After school today, the Little County Princess once again came to the Imperial Advisor's Hall.

The two little ones worked together to complete the homework assigned by Teacher Lu.

The process of completing the homework went like this—Little Jing Kong carefully worked through every single question, while the Little County Princess diligently drew a little turtle on each one.

Teacher Lu didn’t dare to criticize her and had to reluctantly give her homework an "A" every time, even though it went against his conscience.

As for someone who could make it into the spotlight with just the strength of drawing little turtles, Little County Princess was the first in history, ancient and modern alike.

Having one little trumpet spirit was noisy enough, but now with another tiny chatterbox joining in, it was like a stereo system playing in dual channels, looping continuously. Grandaunt nearly got sent to the heavens, almost flying alongside the sun.

Zhang Dequan had no idea that the Empress Dowager's very soul was nearly driven out of her body by the noise inside the room. He was only feeling sorry for the Emperor, who adored the Little County Princess and eagerly awaited her every day.

But alas, daughters grow up and couldn’t be kept at home forever.

Out in the courtyard, Zhang Dequan hesitantly said, “Little County Princess, perhaps it’s not ideal to visit the Imperial Advisor's Hall so often...”

The Little County Princess retorted confidently, “What’s wrong with me visiting my little nephew and cousin?”

Are you really here to visit the Eldest Imperial Grandson and the Third Princess?

Maybe you should put down the comb in your hand before making that claim.

The two little ones were busy combing a horse——

The horse king had long since fled, leaving the Black Wind King lying docilely on the ground while the two little ones fearlessly lay on its back.

“Your hair is so beautiful.” The Little County Princess said sweetly, her voice soft and childish, as she combed the Black Wind King’s mane.

The Black Wind King had an extraordinarily high tolerance for human children. It rested peacefully while they combed it.

No longer was it the perpetually tense and vigilant warhorse it had been at the Han Family, always on guard and never allowing itself to show even the slightest sign of weakness or fatigue.

No one required it to be an indomitable warhorse anymore.

Now, it could rest, laze about, and enjoy the leisure it hadn’t experienced in fifteen years.

It no longer lived for its master or for waiting; for the rest of its life, it would live only for itself and fight alongside its companions.

And fighting side by side wasn’t a task; it was its true calling.

Inside the room.

Gu Jiao finished crafting the third little figurine. She had been working on them all day, and her eyes were sore.

“Is this good enough, Grandaunt?” Gu Jiao handed the figurine to Empress Dowager Zhuang for inspection.

Grandaunt nodded and turned to Old Chief nearby, “Still not done writing?”

“It’s done, it’s done!” Old Chief set down his writing brush and began sticking small slips of paper onto the backs of the figurines.

The method Grandaunt had described was actually quite simple, though rather crude—a curse technique.

It was commonly referred to as "stabbing little figures."

In this feudal superstitious era, curse techniques were explicitly forbidden by the law because it was widely believed to be extremely malicious, almost as harmful as murder or arson, and insidiously wicked.

“Silver needles.” Grandaunt instructed.

Gu Jiao took out some silver needles and began poking them into the figurines. She joked, “Grandaunt, aren’t you afraid you might accidentally kill Ah Heng with this?”

Empress Dowager Zhuang replied calmly, “This isn’t Ah Heng’s birth date and horoscope—it’s Xiao Qing’s.”

Gu Jiao: “...”

Empress Dowager Zhuang added, “Besides, this thing doesn’t work. Not even a little.”

Her tone carried a heavy sense of resentment, as if she had tried it herself, poured in a great deal of effort, only to fail miserably.

Curious, Gu Jiao asked, “How do you know? Grandaunt, have you tried it before? Who did you stab?”

Empress Dowager Zhuang discreetly glanced at Old Chief across from her, coughed lightly, and said, “No one.”

Gu Jiao caught Grandaunt’s glance and felt a newfound admiration for Old Chief. To have survived Grandaunt’s schemes was a testament to his resilience and strength.

Gu Jiao continued crafting the figurines. “The figurines are ready. Now, we just need to figure out how to get them into Imperial Noble Consort Han’s palace.”

The night was dark, and the wind howled.

A small figure dressed in a eunuch’s uniform squeezed through the doghole of the cold palace. Once outside, they stood up, brushing off the bits of grass stuck to their hair.

