Chapter 348: Not Pouring Cold Water on the Four Little Kittens
Chapter 348: Chapter 348: Not Pouring Cold Water on the Four Little Kittens
Yvonne Morgan was trying to play the victim to make Vincent Morgan feel sorry for her.
The dim car fell silent. Vincent Morgan watched her, his gaze dark and conflicted, his lips pressed into a thin line. He didn’t say a word for a long time.
Yvonne Morgan didn’t receive the sympathetic, comforting words she’d been hoping for. She bit her lip, her heart filled with sorrow and resentment.
’Why isn’t Vincent talking?’
’Does he really think that about me...?’
The more Yvonne Morgan thought about it, the more resentful she became. But even when the car came to a stop, Vincent Morgan still hadn’t responded to her question.
She got out of the car, looking utterly crestfallen.
Vincent Morgan watched her walk away, and for a moment, she seemed like a stranger.
’Why would she say something like that? Calling herself an impostor?’
’His little sister... they’d been together for nearly twenty-four years. How did she end up like this?’

On Saturday, Renee Jennings selected ten online applicants as candidates to adopt the kittens.
She set the adoption event for the following afternoon at Blue Bay Park. Renee Jennings also prepared six small gifts for the applicants who wouldn’t get to adopt a kitten, so they wouldn’t have come all this way for nothing.
Sunday was bright and sunny, a perfect day.
After lunch, Michelle Fuller and Sylvia Brooks went to Eastgate Villa to meet up with Renee Jennings.
They brought cake and desserts, and after they all finished eating, they set off for Blue Bay Park with the four kittens and Blueberry in tow.
Renee Jennings hadn’t planned on bringing Blueberry, but the dog insisted it needed to screen the potential owners for the kittens to make sure they didn’t end up with bad people.
With the beautiful weather, the park was full of people camping.
Renee and her friends had brought a picnic blanket, and just as they spread it out, a girl in a white baseball cap approached them.
"Renee? Is that you?"
Renee turned to meet the girl’s excited gaze. She smiled, nodded, and extended a hand. "That’s me. And you are...?"
"I’m GoldRush." The girl quickly wiped her palm on her clothes before taking Renee’s hand. She stared, transfixed, at Renee’s face, practically drooling. "Renee, you’re even more beautiful in person!"
"You’re very cute, too," Renee said, her eyes crinkling in a smile. "And I love your username."
"Haha, don’t tell me you only picked me because you liked my name!" GoldRush joked.
Renee replied with a straight face, "That might have been a factor."
As they were chatting, a flamboyant young man came over. "Renee? Hi! I’m Peanut!"
Renee politely extended her hand. "Hi, Peanut."
"Oh my god, you smell amazing!" Peanut exclaimed, taking her hand with a look of pure delight.
Perhaps because of his flamboyant demeanor, the comment didn’t come across as creepy.
Peanut then turned to GoldRush with a dazzling smile. "Hey, girl! I’m Peanut. What’s your name?"
"Hi, I’m GoldRush."
"Then I’ll call you Goldie, sis."
"That’s fine."
All ten applicants had arrived early, and they came over one by one to introduce themselves.
The four little kittens sat on the picnic blanket, their wide, round eyes full of curiosity and excitement.
’We’re finally going to get owners!’
’Renee said these humans are different from that mean two-legger. I wonder if it’s true...’
Renee Jennings had the four kittens sit in a row and asked the ten applicants to stand in front of the kitten they were most interested in.
Four people chose the little tabby kitten.
Two people chose the orange cat, two chose the large tabby, and two chose the calico.
The little tabby blinked, overjoyed and in disbelief.
’Wow, so many humans like me!’
The orange cat looked at it. "See? I told you lots of people would like the little one."
"The little one is so cute, of course they would!" the large tabby added, a little proudly.
Listening to the kittens’ conversation, Renee Jennings smiled. "Actually, lots and lots of people like you. I just couldn’t have everyone come today."
"Oh, I see," the orange cat said, enlightened.
The calico cat sighed, its spirits low. "We won’t be able to see each other anymore. I’m actually going to miss you guys."
At this, the other two kittens suddenly grew melancholic. Only the little tabby, still very young, didn’t seem to have a strong reaction to their imminent separation.
In fact, it was looking forward to having a proper home and a life full of security.
"Blossom." Renee reached out to stroke the calico’s head. "You can tell me what you’re thinking," she said gently. "I’ll respect your decision."
Blossom was the temporary name Renee had given the calico.
At Renee’s words, a hesitant look crossed Blossom’s fuzzy little face. "I... I’m just worried I won’t get to see everyone again."
"I’ll miss you guys, too," the orange cat meowed glumly.
’This was something I didn’t think through.’
’It wasn’t that they were still traumatized by Linus Hollis’s abuse. They were all so eager when I asked if they wanted to find new owners.’
’Did they think they would all be adopted by the same person?’
’It’s my fault for not explaining things clearly.’
There probably weren’t many families who could adopt four kittens all at once.
After a moment of thought, Renee’s gaze swept over the four kittens. Her tone was earnest. "Think about it carefully. If you don’t want to be separated, then we won’t look for new owners. I’ll keep you."
Just then, Blueberry spoke up. "But you all need to think this through. Renee is very busy every day. She barely has any time to spend with us."
Renee glanced at the little dog, one eyebrow raised.
’Why do I get the feeling Blueberry has an ulterior motive here?’
Blueberry sensed her gaze and stared back defiantly. "What? Am I wrong?"
"No, you’re right," Renee nodded.
Blueberry then turned to the four kittens. "It’s fun when everyone’s together, but if it’s just one cat per owner, your owner will have a lot more time for you. They can spoil you like a baby."
Blueberry spoke from experience, and it was telling the truth.
Back when it was with that dumb woman, it had been worshiped like a king. Even when Mrs. Forrest took it home by mistake, it had been coddled and spoiled.
But things were different with Renee.
The little tabby’s eyes lit up. It raised a tiny paw. "I want that! I want to be spoiled like a baby by my owner!"
The other three kittens were also tempted.
"What if..." the orange cat began, looking at its friends. "What if we ask Renee to talk to our future owners about arranging playdates for us when they have time?"
The large tabby nodded. "I think that could work."
The calico agreed. "It’s doable."
Blueberry, however, thought it was unlikely. ’Humans are so busy. Can they really make time for that?’
It hesitated, but decided not to burst the four kittens’ bubble.
’If you want to be loved by an owner, you’ll inevitably have to give some things up.’
’Maybe once they get to their new homes and settle in, they’ll forget all about their old friends.’
Renee had, of course, considered the same things Blueberry was thinking about.
She reminded them gently, "Your future owners might agree to it now, but for all sorts of reasons, they might not be able to keep that promise later on."
After all, they’re all strangers. It’s unlikely they’d go out of their way to schedule meetups just for a kitten.
