Chapter 699: Chapter 699: Father and Daughter’s First Meeting (Part 5)
Julian Caldwell gave a slight nod. Susan Caldwell looked at Autumn Rhodes and asked, "Autumn, is that injury on your face from Vera Xavier?"
The moment Autumn Rhodes heard Susan, Vera’s words came to mind: ’Susan Caldwell wants to use me as a weapon against her.’
Susan’s question all but confirmed it. Autumn felt a surge of irritation, but then she saw Susan’s smiling face and glanced at Julian Caldwell standing beside her. A new plan began to form.
’Susan Caldwell comes from a family so powerful that Autumn knew she couldn’t afford to make an enemy of her. Besides, her own father had been trying to get a promotion for years with no luck. If she could forge a connection with the Caldwell family, so many things would become much simpler.’
So she sighed and said, "Yes, it was her. She’s an absolute demon."
After speaking, she feigned a look of fear, quickly covering her mouth with her hand. "Oh, no, it was nothing. I just... I bumped into something by accident. Since Vera isn’t here, I’ll be going."
With that, she immediately turned and left, taking the other girls with her.
As she was leaving, she glanced back at Susan Caldwell, who gave her a subtle nod. A flicker of smug satisfaction appeared in Autumn’s eyes as she raised an eyebrow.
She didn’t know why Susan was making these insinuations in front of Julian, but she was certain that siding with her was the right move. It was also her way of signaling to Susan that she would join her in dealing with Vera Xavier.
Julian Caldwell, who had been standing nearby and heard their exchange, frowned. After Autumn Rhodes left, he couldn’t help but ask, "That girl, she..."
"Vera Xavier stole Autumn’s boyfriend on the very first day of school," Susan Caldwell said with a sigh. "Autumn tried to confront her about it, and Vera just brazenly started making trouble for her on campus. I just never thought Vera would be so audacious as to actually hit Autumn right here at school. She’s really gone too far."
Julian Caldwell’s opinion of Vera Xavier soured even further upon hearing this. For a girl to so openly steal another’s boyfriend was an utterly scandalous affair in this day and age.
He had believed Susan’s words before, but he had thought Vera was merely a bit headstrong. Now, hearing this, it seemed she wasn’t just headstrong—her character was rotten to the core.
He said coldly, "This Vera Xavier has truly gone too far. How dare she be so brazen on school grounds! Come on, take me to your principal!"
"Dad!" Susan said pleadingly. "I’m afraid it won’t do any good, even if we go to the principal. If she just denies everything, there’s nothing we can do. Besides, Sheldon listens to everything she says these days. If we make a big scene, it’ll be embarrassing for him..."
’How could I dare take Julian to the principal?’ she thought. ’If we really go, Sheldon will definitely get dragged into it. The moment Vera and Sheldon are in the principal’s office together, my lies will be exposed.’
Julian Caldwell’s expression darkened. Susan added gently, "Dad, you always say that we of the younger generation should solve our own problems. No matter how brazen or manipulative Vera might be, it’s still a matter for us to handle. It wouldn’t be right for you to interfere, don’t you agree?"
She knew Julian all too well and always knew exactly which buttons to push. With this, she not only extricated herself from the situation but also seized the moral high ground.
