Chapter 696: Chapter 696: Father and Daughter’s First Meeting (Part 2)

But Autumn Rhodes was in agony and in no condition to go looking for trouble with Susan Caldwell, so she could only bear it for now.

Vera Xavier wasn’t worried about Autumn Rhodes at all. The next morning, she decided to head home. But just as she got downstairs, she saw Damian Yale waiting. She acted as if she hadn’t seen him and walked straight outside.

But Damian Yale called out to her. "Vera Xavier, we’re going to The Saffron Hills to see the autumn leaves. If you’re free today, why don’t you join us!"

"I’m busy," Vera Xavier refused flatly.

Damian Yale hadn’t expected such a blunt refusal, but he still smiled and said, "You’ve only been on campus for less than a month. What could you possibly have to do?"

"Whether I’m busy or not is my business. What’s it to you, senior?" Vera Xavier said with an indifferent expression.

Damian Yale was so taken aback by her retort he nearly choked. ’She doesn’t give me any face at all!’

Vera Xavier had always believed that when it came to romantic relationships, if you didn’t have feelings for someone, you should nip it in the bud and not give them any false hope.

With that said, she turned and walked away. Damian Yale’s brow furrowed. Watching her retreating back, he said, "Vera Xavier, has anyone ever told you that your way of speaking isn’t exactly endearing?"

"Nope!" Vera Xavier said without turning back. "Everyone around me tells me I’m refreshingly honest. I get close to the people I like and keep my distance from those I don’t. I live freely and true to myself."

Damian Yale was speechless.

’So I’m already in her ’dislike’ category, am I?’

He had always held himself in high regard. Approaching Vera Xavier like this was, in his mind, a huge concession, but it seemed she didn’t appreciate the gesture.

He raised an eyebrow slightly. Her personality was difficult, he thought, but that also made her exceptionally charming. He felt that winning over a girl like her would be an incredibly satisfying achievement.

If Vera Xavier had known that Damian Yale found her rejection "interesting," she probably wouldn’t have just walked away. She would have come back and given him a thrashing!

As Vera Xavier reached the school gate, a black sedan pulled up. She glanced over instinctively and saw Julian Caldwell stepping out of it.

She froze for a moment. Because of her rebirth, she had experienced many things she never had in her past life and met people she’d never seen before.

In her past life, she hadn’t met Julian Caldwell at this point. Their only encounter had been right before her death, after a major incident at the pharmaceutical factory. Julian, as a department head, had come to inspect the situation, and upon meeting her, he had mercilessly berated her without even trying to get the facts straight.

The memory was not a pleasant one for her. Still, from a professional standpoint, he hadn’t been wrong. After all, the mess she’d made back then had been a huge one.

In this life, however, this was her first time meeting Julian Caldwell. It wasn’t a formal introduction, just a chance encounter.

Even before this, her impression of Julian Caldwell hadn’t been very good. During her conflict with Susan Caldwell back at Trellis, Susan must have called Julian. More than likely, Julian had stepped in to rescue Susan.

The fact that Susan Caldwell could still act so arrogantly could only be because her confidence stemmed from Julian Caldwell. Vera knew this because she had a clear read on Winter Sullivan’s and Sheldon Caldwell’s attitudes.

She knew from her past life that Julian Caldwell doted terribly on Susan Caldwell, the only daughter of her generation in the Caldwell family, so it was no surprise to witness it again in this life.
