The force behind the other party’s strike was clearly far greater than Pan Long’s. When the blade came slicing toward him, Li Jin immediately felt a powerful pressure bearing down. He frowned slightly and raised his shield to block.

With a loud clang, the blade slammed heavily into the shield, sending a shock through Li Jin’s arm that left half of it numb!

Mu Qingchen continued briefing Gu Jiao from the side. “That’s General Cheng of the State of Liang. Years ago, he participated in the campaign against the State of Yan and fought directly against the Xuanyuan Family. He’s one of the few who managed to last over a hundred moves against Xuanyuan Li. Li Jin doesn’t stand much chance against him.”

Li Jin was not yet thirty years old, a very young general, and between him and the veteran General Cheng was a gulf of at least twenty years of battlefield experience.

It was, honestly, a bit of an unfair match.

But Li Jin proved to be far more tenacious than anyone had imagined. Blow after blow rained down on his shield, and his arm was already turning dark purple from the repeated impacts, yet he showed not even the slightest hint of retreat or surrender.

At last, he seized an opening.

He suddenly thrust his spear toward General Cheng’s thigh with explosive force!

Within the ranks of the State of Liang’s army, a flash of cold light suddenly streaked through the air!

Gu Jiao’s gaze turned icy. In a swift motion, she grabbed the longbow from her saddle, nocked an arrow onto the bowstring, and loosed it in the direction of that glint of cold light without hesitation!

“Who?!”

General Cheng blocked Li Jin’s attack with a slash of his saber and turned sharply toward the side, only to see an arrow pinning a dagger firmly into the ground right next to the two of them!

The arrow had clearly been fired from the Black Wind Cavalry’s side, and as for the dagger… there was no need to ask.

General Cheng’s face darkened with rage as he barked a question toward his own formation, “Who did this?!”

Gu Jiao gripped her longbow and said coldly, “This commander had assumed it was to be a fair duel. Who would’ve thought you people from the State of Liang would act so shamelessly. Since that’s the case, there’s no longer any point in continuing the duel. Li Jin, return to formation!”

“Yes, Commander!”

Li Jin withdrew his spear, turned his horse around, and rode back to the Black Wind Cavalry’s formation.

That was close.

Just now, it had appeared as if Li Jin had found a weakness in the old general from the State of Liang, but in truth, it had been a trap deliberately set by the seasoned general to lure him in. It was sheer luck that those on the other side failed to notice the ruse, and mistakenly thinking their general was about to lose, they attempted a sneak attack on Li Jin.

And as for her, Gu Jiao had seized this exact moment to end the duel on a justified pretext.

The soldier who had launched the ambush now stepped forward. It was none other than Song Kai. He gave a cold snort and said, “Uncle Cheng, why waste time talking to them? Let’s start the battle!”

By now, the matter had escalated to a point where continuing the duel would have been a farce. There was no face left to save.

General Cheng gave the order to charge.

Gu Jiao raised her voice and declared, “Black Wind Cavalry, engage with full force!”

Archers on both sides unleashed the first volley of arrows, and under the cover of those arrows, the first wave of cavalry from each side began to charge onto the battlefield.

The army of the State of Liang held a decisive advantage in numbers. They intended to drag this into a battle of attrition, grinding the Black Wind Cavalry down to nothing if they had to.

And their iron cavalry were by no means weak; in fact, their ranks were interspersed with elite death warriors.

These death warriors did not bother fighting the ordinary soldiers of the Black Wind Cavalry. Their only purpose was to harvest the heads of officers and generals.

In the blink of an eye, three vice commanders of the Black Wind Cavalry fell!

“Ahhh—!”

One of the death warriors locked onto Cheng Fugui and delivered a brutal kick, knocking him off his horse!

At that very moment, another warhorse barreled forward, unable to slow its charge in time. Cheng Fugui’s brow twitched, and he quickly rolled to the side to dodge the hooves.

Elsewhere on the battlefield, Li Jin had also been targeted by two death warriors. They launched a flanking attack from both sides, and before long, a deep gash had already been carved into Li Jin’s thigh.

A death warrior raised his sword and slashed down toward Li Jin’s head.

Gu Jiao thrust her spear and parried the long blade aside. At the same time, the Black Wind King reared and slammed his front hooves viciously into the death warrior’s chest with tremendous force!

Caught off guard, the death warrior was sent flying and crashed to the ground, only to land directly beneath the hooves of another Black Wind Cavalry horse. He raised his sword in an attempt to sever the incoming legs.

But Gu Jiao’s red-tasseled spear came flying through the air, piercing mercilessly into his chest!

Spurring her horse forward, Gu Jiao yanked the spear free from the body, spun around, and hurled it once more. The weapon flew in a perfect arc and impaled another death warrior through the skull, splattering Cheng Fugui’s face with brain matter.

Cheng Fugui was completely stunned!

All around, the death warrior of the State of Liang began to feel a creeping sense of dread. These were men who had never once known the meaning of fear, and yet now they found themselves shivering in unease.

Instinctively, they turned toward the source of that overwhelming killing intent, only to see a youth clad in crimson robes and dark armor calmly staring at them from atop her horse.

It was precisely that eerie calm that made Gu Jiao so terrifying—as if, in her eyes, endless slaughter was no different from drawing breath.

