Chapter 698: Chapter 698: Father and Daughter’s First Meeting (4)

Julian Caldwell had wanted to put in a good word for Susan Caldwell with Winter Sullivan. But Winter’s temper was famously uncompromising; the moment he mentioned Susan’s name, she completely blew up.

So he had to drop it. Then, he heard from Susan that Vera Xavier had beaten her up. He was incredibly worried, so when he learned Susan wasn’t coming home this week, he rushed straight to the school to see her.

Julian Caldwell was a celebrity. Although he tried to be discreet, quite a few students still recognized him on his way over since he was on TV so often.

He couldn’t go up to the women’s dormitory, so he asked the dorm supervisor to call Susan Caldwell down.

Without even looking up, the dorm supervisor had another student go get her. Julian Caldwell had no choice but to wait downstairs.

About ten minutes later, Susan Caldwell finally came out of the dormitory. The moment she saw Julian Caldwell, her eyes grew red. "Dad, what are you doing here?" she asked.

"I came to see my Susan, of course," Julian Caldwell said with a smile.

At his words, tears instantly welled up in Susan’s eyes. Sniffling, she said, "Dad, my brother is bullying me!"

Julian Caldwell patted her head. "There, there, my dear daughter. Don’t cry. I’ll teach that little brat a lesson for you later."

Susan Caldwell wiped away her tears. Julian Caldwell continued, "Come on. I’ll take you out for a nice meal and we’ll buy you some pretty new clothes."

Satisfied, Susan Caldwell stopped crying and nodded.

Just as the father and daughter were about to leave, Autumn Rhodes walked over with a few other girls. She had been dealt a harsh lesson by Vera Xavier the previous night but didn’t dare make a scene about it. So, she decided to take all her anger out on Susan Caldwell instead.

She had come looking for Susan Caldwell to take her frustration out, but she hadn’t expected to run into her right at the entrance.

Due to her family background, Autumn Rhodes kept up with the news, so she recognized Julian Caldwell immediately. She froze for a second, taken aback.

Susan Caldwell was also a little surprised to see Autumn Rhodes. She smiled and greeted her, "Autumn, are you here to see Vera Xavier?"

Autumn Rhodes was smart. She laughed evasively. "Yeah, I have some business with her."

Unlike Susan, she didn’t have any miracle salves. The slap from Vera the night before was still clearly visible—a nasty black and blue bruise that made her otherwise pretty face look grotesque.

"Oh," Susan said. "I just passed by Vera’s room, and her roommates said she went out early this morning. She’s not on campus. Hey, Autumn, what happened to your face?"

Instead of answering, Autumn Rhodes deflected. "And this gentleman is...?"

"Oh, I forgot to introduce you. This is my dad," Susan Caldwell said with a smile, her gaze on Autumn Rhodes turning meaningful.

Autumn Rhodes had already suspected as much, but hearing Susan Caldwell confirm it made her heart clench. She’d heard rumors that Susan had powerful connections, but during military training, Susan hadn’t received any special treatment, so those rumors had gradually died down.

Autumn had also thought that if Susan really had such a powerful backer, she wouldn’t have been so passive all this time. That was why, after being humiliated by Vera yesterday, she’d decided to teach Susan a lesson today. She never expected to run into Julian Caldwell himself.

Autumn Rhodes quickly put on a smile and greeted him, "Hello, Mr. Caldwell."
