Also, many thanks to everyone who bought me coffee (*≧∀≦*)
As the Crown Princess, Shangguan Yan’s status was only below that of the Emperor, Empress Dowager and the Empress, with everyone else ranking beneath her.
Imperial Consort Wang smiled faintly. “Yan’er is quite polite today.”
Shangguan Yan replied, “Times have changed. I am no longer the Crown Princess, so I can no longer carry myself as one.”
Imperial Consort Wang took a sip of tea, her eyes flickering slightly. “I heard that you were gravely injured.”
Shangguan Yan answered directly, “To be honest, my injury is fake.”
Imperial Consort Wang was momentarily stunned.
Shangguan Yan smiled. “With your intelligence, imperial consort, you must have already suspected as much, haven’t you?”
Lowering her gaze, Imperial Consort Wang said, “I am simply surprised that you would admit it to me so openly.”
Shangguan Yan replied, “I came here with sincerity. Naturally, I won’t hide anything from you.”
Imperial Consort Wang said, “It’s only logical for you to want to fight back after the Crown Prince harmed you and the Han Family attempted to assassinate Qing’er.”
“I’m not just looking to fight back.” Shangguan Yan said boldly, her straightforwardness momentarily catching Imperial Consort Wang off guard.
Imperial Consort Wang opened her mouth, about to speak, but was momentarily speechless: "You..."
Shangguan Yan's expression suddenly grew serious as she said, “I want to reclaim my position as Crown Princess. I need your help, imperial consort mother.”
A trace of astonishment flickered in Imperial Consort Wang’s eyes again, replying, "This... I can speak on your behalf in front of His Majesty, but whether or not you can reclaim your position as the Crown Princess is not something I can decide."
Shangguan Yan smiled faintly and said, “Imperial consort mother, I came here with sincerity. Why do you still feel the need to hide your true thoughts? Can a ten-year-old Sixth Prince really be more reliable than me?”
Imperial Consort Wang lowered her gaze and took a sip of tea. “I don’t understand what you’re talking about.”
Shangguan Yan replied calmly, “Imperial Consort Wan was banished to the cold palace, and her prince was entrusted to you for care. Now, you have everything, imperial consort mother, except for a prince with the potential to ascend the throne. Forgive my bluntness, but compared to Prince Xu, Prince Ling, and Prince Li, the ten-year-old Sixth Prince doesn’t stand a chance. Even Shangguan Qi, who was stripped of his Crown Prince title, has a better chance of making a comeback than the Sixth Prince does of becoming Emperor.”
Beneath her wide sleeves, Imperial Consort Wang’s fingers tightened into a fist.
Shangguan Yan continued, “The Wang Family is a noble household that can rival the Han Family. However, the possibility of a princess being named heir to the throne was never going to happen for my elder sisters. It must be quite frustrating for you, right imperial consort mother? How come I, as a princess, could be named heir to the throne but they can’t? What I want to tell you is this: people are born different. My starting point is the endpoint for so many of my siblings. Even if I am a dragon stranded in shallow waters, as long as I wish to return, I will always have the best chance of success!”
Imperial Consort Wang gave a faint smile, “The Xuanyuan Family is gone. What chance do you have left?”
Shangguan Yan smiled in return. “I still have you, imperial consort mother. As long as you are willing to help me, I will help you become Empress. From then on, the Wang Family will be my maternal clan!”
“I know words alone aren’t enough, so I will put it in writing!”
The temptation was overwhelming.
Imperial Consort Wang remained silent for a long time.
The incense stick on the table burned halfway down before she finally asked in a low voice, “What do you want me to do?”
Shangguan Yan took a brocade box from her wide sleeve and placed it on the table. “I ask that you place the contents of this box in Imperial Noble Consort Han’s bedchamber.”
......
But was that the end of it?
Not at all.
Shangguan Yan turned on her heel and headed toward the Chen Palace.
......
“As long as you, Imperial Consort Mother Chen, are willing to help me, I will help you become Empress. From then on, the Dong Family will be my maternal clan!”
......
“As long as you, Imperial Consort Mother De, are willing to help me, I will help you become Empress. From then on, the Yang Family will be my maternal clan!”
......
“Imperial Consort Mother Shu, there’s no need to stand on ceremony. We’re all family now. The Chen Family will be my maternal clan, and I will surely help you become Empress!”
......
“Imperial Lady Zhaoyi, rest assured. As long as we join forces, the position of Empress and Crown Princess will belong to us. I have no maternal clan now, so I will rely heavily on the Fang Family in the future.”
