Chapter 701: Chapter 701: Happy Times (Part 1)

So, after Winter Sullivan was hospitalized for her injuries, Julian Caldwell confirmed they were only minor. As a result, he didn’t think much of it. On top of that, a foreign delegation was visiting for the past few days, and he was genuinely swamped.

Furthermore, Winter Sullivan had a history of working overtime at the research institute, sometimes not coming home for a week straight. Meanwhile, Susan Caldwell always knew how to wheedle her way into his heart. Since he doted on Susan, the moment he had some free time today, he went straight to Veridia University to see her.

But for Winter Sullivan, she had a vulnerable side deep down. Susan had truly broken her heart this time. She didn’t say anything, but she secretly hoped Julian would visit her in the hospital a few more times. She also wished he would be the one to pick her up when she was discharged.

Sheldon Caldwell put an arm around her shoulder. "Mom, even if Dad doesn’t show, you still have me! Aren’t you proud to have such a sensible and considerate son?"

Winter Sullivan glanced sideways at him. "I’m not seeing what’s so great about you yet. But at least you have a heart. I suppose giving birth to you wasn’t a complete waste."

Sheldon Caldwell smiled. "I’ve always had a heart. To me, you’re the best mom in the world. Come on, let’s go home!"

"Has Susan been causing you any trouble at school?" Winter Sullivan asked.

Sheldon Caldwell laughed. "Who do you think your son is? How would she dare cause trouble right under my nose? That said, she hasn’t exactly been having an easy time lately. For the upcoming military training review, I’m planning to have our Veridia University students compete against students from a regular military academy, so I’ve been selecting some outstanding participants."

"And as it turns out, both Susan and Vera Xavier were selected. Vera has already thrashed Susan several times in the past few days."

Ever since Vera Xavier and Susan Caldwell were assigned to the same squad, things have been eventful. After giving Susan a brutal beating on the very first day, Vera has found herself, intentionally or not, constantly pitted against her. And basically, every single time, Vera has utterly crushed Susan.

Sheldon Caldwell had set the training rules himself, so even though he watched Vera beat Susan badly, he never said a word to stop it.

Winter Sullivan was a little surprised. "Susan may be spoiled by her father, but she knows basic combat skills. Most girls wouldn’t be a match for her. You’re saying she actually can’t beat Vera?"

"Mom, you haven’t seen Vera when she gets serious," Sheldon said with a slight smirk. "I have no idea where she learned to fight like that. Forget one Susan—ten Susans probably wouldn’t be a match for her."

Winter Sullivan paused in surprise. "Is that so? Well, that’s good. It’ll keep Susan from thinking she’s invincible. It’s about time Vera taught her a lesson and showed her there’s always someone better out there."

Sheldon looked at her. "Mom, anyone who didn’t know better would think Vera is your daughter! If Susan heard you say that, she’d throw another crying fit!"

Winter Sullivan said dismissively, "It doesn’t matter that she’s not here. I’d say the same thing even if she were standing right in front of me! I wish Vera were my daughter! To this day, I still can’t understand how I ended up with a daughter like Susan."

Although Sheldon agreed—’he’d much rather have Vera as a sister than Susan’—it wasn’t like he had a choice in the matter.

Just then, another thought occurred to him. Vera had the day off, and so did Nathaniel Nathan. The two of them would definitely be at the new house they’d bought.