Outside the cold palace walls, a young man’s voice called out, “I’ll wait for you here.”

“I know.” The little eunuch replied.

“Be careful.”

“You’re so naggy!” The little eunuch snorted, turned around, and walked away.

The little eunuch strolled through the palace with an air of confidence. Only when they reached an area where more palace servants were present did they hunch their shoulders and adopt a timid, subservient demeanor.

They arrived at a palace that exuded a strong floral fragrance and knocked on the tightly closed vermilion doors.

“Who is it?”

An impatient young palace maid approached. “Her Highness the Imperial Consort has already retired for the night. Who dares to knock and make such a ruckus?”

The little eunuch said nothing and simply continued knocking persistently.

The palace maid, thoroughly annoyed, removed the door bolt and opened the gate. Standing there was a petite eunuch with their head lowered, obscuring their face.

The palace maid demanded, “Who are you? How dare you barge into our Xianfu Palace in the middle of the night!”

Still silent, the little eunuch slowly raised their head.

At that exact moment, an older palace maid happened to pass by. She caught sight of the pair of phoenix-shaped eyes glowing sharply in the dim light, and her knees nearly gave out beneath her.

The little eunuch, or more accurately, Shangguan Yan, spoke with calm authority, “I wish to see your imperial consort.”

The older palace maid hurried to the inner chambers to report the matter.

It wasn’t long before she returned, dismissed the young palace maid, and respectfully ushered Shangguan Yan inside.

All other servants were cleared from the area, leaving the path to the inner chambers tranquil. The older palace maid led Shangguan Yan through a series of meticulously arranged courtyards.

Each imperial consort in the imperial palace had their own persona. For example, Imperial Noble Consort Han was devoted to Buddhist rituals, while Imperial Consort Wang cultivated flowers.

After weaving through a winding corridor, the older palace maid stopped in front of a particular room.

She remained by the door and addressed Shangguan Yan, “Imperial consort is inside. Please enter, Third Princess.”

Shangguan Yan stepped into the room.

Imperial Consort Wang was seated gracefully at the main seat, exuding an air of lofty elegance, as if she resided among the clouds.

Upon seeing Shangguan Yan, a hint of unconcealed surprise flickered in her eyes. She quickly composed herself, walked over, and gently invited Shangguan Yan to sit at the table.

Shangguan Yan remained courteous, waiting for Imperial Consort Wang to sit before taking her own seat.

This was a level of courtesy no imperial consort had ever received from her before.

Description:

In the suspenseful supernatural novel “Records of Mortals,” Jiang Baiyan, once a solitary and impoverished youth, finds refuge in the Shi family of Chang’an due to his extraordinary bloodline. With his clear and captivating peach blossom eyes, this seemingly innocent young man conceals a fanatical and malevolent lunatic within. Destined to succumb to darkness amidst hardship and degradation, he becomes a harbinger of chaos.

When Shi Dai suddenly transmigrates, she takes on the role of the Shi family’s young lady, the one who subjects him to countless trials, eventually leading to her demise.

The twist? She never got to finish reading the novel.

From what she knew of the plot, Jiang Baiyan was just a silent, timid, and often bullied pitiable character.

***

Jiang Baiyan had never encountered someone like Shi Dai.

After he had slaughtered all the evil creatures in the garden, the blood-stained young man, exuding a murderous aura, approached her step by step, his lips curling into a malicious smile, "Scared?"

Shi Dai responded, “You’re really amazing! I applaud you until I spin like a spiral and fly around the moon three hundred times! And also——you have dimples when you smile!"

Jiang Baiyan: ...?

After seeing her at a lantern festival with another man, Jiang Baiyan lowered his eyes, his fingers twirling her hair. He said in a mocking and sinister tone, "The mansion in the western suburbs...if I hide you there, no one will find you, right?"

Shi Dai replied, "Does it come with meals and lodging? Can I sleep in everyday? Oh, and your cooking is the best!"

Jiang Baiyan: ...?

Jiang Baiyan was supposed to dislike her, even hate her, but as their separation drew near, his eyes turned red and he grabbed her sleeve, pleading, "Don't abandon me, alri—”

Shi Dai responded, "Alright, alright, I’ll only have you. Mwah."

Jiang Baiyan: ...?

He hasn't finished his lines yet though…