......
After sending out all these small tokens, Shangguan Yan clasped her hands behind her back and exhaled deeply.
Indeed, when one abandons all shame, they become invincible!
After Shangguan Yan completed her task, she crawled out through a dog hole in the cold palace and reunited with Gu Chengfeng, who had been waiting for a long time.
Riding a horse or traveling by carriage would create too much noise, so utilizing qinggong skill was the best choice for sneaky activities in the dead of night.
Gu Chengfeng used his qinggong to carry Shangguan Yan back to the Imperial Advisor's Hall.
Gu Jiao, along with her Grandaunt and Granduncle, had been waiting in Gu Jiao’s room for quite some time. Xiao Heng had also returned from inspecting the house earlier.
Little Jing Kong was already clean and tucked into bed, sound asleep.
After the two entered the room, Gu Jiao first went behind the screen to check Shangguan Yan’s injuries.
Shangguan Yan had undergone a percutaneous pedicle screw fixation surgery on her spine. Despite using the best medicine and showing good recovery progress, such intense activity was still quite taxing on her body.
“I’m fine.” Shangguan Yan said, patting the protective armor on her body. “This thing really saves a lot of effort.”
Gu Jiao removed the armor and inspected her wound. The stitched area showed no signs of redness or swelling.
“Do you feel any other discomfort?” Gu Jiao asked.
“None.”
Well, except for feeling a bit tired.
But Shangguan Yan didn’t voice this thought.
Everyone had been willing to sacrifice everything for the greater cause. A little fatigue or pain on her part was nothing. It was all worth it.
When Shangguan Yan attempted to put the armor back on, Gu Jiao stopped her.
“You need to go back to your room and rest now.” Gu Jiao said. “You can’t sit or stand for too long anymore.”
“I want to listen.” Shangguan Yan insisted, unwilling to leave.
She wanted to join in the fun.
Having a naturally lively personality, Shangguan Yan had spent many years confined in the imperial mausoleum. It had been a long time since she had felt this kind of warmth and camaraderie.
She wanted to stay with everyone.
After thinking for a moment, Gu Jiao said, “Then squeeze in with Little Jing Kong for now. We’ll finish discussing matters and then have Ah Heng take you back to your room. But be careful—he might kick you.”
Little Jing Kong’s sleeping posture was rather unpredictable. Sometimes he was as docile as a silkworm, and other times he turned into a little wrecking ball.
“Got it!” Shangguan Yan replied confidently. After all, she did have some skills!
Shangguan Yan lay down on the bed behind the screen, and Gu Jiao lowered the bed curtain for her.

Description:
In the suspenseful supernatural novel “Records of Mortals,” Jiang Baiyan, once a solitary and impoverished youth, finds refuge in the Shi family of Chang’an due to his extraordinary bloodline. With his clear and captivating peach blossom eyes, this seemingly innocent young man conceals a fanatical and malevolent lunatic within. Destined to succumb to darkness amidst hardship and degradation, he becomes a harbinger of chaos.
When Shi Dai suddenly transmigrates, she takes on the role of the Shi family’s young lady, the one who subjects him to countless trials, eventually leading to her demise.
The twist? She never got to finish reading the novel.
From what she knew of the plot, Jiang Baiyan was just a silent, timid, and often bullied pitiable character.
***
Jiang Baiyan had never encountered someone like Shi Dai.
After he had slaughtered all the evil creatures in the garden, the blood-stained young man, exuding a murderous aura, approached her step by step, his lips curling into a malicious smile, "Scared?"
Shi Dai responded, “You’re really amazing! I applaud you until I spin like a spiral and fly around the moon three hundred times! And also——you have dimples when you smile!"
Jiang Baiyan: ...?
—
After seeing her at a lantern festival with another man, Jiang Baiyan lowered his eyes, his fingers twirling her hair. He said in a mocking and sinister tone, "The mansion in the western suburbs...if I hide you there, no one will find you, right?"
Shi Dai replied, "Does it come with meals and lodging? Can I sleep in everyday? Oh, and your cooking is the best!"
Jiang Baiyan: ...?
—
Jiang Baiyan was supposed to dislike her, even hate her, but as their separation drew near, his eyes turned red and he grabbed her sleeve, pleading, "Don't abandon me, alri—”
Shi Dai responded, "Alright, alright, I’ll only have you. Mwah."
Jiang Baiyan: ...?
He hasn't finished his lines yet though…
