Also, many thanks to everyone who bought me coffee (*≧∀≦*)
A sudden numbness shot through An Hun’s arm. His brows furrowed as he flipped backward, landing just outside the gates of the abandoned winery.
When he got a clear look at his opponent, he let out a cold scoff. “It’s you again!”
Long Yi stood in front of Gu Jiao, his expression completely devoid of emotion.
An Hun sneered. “You really don’t remember anything, do you? Not even me.”
He shifted his gaze toward Gu Jiao before turning back to Long Yi. “Don’t let these people fool you. You and I are on the same side. I am your senior brother. You failed your mission back then—if I were you, I’d return and accept my punishment.”
“Step aside and stay out of this. If you let me pass, I’ll overlook the fact that you’ve been colluding with the people of the State of Zhao these past years. If you return now, I won’t expose you.”
Long Yi did not move.
An Hun’s eyes darkened. “So, you refuse a toast only to drink the forfeit? Do you really think you can defeat me? You underestimate me too much!”
As soon as he finished speaking, he suddenly unleashed a surge of internal force.
Gu Jiao had always been highly attuned to the aura of death warriors, and she could distinctly sense that An Hun’s energy had grown far stronger than in their previous encounters. How had he improved so dramatically in just a few short days?
It was true that death warriors became stronger through repeated survival of life-or-death battles, but his sudden surge in power was far too abnormal.
Could it have something to do with the purple herb poison he had once been afflicted with?
If that were the case, Long Yi was at a clear disadvantage.
Over the years, in order to enhance his martial prowess, An Hun had engaged in countless deadly duels. In contrast, Long Yi had not had such opportunities in the State of Zhao.
As expected, in this round of battle, An Hun quickly gained the upper hand.
An Hun, aiming for a swift victory, drew the sword at his waist, and Long Yi responded in kind by unsheathing his own blade.
This was the first time Gu Jiao had seen Long Yi wield a sword. The two were indeed fellow disciples, for their swordsmanship was identical, both specializing in rapid strikes, with one move barely completed before the next seamlessly followed.
Gu Jiao's eyes darted frantically, barely able to keep up. "Such fast swordplay!"
Judging from their exchanges, An Hun held the advantage in both technique and internal force.
An Hun's sword slashed at Long Yi’s left arm, but Long Yi swiftly blocked with his own blade. An Hun sneered coldly, "All these years, I've trained tirelessly, just in case you weren’t dead—so that when we met again, I could defeat you fair and square!"
As he finished speaking, he delivered a kick toward Long Yi’s abdomen. However, he miscalculated and his attack missed; instead, Long Yi’s blade grazed his arm.
An Hun frowned, glancing at the blood trickling from his upper left arm, and gritted his teeth. "I was careless."
Gu Jiao deliberately goaded him. "Careless? Face it, you just can’t beat Long Yi! What was the point of all your years of hard training? Even after all this time, you still can’t win against a memoryless Shi Tian!"
An Hun was struck where it hurt most. His breath hitched, and he narrowly avoided another of Long Yi’s strikes.
"You brat! Shut up!" He bellowed in fury.
Gu Jiao raised an eyebrow. "Oh? Can’t handle the truth? Then stop fighting and go home with your tail between your legs! Maybe after another ten years of training, you’ll barely be able to match Long Yi. Though, honestly, I still doubt it."
An Hun was a proud warrior, and for his entire life, he had lived under Shi Tian’s shadow. Shi Tian was his personal demon, and the one thing he could never tolerate was being told he was inferior to him!
"That was twenty years ago! I am no longer, Shi Tian’s, defeated, shadow!"
An Hun spat out the last words through gritted teeth. He gathered all his internal force and thrust his sword toward Long Yi’s heart.
But his mind had been too rattled, his breath too unstable; Long Yi had already seen through his attack.
With a swift counter, Long Yi flicked his wrist and sent An Hun’s sword flying from his grasp!
That strike marked the beginning of a nightmare.
An Hun was completely enraged. A dark bloodlust surged in his eyes, and his aura began to shift.
Gu Jiao knew that aura all too well.
An Hun… was about to lose control!
The Imperial Advisor had warned that those who had been poisoned by the purple herb would experience episodes of madness—usually in life-or-death situations, though there were exceptions.
Gu Jiao frowned. "Is this bastard planning to go down with Long Yi?"
Even the Black Wind King instinctively sensed the looming danger, its entire body tensing.
In a flash, An Hun lunged at Long Yi, seizing his sword with bare hands and striking him down with a powerful palm attack!
Then, before Long Yi could recover, An Hun appeared beside him again, grabbed his collar, and began to pummel him mercilessly!
