Chapter 692: Chapter 692: Hitting Back (4)
Autumn Rhodes sneered, "Vera Xavier, I doubt you’ll even be able to save yourself!"
"That’s my business, so you don’t have to worry about it." Vera Xavier’s lips curved into a slight smile. "If I wasn’t this capable, how would I dare to teach you a lesson? Am I right, Mr. Rhodes?"
Hearing her say that, Autumn Rhodes grew even more uncertain.
Autumn Rhodes couldn’t help but look toward Vera Xavier. Vera was smiling faintly, her usually pretty and delicate face now radiating with profound confidence. She gave off a slightly cold air, and her aura was powerful. Even though she was only half-squatting there, Autumn Rhodes felt immense pressure.
Autumn Rhodes suddenly recalled something. Among this year’s freshmen, Susan Caldwell was said to have the most powerful background. Yet, a few days ago, Vera Xavier had publicly thrashed Susan Caldwell, and Susan Caldwell couldn’t do a single thing to her. The head drill instructor didn’t get involved, and neither did the school’s administration.
For the first time, she became suspicious of Vera Xavier’s background. ’Could it be that Vera Xavier also has an incredibly distinguished background?’
Autumn Rhodes wasn’t stupid. Realizing this, she decided to test the waters. She looked at Vera Xavier and said, "If you’ve got the guts, then kill me today. Otherwise, I’ll go straight to the principal and have you all expelled!"
The other girls tensed up when they heard her words. They didn’t have any powerful connections. It had felt satisfying to beat up Autumn Rhodes, but if she made a big deal out of it and got them expelled, it would be a major disaster for them.
"Fine!" Vera Xavier nodded. "Go ahead and make a scene. I support you. As long as you’re not afraid of the humiliation."
Autumn Rhodes said coldly, "What humiliation do I have to fear?"
Vera Xavier’s lips curved into a smile. "Alright, let’s reconstruct the scene of you going to see the principal. You’ll say that I, along with seven sophomore and junior upperclassmen, beat you up. I doubt anyone would believe that. Let me break it down for you."
"I’m just a freshman. For the past two weeks since the semester began, I’ve had military training every single day, with basically no free time. So, pray tell, where would I have met these girls? And how would I have bribed them to beat you up?"
"Besides, what sort of grudge do we have that would make me need to hire people to attack you? You’d have to explain that grudge to the principal first. Otherwise, how could you possibly explain why I would want to beat you up?"
"And you know perfectly well what the real truth is. Why are they here? It’s because you set a trap to lure me over, intending for them to teach me a lesson and force me to keep my distance from Damian Yale—from Mr. Yale. The only reason you can order them around is because they’re terrified of your tactics and don’t dare to defy you."
"Tell me, if the truth about this got out, wouldn’t your carefully maintained image as the university’s ’Number One Talent’ come crashing down? The very people you called here to beat me up ended up turning on you and giving you a thrashing instead. Don’t you think the whole thing is a huge joke?"
Autumn Rhodes’s face turned utterly foul. She had no way to refute any of the points Vera Xavier had made. And from Vera’s current stance, it was clear she would pin the entire blame on her. Most importantly, this was a humiliation she absolutely could not afford.
For the past year at Veridia University, she had pretty much done as she pleased, reaping both fame and respect. Countless people had to tread carefully around her. Most importantly, if this incident really blew up, ’what would Damian Yale think of her?’
