Chapter 1094: Chapter 1094: Use Pegasus For The Time Being

"Wait a minute." Bai Xifeng stopped him with a raised hand.

"Yes?" Zhang Zhenyu looked over at her in confusion.

"You just need horses to pull the heavy carriage, right?" Bai Xifeng asked.

"Well, yes. At least two strong horses." Zhang Zhenyu explained. "Otherwise, a single ordinary horse will become exhausted far too quickly pulling a carriage of that size."

"Well, I think one is more than enough since it is not a normal horse." Bai Xifeng stated casually. "Let me go ask him first."

Bai Xifeng walked away, leaving a thoroughly baffled Zhang Zhenyu standing behind. He scratched his head, wondering what on earth she could possibly mean by "asking him."

He watched Bai Xifeng chat with her friends for a moment. Not long after, a blinding flash of spiritual light erupted, and a magnificently powerful beast suddenly appeared right beside her!

Zhang Zhenyu was startled, his heart skipping a beat. He recognised that legendary beast immediately! It was a Qianlima, the legendary, divine winged horse!

He had already noticed earlier that someone in Bai Xifeng’s group must have possessed a Qianlima as a contracted beast. However, it had never once crossed his mind that this magnificent Qianlima actually belonged to Bai Xifeng herself! After all, she had already summoned the terrifying Three-Headed Wolf, Cerberus!

He had never expected this young girl to be so unfathomably extraordinary that she could actually form soul contracts with multiple top-tier, mythical beasts simultaneously!

Bai Xifeng casually walked over, gently leading Pegasus by his halter toward Zhang Zhenyu.

"He can pull your carriage for now. After we arrive at the town later, you can buy new horses at the market." Bai Xifeng stated simply.

"Y-Yes, Young Lady Bai! Thank you!" Zhang Zhenyu nodded hastily, still in utter shock.

"You can put the carriage reins on him now." Bai Xifeng said.

"Someone come over right now and attach the reins to this noble Qianlima! Please, be extremely gentle!" Zhang Zhenyu ordered his remaining guards urgently.

He sternly reminded his men not to be forceful or disrespectful with the Qianlima, as it was definitely not an ordinary draft horse. One wrong move or accidental offence, and a person could easily be sent flying to their death by a single kick from a divine beast!

Because of his warning, Zhang Zhenyu’s men approached Pegasus with immense reverence, treading on eggshells and treating the magnificent creature with extreme gentleness.

Pegasus did not make things difficult for the nervous guards, knowing that his master, Bai Xifeng, cared about these people. Thus, he stood proudly and patiently, allowing them to carefully attach the wooden harness and leather reins to his body.

"Wow! So pretty! Mommy... Mommy, look! That horse is so beautiful! It even has massive wings! Can it fly in the sky?" Little Zhang Lingling exclaimed in pure delight as she popped her head out of the carriage window.

"My dear, that is definitely not an ordinary horse." Ma Ruoxi gently explained to her excited daughter, smiling softly. "That is a legendary Qianlima. It has the body of a horse, but it possesses divine wings. Of course it can fly!"

"Woah... Can I ask it to fly us into the clouds right now?" Zhang Lingling asked enthusiastically, her eyes sparkling.

"No, sweetie... It’s graciously pulling our carriage on the road for now." Ma Ruoxi chuckled softly.

"I see!" Zhang Lingling nodded in understanding, happily waving her little hand at the winged horse.

The journey resumed once more after their short break beside the stream. The carriage actually seemed to move noticeably faster and smoother than before, thanks to Pegasus effortlessly pulling it along without feeling any strain from the weight. After another two peaceful hours of travelling through the winding forest roads, they finally arrived at the small trading town they had mentioned earlier. It was already late afternoon by the time the settlement came into view, the setting sun casting long shadows across the dusty roads.

Since they had no desire to cause an unnecessary panic or intimidate the local townsfolk with high-rank spiritual creatures, Bai Xifeng and her friends dismounted from their contracted beasts a short distance away from the town gates, recalling them into their spiritual spaces before walking the remaining distance on foot. Only Pegasus remained tethered to Zhang Zhenyu’s carriage, quietly pulling it steadily toward the town entrance.

As was typical for border settlements, several stern guards were stationed right at the wooden town gates. When they saw the heavy carriage approaching alongside a sizeable group of well-dressed young people walking behind it, they immediately raised their spears and shouted for them to halt.

"Halt right there! Pay the entry tax first before you set foot into town." One of the guard captains barked, stepping forward with his hand resting on his sword hilt.

"How many taels of silver are required for a group of thirty-one people?" Zhang Zhenyu asked politely, stepping down from the carriage to handle the transaction himself.

The guards exchanged sly, subtle glances with one another for a brief second. Sensing that these travellers were wealthy outsiders unfamiliar with the local rates, they instantly realised they had stumbled upon a prime opportunity to line their own pockets with some easy extra money.

"Ten taels per person! Pay up, otherwise, get lost!" The head guard declared without blinking an eye.

Without questioning the ridiculously inflated fee, Zhang Zhenyu calmly produced the required bag of silver from his sleeve and handed it over to the guards without making a scene.

Bai Xifeng, standing a short distance behind him, immediately recognised the extortion scheme the corrupt guards were pulling. However, she chose not to expose or confront them over a few pieces of silver.
