Chapter 706: Chapter 706: Happy Times (6)
After carefully bandaging Winter Sullivan’s hand, Vera Xavier barred her from the kitchen. Vera had already figured out that her birth mother truly had no talent for cooking.
Worried Vera might get tired, Nathaniel Nathan stepped up to help in the kitchen, while Sheldon Caldwell sat and kept Winter Sullivan company.
Watching the two of them bustling about in the kitchen, Winter Sullivan felt a wave of emotion. When she was younger, she had also wanted to learn to cook well for her family. But later, she and Julian Caldwell were so swamped with work that they were lucky to eat a meal at home even once a month.
Eventually, they hired a housekeeper who was an excellent cook, so she found herself cooking even less.
As a result, any desire she’d had to cook had faded, and to this day, her culinary skills were still nothing to write home about.
Yet seeing Vera and Nathaniel cooking together—they barely spoke, but she could tell they were perfectly in sync. Most importantly, a man like Nathaniel was actually willing to bustle around the kitchen with Vera.
Sheldon Caldwell remarked with a touch of emotion, "When I get a girlfriend, I’m going to have us cook together too."
Winter Sullivan chuckled. "That’s a nice thought, but first, you’d need a girlfriend. How about I find someone to set you up on a blind date?"
"That won’t be necessary," Sheldon Caldwell said quietly. "I’d rather find someone myself. I trust my own judgment."
Unlike most mothers, Winter Sullivan wasn’t overly eager to meddle. She felt it was best to let nature take its course, hoping only that her son would find a woman he truly loved to spend his life with.
Before coming, she had worried whether Vera and Nathaniel would welcome her, but once she arrived, she realized her worries had been for naught.
The moment she saw Vera, she knew her daughter was genuinely happy to see her. And she, in turn, found herself genuinely liking Vera and enjoying their time together. It felt as if all her worries and anxieties had simply drifted away.
Her eyes filled with a gentle warmth as she said softly, "They seem to have a great relationship."
"It’s always been great," Sheldon Caldwell sighed. "Mom, you haven’t seen them when they get really shameless with their PDA. It’s insane, like no one else in the world exists!"
"What are you talking about? Stop using such ridiculous slang," Winter Sullivan chided him gently.
He just chuckled, glancing again at Vera and Nathaniel bustling about in the kitchen. They really were a perfect match: Vera was chopping vegetables while Nathaniel helped prepare them.
Inside the kitchen, Nathaniel Nathan quietly asked Vera, "How did they find this place?"
"I gave Mrs. Sullivan the address when I saw her before. I didn’t think they’d actually come, and I certainly didn’t expect it to be so soon," Vera said quietly. "Thank you for today."
"Don’t think a simple ’thank you’ will get you off the hook," Nathaniel snorted. "Vera, today was supposed to be our day together. Their arrival ruined everything. You have to make it up to me!"
Vera’s eyes darted around. Seeing that Winter Sullivan and Sheldon Caldwell weren’t looking their way, she boldly planted a kiss on his cheek. "Just play along today, okay? Please don’t be mad about this. They’re the only blood relatives I have in this world. Just do this for me, please?"
The second she used that soft tone, Nathaniel found he was completely powerless against her. He snorted softly and said, "Just this once. Don’t let it happen again."
