Chapter 640: Chapter 640: A Mother and Daughter’s Instinct (2)

"No, perhaps we met sometime when you returned to Crestfall," Vera Xavier said with a smile.

A faint note of helplessness had crept into her tone.

Winter Sullivan sighed. "I haven’t been back since I gave birth to Susan in Crestfall eighteen years ago. You probably hadn’t even been born yet, had you?"

She wasn’t the type to warm up to people easily. Almost no one had ever made her feel an instant sense of kinship, but every time she saw Vera Xavier, that’s exactly what she felt.

Vera Xavier hadn’t expected her to have stayed away from Crestfall for so many years. A little surprised, she smiled again. "I was born on April 20th. As long as you were still in Crestfall after that date, it’s possible we might have met."

"You were born on April 20th, too?" Winter Sullivan asked, her curiosity piqued. "That’s the very day I gave birth to Susan at Crestfall’s First Municipal Hospital."

"Oh, that’s an even bigger coincidence," Vera Xavier said with a laugh. "My mom told me I was born at the First Municipal Hospital, too."

"Such a coincidence!" Genuine surprise filled Winter Sullivan’s eyes.

She didn’t think too much of it at that moment, only that the whole thing was incredibly coincidental.

Vera Xavier looked at her startled expression, an indescribable feeling welling up inside her. ’I can’t just rush over and shout, ’Mom, I’m your real daughter!’ right now.’

’First, I’ll plant a seed in Winter Sullivan’s mind. Then I’ll see how things develop. At least for now, we don’t dislike each other.’

Vera Xavier smiled and said, "Maybe this is what they call fate."

"I never used to believe in fate, but since meeting you, I feel like it must exist," Winter Sullivan remarked. "If you’re free sometime, you should come to my home and chat with me. You’re with Nathaniel Nathan, right? Have you been to the Nathan Family’s home yet?"

Vera Xavier nodded. Winter Sullivan gave a faint smile. "Brooke Mitchell can be a bit dramatic, but you don’t have to pay her any mind. As long as Nathaniel Nathan treats you well, that’s all that matters."

A hint of bitterness crept into her voice as she finished.

Vera Xavier already knew the Caldwell Family lived in the compound as well. Hearing Winter Sullivan’s words now, she was a little surprised. Judging by her tone, it seemed Winter Sullivan and Brooke Mitchell didn’t get along.

But on second thought, it made sense. Winter Sullivan was a renowned weapons expert, while Brooke Mitchell was a painter with a scholarly air. Their auras were completely different.

Fundamentally, Winter Sullivan was an iron lady with a backbone of steel, while Brooke Mitchell was a gentle, beautiful, and dignified matriarch. Both were outstanding, yet they were polar opposites. It would be strange if they actually got along.

Vera Xavier felt that in her current position, it wasn’t her place to respond. However, it gave her a glimpse into her own birth mother’s personality. So, she simply smiled and said, "Thank you, Ma’am."

After she spoke, Winter Sullivan also felt her comment had been a bit inappropriate. She was just used to dealing with blunt, straightforward military types. She felt a connection with Vera Xavier and had simply spoken her mind.

Afraid Vera Xavier might read too much into it, she cleared her throat and added, "I’m worrying for nothing. For a wonderful girl like you, I doubt any elder could dislike you."

The comment felt like she was over-explaining. The moment the words left her mouth, she regretted it. She was usually a woman of few words and had never felt like this before.
