An Hun's strikes were both swift and ruthless. Though he lacked a longbow, his speed far surpassed that of ordinary hidden weapons.
The archer noticed the expert's movements. The arrow seemed to be aimed at the young eunuch beside him, yet in truth, it would wound him as well.
But the arrow was too fast!
There was no way to dodge!
The archer's body froze in place, stunned.
Gu Jiao grabbed him and, with a swift movement, darted to the side!
Two arrows whizzed past where they had just been crouching, their terrifying force embedding them into the eaves behind, slicing off a chunk of the roof's corner with frightening precision!
Seeing this, the archer swallowed hard. He could scarcely imagine—if not for the young eunuch’s quick reaction, the thing getting sliced off might have been his own head.
An Hun's primary objective was to rescue Han shi. Those two arrows had served both as a warning to Gu Jiao and as a means to buy time for his mission.
He did not linger in further entanglement with Gu Jiao. With Han shi in tow and under the protection of Han Fu’s men, he fought his way out of the encirclement.
Gu Jiao had no intention of letting him leave so easily!
In the dream of that three-year-long civil war, though Han shi was the mastermind behind it, An Hun had played no small part. Time and again, when noble families attempted to assassinate Han shi, their efforts ended in failure, all because of An Hun’s interference.
To kill Han shi, one must first eliminate An Hun!
Gu Jiao seized a longbow. "The quiver, give it to me!"
"Yes!" The archer immediately handed over the quiver strapped to his back.
With the quiver in hand, Gu Jiao dashed swiftly along the rooftops, pursuing Han shi and An Hun.
The archer suddenly snapped back to his senses. Wait, why had he just said "yes" so readily?
That kid was just a young eunuch! Since when did he, a seasoned archer, bow his head and take orders from the likes of him?
And even obediently hand over his own bow and arrows?
"Hey—be careful!"
Damn it!
What he had meant to say was—give it back to me, you little brat!
How had it come out differently?
On the ground, the forces of the Commandery Office and the Wang Family surged in an unending stream. An Hun’s escape with Han shi was anything but smooth. And the moment he attempted to take to the air with his qinggong, he became a live target, fully exposed under Gu Jiao’s watchful eyes.
At first, An Hun had not realized just how precise Gu Jiao's archery was. Yet the very first time he attempted to move using qinggong, an arrow shot straight through his sleeve!
An Hun’s brow furrowed. Before Gu Jiao could loose a second arrow, he struck out with a powerful palm attack.
Gu Jiao had already anticipated his counterattack. The moment she fired the first arrow, she had dodged away; there was never a second shot to begin with.
This was the classic move, ‘I anticipated your anticipation.’
As she rolled along the rooftop, seemingly in retreat, she covertly drew her bowstring, and the instant she stabilized herself in a one-knee stance, the arrow flew from her fingertips, piercing straight into the heart of one of Han Family’s trusted aides!
The man let out a scream and collapsed. The Commandery Office soldiers in front of him turned at the sound, only then realizing that the fallen man had been holding a sword, poised to strike them from behind in a sneak attack.
One of the soldiers glanced up at the rooftop, at the young eunuch who had just saved his life. He gave a grateful nod before throwing himself back into the battle with even greater fervor.
Gu Jiao continued her pursuit of An Hun.
In terms of martial arts, the current Gu Jiao, whose strength had yet to fully recover, was no match for An Hun. But her archery was so masterful that even a formidable figure like An Hun found himself suppressed by it.
This was something An Hun had never expected.
He had thought Gu Jiao was merely a rising cavalry soldier in the Black Wind Camp. Who would have guessed he was also a born archer with monstrous strength?
That kid... it was as if he had been born for the battlefield!
An Hun no longer leaped into the air to make himself an easy target. Instead, he fought his way forward on the ground, taking Han shi with him.
If Gu Jiao couldn't kill An Hun, she would kill the Han Family’s men instead.
As Han Fu fought on, he began to sense that something was off. Yet by the time he turned to look, all of the Han Family’s trusted aides surrounding him had been shot down!
Han Fu’s first reaction was, since when had the Wang Ffamily's archers been this deadly?
Had he known, the Han Family should have taken control of the archery battalion back then!
The next second, however, he realized that the one who had slain so many of the Han Family’s confidants was not an archer from the Wang Family but rather the young eunuch who escorted the real Emperor into the imperial palace!
Sweat trickled down, smudging the disguise on Gu Jiao’s face.
Han Fu caught sight of the red birthmark on the left side of her face, and his gaze trembled slightly. “Xiao Liulang!”
