The Villainess's Heartthrob Script: I Can Talk to Animals

Chapter 399: A Man Full of Lies

Chapter 399: Chapter 399: A Man Full of Lies

"Okay." UnsweetenedCoffee nodded. "My boyfriend and I are planning to get engaged at the end of the year. He said he used to have a car and a house, but he gave them both to his ex-girlfriend when they broke up."

Renee Jennings’s gaze sharpened, and she softly confirmed, "Your boyfriend told you he gave his house and car to his ex-girlfriend when they broke up?"

[I’m sorry, what? I don’t think I heard that right.]

[Your boyfriend is sure generous.]

[I’m not buying it... Was your boyfriend the one at fault? It probably wasn’t a simple breakup.]

UnsweetenedCoffee saw the bullet comments voicing her own thoughts and got excited. "Yes! That’s what I suspect too! But my boyfriend said I was overthinking it. He said the reason he gave her the house and car was that she had been with him through a difficult, painful time, and he did it out of gratitude."

"To be honest, I don’t really believe it either," Renee Jennings said with a smile. "What’s your boyfriend’s financial situation like?"

"Average, I guess." UnsweetenedCoffee frowned. "He’s not very generous. He has to think for a long time before buying anything even slightly expensive. He doesn’t seem like the type to give someone a house and a car, which is why I suspect he did something wrong..."

[It’s a cover-up, guaranteed. His ex must have some dirt on him~]

[I agree!!! Men are cunning; there’s no way he’d be that generous.]

[I bet your boyfriend did something outrageous to cause the breakup!]

Seeing the bullet comments, UnsweetenedCoffee’s frown deepened. "It seems like the other girls are thinking the same thing I am."

Renee was also quite curious. What could have happened that would make a man who wasn’t generous give away both a house and a car?

She said softly, "Where is Gus now? Let me talk to him."

"He’s on the balcony sunbathing." UnsweetenedCoffee turned her head and shouted toward the balcony, "Gus, come here!"

Renee asked, "The place you’re living in now—is it owned or rented?"

"Rented," UnsweetenedCoffee said helplessly. "The fact that we’ll have to keep renting after we get married, while he gave his house to his ex, is what’s bothering me."

"He gives away a house and car because ’she was with him through a tough time,’ but it’s not like my life with him now is all sunshine and roses."

UnsweetenedCoffee had been stewing over this for a long time. The more she thought about it, the more something felt off. She had discussed it with a friend, who also thought there was more to the story.

Her friend mentioned that her boyfriend happened to have a Golden Retriever and suggested she call into Renee Jennings’s stream to let Renee communicate with the dog.

Renee could understand UnsweetenedCoffee’s feelings. She said softly, "Don’t worry. I’ll ask Gus."

"Okay, thank you," UnsweetenedCoffee said gratefully.

Gus had already come in from the balcony. UnsweetenedCoffee held the phone screen up to his face. "Gus, do me a favor..."

After she finished talking to the Golden Retriever, UnsweetenedCoffee glanced at the bullet comments.

[Girl, if it turns out your boyfriend gave her the house and car because he did something wrong, are you still going to get engaged?]

[I have a feeling this engagement isn’t happening.]

UnsweetenedCoffee was conflicted. "It would probably depend on what he did wrong. If it’s something that crosses my line, then I probably won’t go through with the engagement."

Renee waited for her to finish before saying, "I’ll talk with Gus now."

The Golden Retriever, Gus, stared at Renee Jennings on the phone screen with his big, round eyes, looking innocent and confused. "You want to talk to me? But you can’t understand what I’m saying."

"Oh, but I can," Renee chuckled. "Gus, have you eaten?"

Gus nodded. "I’m full, but I could go for a snack."

Renee’s lips curved into a smile. "Alright, how about you answer a few questions for me, and in a little while, I’ll have the lady next to you give you a snack?"

"Okay!" Gus immediately agreed.

Renee asked another question. "UnsweetenedCoffee, what’s your boyfriend’s name?"

"His name is Hugh."

"Okay. Gus, do you know who Hugh is?"

Gus grinned and barked excitedly, "He’s Dad!"

"Good boy." There was a smile in Renee’s eyes. "So, did your dad Hugh have another girlfriend before?"

Gus, sly as can be, glanced over at UnsweetenedCoffee.

Seeing this, Renee raised an eyebrow. "Don’t worry, I won’t tell your dad’s current girlfriend."

"Really?" Gus was a little skeptical.

"Really."

Only then did Gus relax and say, "Yeah, yeah! Dad used to have another girlfriend named Crystal. But then Crystal didn’t want Dad anymore."

"Why?" Renee asked, confused. "Do you know the reason?"

Gus put on an expression that begged for praise. "I know! Am I awesome or what?"

"Gus is super awesome!" Renee said with a broad smile. "How do you know?"

Gus: "Because I heard Crystal and Dad arguing!"

"And what did you hear?"

"I heard Crystal say Dad was shameless, that ’this isn’t your house, so what right do your parents have to freeload here and not leave?’"

Renee didn’t quite get that. "What do you mean? Whose house were they living in?"

Gus: "Dad, and Dad’s mom and dad, were living in Crystal’s house! You know what? Crystal’s house was so comfy! Crystal even made me a really cool bed! I really miss that place!"

"Then what about your dad’s own house?" Renee asked, puzzled.

Gus: "It’s in his hometown!"

Renee felt like she was starting to understand.

’Hugh’s house is in his hometown. The house he was living in was Crystal’s, and he even brought his parents to live in her house. Crystal couldn’t accept that, so she broke up with him.’

She confirmed it with Gus one more time. "Is that what happened?"

When UnsweetenedCoffee and the audience heard Renee say that Hugh didn’t actually own a house, let alone give one to his ex-girlfriend, they were all stunned.

"Is... Is this real?"

[Whoa, I did not see that twist coming!]

[Claiming his ex’s house was his, and then on top of that, saying he gave it to her out of gratitude... I’m speechless...]

[A man full of lies!]

"But..." UnsweetenedCoffee said hesitantly, "I talked about this with the girlfriend of one of Hugh’s friends before. She kept saying she didn’t understand why Hugh would give his house and car to his ex."

She added, "We get along well. She even warned me before when some other girl added Hugh on WeChat, telling me to watch out. I don’t think she would team up with Hugh to hide this from me."

Gus learned to jump in with the answer this time. "I know, I know! Because Dad told all his friends that he bought the house and he bought the car, so that’s what everyone thinks. Only I, the clever Gus, know the truth!"

Renee: "..."

’Is that really something to be proud of?’

She relayed what Gus had said. UnsweetenedCoffee was silent after hearing it, but the bullet comments were scrolling by at lightning speed.

[The world is full of weirdos...]

[This guy is such a poser.]

[This is mind-blowing. How does he have the nerve? And his ex didn’t even expose him?]

[This plot sounds so familiar. It’s just like what happened to my cousin...]
