Several of the girls jumped, startled. What did he mean by making them step forward at a time like this? Their hearts filled with apprehension.
Vera Xavier thought about his rather unreliable ways and cursed silently. ’Am I getting dragged down with them?’
Sheldon Caldwell said, his face cold, "I already explained during the opening assembly that this training will be conducted with the rigor of military standards. I specifically emphasized that talking is forbidden. All of you just broke that rule. Now, run ten laps around the field!"
Vera Xavier spoke up loudly, "Reporting to the Chief Instructor, I didn’t say anything!"
"So you’re saying I was mistaken?" Sheldon Caldwell asked, staring at her.
His gaze was sharp, but Vera Xavier wasn’t the least bit afraid. She replied with perfect composure, "There are a lot of people. It’s perfectly normal for you to make a mistake. None of us will laugh at you."
The girls behind her chuckled softly.
Sheldon Caldwell ground his teeth. ’This little vixen has some nerve.’ He snorted coldly. "Is that so? Well then, let me teach you another lesson. During this training, your one and only duty is to obey. No one is permitted to question my words. And to make sure all of you remember that principle, I hereby announce that every student participating in this training will start by running ten laps!"
A collective groan of misery immediately rose from the crowd.
Vera Xavier cursed inwardly, ’Damn it.’ ’Is this bastard trying to paint a target on my back?’
If it were just the few of them being punished, ten laps would have been manageable. But now, because of her one comment, he was making the entire freshman class suffer. She was already catching enough heat for getting perfect scores on all her exams; he was just fanning the flames and making her a bigger target.
Worse, this was happening in front of the entire freshman class. She was sure they would all hold this against her from now on.
At that moment, she even began to suspect that Susan Caldwell had put him up to this, that he was deliberately trying to mess with her. The very next moment, however, she discovered she was wrong.
Because his large hand pointed at a snickering Susan Caldwell. "You! Step forward!"
Susan Caldwell didn’t seem afraid of him, stepping forward with a smile. He said coldly, "Now for the second principle. During this training, you are all one unit. As a unit, when one person is punished, it’s as if you were all punished. You were just mocking your fellow student. That shows a lack of solidarity, which is a major taboo. I’m adding another ten laps to your punishment!"
Susan Caldwell’s expression changed. She couldn’t help but say, "Brother—"
"Here, there are only instructors and students. No other relationships exist. I can understand a pretty girl trying to use her connections, but I don’t fall for that sort of thing!" Sheldon Caldwell said coldly. "Behavior like yours is a sign of an improper Heart Skill. Add another ten laps!"
This time, no one dared to laugh. Nor did anyone dare to have designs on Sheldon Caldwell any longer. This handsome instructor, it turned out, was someone who didn’t know how to go easy on a pretty face.
Vera Xavier and Susan Caldwell’s looks were the most outstanding among the freshmen, but Sheldon Caldwell was completely unmoved. When he handed out punishments, he was simply inhumane!

Susan Caldwell looked like she wanted to say more, but when she saw his cold, severe expression, she couldn’t get a single word out.
