Chapter 682: Chapter 682: Billing and Cooing (6)
Vera Xavier felt she had been perfectly clear with her hint, but Nathaniel Nathan’s reaction was still beyond her expectations.
The moment her words faded, she felt her body grow light, and then realized he had swept her up into his arms.
She froze, stunned. He, however, said calmly, "If you’re tired, just sleep in my arms."
Vera Xavier didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. ’Is he even thinking straight? How could I possibly fall asleep in his arms like this?’
’Besides, isn’t he tired?’
Nathaniel Nathan seemed to have guessed her thoughts and said coolly, "You’re so light, not an ounce of meat on you. It’s like holding a feather."
Vera Xavier: "..."
’She really wanted to correct him; even the biggest feather doesn’t weigh an ounce.’
’Besides, she wasn’t *that* skinny.’
Before she could speak, a faint hint of anger appeared on Nathaniel Nathan’s face. "You’ve lost weight. That bastard, Sheldon Caldwell... I really should have skinned him alive earlier!"
Vera Xavier was at a loss for words. Military training had gone on for over half a month, and it was genuinely intense. She had, in fact, lost a little weight.
She let out a soft yawn. She was truly exhausted and sleepy today. Being held by him like this... she wasn’t sure if it was because he gave her a sense of security, but a wave of drowsiness washed over her, and she genuinely felt like sleeping.
Seeing her like this, Nathaniel Nathan knew she hadn’t just been feigning tiredness to get out of it; she was genuinely exhausted. To him, her somewhat dazed expression was the height of temptation, yet here and now, there was nothing they could do.
He said, somewhat dissatisfied, "Vera Xavier, you still haven’t kissed me since we met up, and you haven’t said you missed me!"
"Oh." Vera Xavier was overcome with sleepiness, her reactions far slower than usual. Her brain had gone on strike; she didn’t even process the meaning of his words. Instead, she just snuggled into a more comfortable position in his arms, her small, porcelain-like face brushing gently against his chest.
She herself probably had no idea just how alluring that simple, gentle gesture was.
Nathaniel Nathan took a deep breath. He looked at Vera Xavier and said, "If you don’t kiss me, then I’m going to kiss you."
Vera Xavier let out a soft, hazy "Mmm," and Nathaniel Nathan lowered his head and pressed his lips to hers.
Vera Xavier sighed inwardly. ’So I can’t even get out of this by pretending to be asleep?’
’Oh well, it’s not like she minded being intimate with him. It’s just... this is a school! And a school in the early nineties, at that! Aren’t they being a little too... you know?’
Nathaniel Nathan had only intended it to be a light, fleeting kiss, but the moment his lips met hers, he found himself losing control.
Her lips were soft and tender, mingling with the faint, sweet scent that was uniquely hers. Tasting her sweetness, Nathaniel Nathan felt the self-control he was so proud of come crashing down.
The deep, lingering kiss, mingling with the dark of the night, seemed to create the most beautiful scene in the world.
His cool fingertips slid under her clothes. Lost in the haze of passion, she was suddenly jolted back to her senses. She reached out, grabbing his hand, and whispered against his lips, "We’re at school. Don’t mess around!"
Nathaniel Nathan stared at her. In the darkness, she felt as if his eyes were glowing, like those of a starving wolf that had just spotted its prey.
She felt inexplicably unnerved. With a light cough, she said, "I should get back!"
With that, she pulled her hand free and turned to leave, but he yanked her back. She whipped her head around to face him. It was pitch-black under the tree, but she could still feel the danger radiating from him. She suspected he might drag her into the nearby bushes the very next second and devour her completely!