From the moment she had locked eyes on them, they were no longer death warrior of the State of Liang, but prey chosen by a god of death.

One death warrior fell after another, yet the youth’s gaze remained unshaken, ever steady.

Within the State of Liang’s formation, several generals watched this scene unfold, and their brows furrowed in unison.

A silver spear-wielding general in his early thirties muttered under his breath, “What the hell… how is that brat so strong? Is he really only nineteen?”

Beside him, a young swordsman with his arms crossed replied coolly, “Not even. According to those who’ve seen him, he’s no older than sixteen or seventeen at most.”

The silver spear general asked, incredulous, “Then how is it that he kills without even blinking an eye?”

Gu Jiao truly, genuinely killed without so much as a blink; not even a ripple of emotion crossed her face, as if taking lives was no different from drawing breath. In the blink of an eye, she had already slain half of the twenty death warriors that had charged at her!

That youth’s strength was nothing short of terrifying!

As the silver spear general spoke, his eyes suddenly widened in shock. “Huh? He’s gone! Did he die?!”

The young swordsman narrowed his eyes slightly and murmured, “Dead?”

The silver spear general’s pupils contracted sharply. “No, this is bad! He’s charging toward us!”

Gu Jiao commanded, “Left flank, provide cover!”

“Yes, Commander!” Tong Zhong immediately adjusted the battle formation, coordinating the left flank troops to carve out a bloody path for Gu Jiao to advance through.

Meanwhile, Mu Qingchen provided support from the right flank, shielding Gu Jiao’s advance on that side.

By the time the generals of the State of Liang realized that something was wrong, Gu Jiao was already right before their battle line.

“Stop him!” The silver spear general shouted with a harsh bark.

A whole row of soldiers raised their longswords in unison and surged toward Gu Jiao like a tidal wave.

Gu Jiao tightened her grip on the reins and shouted, “Big Boss!”

Black Wind King gathered every ounce of his strength and sprang into the air, leaping high over everyone's heads with an explosive burst of power!

Everyone stood there stunned.

None of them had ever seen a warhorse so agile and fierce, it was downright terrifying!

Black Wind King charged forward like a storm, fearless in the face of death, ramming aside every soldier that tried to block its path.

The young swordsman turned around and caught sight of the figure, his expression shifting. “This is bad! He’s headed toward my foster father!”

Gu Jiao, riding atop her steed, seemed to merge completely with Black Wind King's strength, becoming one unstoppable force as she tore through the State of Liang’s ranks like an arrow loosed from a bow, completely unstoppable.

In the dream she had once seen, the one that foretold her fate, Jing Kong had died by the hand of Chu Feipeng.

It was Chu Feipeng who had wiped out the very last remnants of Great Yan’s Black Wind Cavalry.

If she could kill Chu Feipeng, then perhaps she could prevent the tragedy that befell Jing Kong and the Black Wind Cavalry. Perhaps today’s battle would come to an end with that.

“Stop him! Don’t let him near the Great General!”

The State of Liang’s soldiers were crowding in tighter and tighter, forming an ever-thickening wall of bodies.

Black Wind King’s charge was becoming more labored, each step harder than the last.

Hold on, Big Boss!

We’re so close!

She could see the man inside the carriage!

Gripping the saddle with one hand, she launched herself into the air, and using the momentum, she thrust her spear down toward the carriage with a powerful strike!

Description:

In the suspenseful supernatural novel “Records of Mortals,” Jiang Baiyan, once a solitary and impoverished youth, finds refuge in the Shi family of Chang’an due to his extraordinary bloodline. With his clear and captivating peach blossom eyes, this seemingly innocent young man conceals a fanatical and malevolent lunatic within. Destined to succumb to darkness amidst hardship and degradation, he becomes a harbinger of chaos.

When Shi Dai suddenly transmigrates, she takes on the role of the Shi family’s young lady, the one who subjects him to countless trials, eventually leading to her demise.

The twist? She never got to finish reading the novel.

From what she knew of the plot, Jiang Baiyan was just a silent, timid, and often bullied pitiable character.

***

Jiang Baiyan had never encountered someone like Shi Dai.

After he had slaughtered all the evil creatures in the garden, the blood-stained young man, exuding a murderous aura, approached her step by step, his lips curling into a malicious smile, "Scared?"

Shi Dai responded, “You’re really amazing! I applaud you until I spin like a spiral and fly around the moon three hundred times! And also——you have dimples when you smile!"

Jiang Baiyan: ...?

After seeing her at a lantern festival with another man, Jiang Baiyan lowered his eyes, his fingers twirling her hair. He said in a mocking and sinister tone, "The mansion in the western suburbs...if I hide you there, no one will find you, right?"

Shi Dai replied, "Does it come with meals and lodging? Can I sleep in everyday? Oh, and your cooking is the best!"

Jiang Baiyan: ...?

Jiang Baiyan was supposed to dislike her, even hate her, but as their separation drew near, his eyes turned red and he grabbed her sleeve, pleading, "Don't abandon me, alri—”

Shi Dai responded, "Alright, alright, I’ll only have you. Mwah."

Jiang Baiyan: ...?

He hasn't finished his lines yet though…