Every punch carried terrifying internal force; Gu Jiao even heard the sickening crack of breaking bones.
Long Yi was completely overpowered by An Hun’s berserk state!
Even worse, whether it was due to An Hun’s energy or Long Yi’s own survival instincts, Gu Jiao sensed an ominous shift in Long Yi’s aura as well.
Long Yi… was about to lose control too!
Blood-red fury filled Long Yi’s eyes. With each punch he endured, the chains restraining his killer instincts threatened to snap.
Gu Jiao’s gaze turned sharp. She reached for an arrow from her quiver, drew her bow to its full length, and shot straight through An Hun’s thigh!
But in his frenzied state, such a wound was meaningless; he didn’t even register the pain.
However, he could not tolerate the provocation.
He flung Long Yi aside and launched a palm strike at Gu Jiao!
The Black Wind King tried to carry Gu Jiao away, but it was too late. An Hun’s strike landed and she was thrown backward, slamming hard against the crumbling walls of the abandoned winery.
She crashed to the ground as the stone wall collapsed with a thunderous roar, its massive weight poised to bury her alive!
Yet, Gu Jiao did not get crushed beneath the falling debris.
Long Yi shielded her with his broad frame.
Gu Jiao stared into his blood-misted eyes and watched as the red haze gradually faded. "Long Yi…"
Long Yi panted heavily.
He had not lost control.
He had not reverted into the mindless beast that knew only slaughter.
Carrying Gu Jiao, Long Yi leaped into the air with effortless grace, landing gently on Black Wind King’s back before setting her down.
In a flash, he charged toward An Hun like a bolt of lightning, his fist striking An Hun’s chest with unstoppable force!
An Hun had no time to evade, and he was slammed to the ground on the spot!
Without hesitation, Long Yi delivered another punch, the sheer impact shattering An Hun’s ribs with a sickening crack, the broken bones piercing into his lungs.
His breathing grew rapid, the overwhelming pain and the rapid depletion of his internal force gradually pulling him back to consciousness.
He looked up at Long Yi in utter disbelief.
Indeed, Long Yi’s gaze carried the intent to kill, yet it lacked the uncontrollable bloodthirst of someone who had lost all reason.
…Why?
Why was this happening?
Why was Long Yi able to defeat him even while completely lucid, while he himself had succumbed to his own frenzy?
"You… can’t… defeat… me…"
Before he could finish his sentence, Long Yi twisted his hand in a swift motion and, with a snap, broke his neck without hesitation.
An Hun collapsed lifelessly to the ground, his eyes wide open in death, as if unable to comprehend how he had lost even in his final moments.
He had not been defeated by the death warrior Shi Tian.
He had been defeated by a man named Long Yi.

Description:
In the suspenseful supernatural novel “Records of Mortals,” Jiang Baiyan, once a solitary and impoverished youth, finds refuge in the Shi family of Chang’an due to his extraordinary bloodline. With his clear and captivating peach blossom eyes, this seemingly innocent young man conceals a fanatical and malevolent lunatic within. Destined to succumb to darkness amidst hardship and degradation, he becomes a harbinger of chaos.
When Shi Dai suddenly transmigrates, she takes on the role of the Shi family’s young lady, the one who subjects him to countless trials, eventually leading to her demise.
The twist? She never got to finish reading the novel.
From what she knew of the plot, Jiang Baiyan was just a silent, timid, and often bullied pitiable character.
***
Jiang Baiyan had never encountered someone like Shi Dai.
After he had slaughtered all the evil creatures in the garden, the blood-stained young man, exuding a murderous aura, approached her step by step, his lips curling into a malicious smile, "Scared?"
Shi Dai responded, “You’re really amazing! I applaud you until I spin like a spiral and fly around the moon three hundred times! And also——you have dimples when you smile!"
Jiang Baiyan: ...?
—
After seeing her at a lantern festival with another man, Jiang Baiyan lowered his eyes, his fingers twirling her hair. He said in a mocking and sinister tone, "The mansion in the western suburbs...if I hide you there, no one will find you, right?"
Shi Dai replied, "Does it come with meals and lodging? Can I sleep in everyday? Oh, and your cooking is the best!"
Jiang Baiyan: ...?
—
Jiang Baiyan was supposed to dislike her, even hate her, but as their separation drew near, his eyes turned red and he grabbed her sleeve, pleading, "Don't abandon me, alri—”
Shi Dai responded, "Alright, alright, I’ll only have you. Mwah."
Jiang Baiyan: ...?
He hasn't finished his lines yet though…