As a loyal confidant of the Han Family, he bore deep resentment toward the one who had taken over as the new commander of the Black Wind Cavalry. Not only had he seen the real person during the selection, but he had also secretly studied Gu Jiao’s portrait.
This child was practically the Han Family’s worst nightmare!
Han Fu slashed a Commandery Office soldier with his sword and prepared to leap across the rooftops in pursuit of Gu Jiao.
Gu Jiao paid him no heed.
He was not her target.
Wang Xu lunged forward, brandishing his sword to block Han Fu. “Han scum, don’t even think about running!”
Han Fu was completely entangled with Wang Xu, unable to break free. The two clashed, their swords flashing, quickly descending into a fierce and bloody battle.
With the army of the Commandery Office and the archers of the Wang Family working together, Han Fu’s imperial guards were overwhelmingly crushed.
Gu Jiao had no concerns about the situation within the imperial palace and continued her relentless pursuit of An Hun and Han shi.
She chased them out of the imperial palace, where the Black Wind King had been waiting in advance. She grabbed the reins, swung her leg over the saddle, and mounted the horse in one swift motion.
Following An Hun’s trail, the Black Wind King galloped forward at full speed. An Hun did not choose to escape into the bustling, crowded streets but instead veered into a sparsely populated old alleyway.
It seemed an unfavorable choice for hiding, yet the unobstructed roads actually made for a more efficient escape route.
When Gu Jiao reached an abandoned winery, both she and the Black Wind King could distinctly sense an unusual murderous intent lingering in the air.
Gu Jiao tightened the reins, and both horse and rider halted in perfect synchrony.
The surroundings were eerily silent, as if even the wind had ceased to exist. Gu Jiao could hear nothing but her own breathing and that of the Black Wind King.
Suddenly, a sharp noise came from the east. Gu Jiao swiftly drew her bow and aimed toward the source, only to abruptly release the arrow toward a thatched rooftop in the southeast!
A figure shot out from behind the rooftop—it was none other than An Hun!
A flicker of surprise flashed through An Hun’s eyes. “Kid, you actually saw through it! Your archery skills are truly impressive! How about this? Kneel down, give me three kowtows, and call me ‘Master.’ In return, I’ll spare your life.”
Gu Jiao plucked another arrow from the quiver on her back and nocked it onto the bowstring. “I think the one kneeling should be you!”
“You’re full of nonsense! Take this!”
An Hun spread his arms wide and soared through the air, his black robes billowing like the wings of a bloodthirsty bat as he lunged mercilessly toward Gu Jiao.
And yet Gu Jiao remained seated on her horse without dodging.
A trace of doubt flickered in An Hun’s gaze, but he did not hold back.
However, just as his palm was about to strike Gu Jiao, a fist suddenly emerged from behind her and met his attack head-on!

Description:
In the suspenseful supernatural novel “Records of Mortals,” Jiang Baiyan, once a solitary and impoverished youth, finds refuge in the Shi family of Chang’an due to his extraordinary bloodline. With his clear and captivating peach blossom eyes, this seemingly innocent young man conceals a fanatical and malevolent lunatic within. Destined to succumb to darkness amidst hardship and degradation, he becomes a harbinger of chaos.
When Shi Dai suddenly transmigrates, she takes on the role of the Shi family’s young lady, the one who subjects him to countless trials, eventually leading to her demise.
The twist? She never got to finish reading the novel.
From what she knew of the plot, Jiang Baiyan was just a silent, timid, and often bullied pitiable character.
***
Jiang Baiyan had never encountered someone like Shi Dai.
After he had slaughtered all the evil creatures in the garden, the blood-stained young man, exuding a murderous aura, approached her step by step, his lips curling into a malicious smile, "Scared?"
Shi Dai responded, “You’re really amazing! I applaud you until I spin like a spiral and fly around the moon three hundred times! And also——you have dimples when you smile!"
Jiang Baiyan: ...?
—
After seeing her at a lantern festival with another man, Jiang Baiyan lowered his eyes, his fingers twirling her hair. He said in a mocking and sinister tone, "The mansion in the western suburbs...if I hide you there, no one will find you, right?"
Shi Dai replied, "Does it come with meals and lodging? Can I sleep in everyday? Oh, and your cooking is the best!"
Jiang Baiyan: ...?
—
Jiang Baiyan was supposed to dislike her, even hate her, but as their separation drew near, his eyes turned red and he grabbed her sleeve, pleading, "Don't abandon me, alri—”
Shi Dai responded, "Alright, alright, I’ll only have you. Mwah."
Jiang Baiyan: ...?
He hasn't finished his lines yet though…
