.
Clarence Sawyer denied The Yves Family’s accusations. He claimed he had never done anything inappropriate toward Rory Yves. He said that, in fact, she had been harassing him, and when he rejected her, she did this to get revenge.
"Clarence Sawyer is a college senior," Luna York said softly. "We went to his university to investigate and spoke with his roommate and classmates."
"His roommate and classmates all said he comes from a modest background. A lot of girls pursued him in college, but he was completely focused on his studies and part-time jobs, never getting involved in relationships."
"The young women at the university also had nothing but praise for his character."
"Apparently, he’s already been accepted into a graduate program," Luna York sighed, then continued, "Honestly, I personally don’t think someone like him would do something so irrational. It’s just not worth the risk."
Sheryl Sawyer nodded in agreement. "Exactly. If this gets out, all the hard work he’s put in so far would be for nothing."
Luna York added, "Also, Rory Yves’s mother insists that when she burst in, Clarence Sawyer’s hand was still inside her daughter’s pants. That part seems a little strange."
Renee Jennings spoke up as well. "If the story were true, wouldn’t Clarence Sawyer have pulled his hand back the instant Rory Yves screamed? Would he just wait for her mother to see?"
"Exactly." Luna York looked at her. "That’s the other point I found strange. Clarence Sawyer isn’t a fool."
Especially after learning the truth about the Holden Lee case, she had a growing feeling that something was off about this one, too.
"Were there any pets in the room at the time?" Renee Jennings asked.
"When we went to the Yves Family home, I noticed they had Sugar Gliders."
"Sugar Gliders?" Renee Jennings raised an eyebrow. "In that case, we can ask them."
’The reward I just got is already coming in handy.’
Hearing this, Luna York’s face broke into a wide smile. "Consultant Jennings, do you have time?"
Renee Jennings’s lips curled into a smile. "I do. Shall we head out now?"
"Yes! I’ll make the arrangements right away!" Luna York shot up from her seat, excited.
’The truth will come out soon!’
’I can’t wait to find out if my judgment was right or wrong...’
