Internally, Susan Caldwell was seething, but she forced a smile and said, "We’re all classmates here. Our goal is to study hard, not to compete with each other. I’ve always believed there’s always someone better out there."
Her words immediately won the approval and support of the other girls.

Because of this, she spent the whole night plotting ways to deal with Vera Xavier. She had previously thought her secret weapon, Shane Caldwell, would be enough, but now she felt it wasn’t.
She couldn’t stand the fact that the school administration hadn’t chosen her as the freshman representative from the start. Although she was quite pleased with herself for snatching the spot from Vera Xavier, the fact that she wasn’t the original choice still left her unhappy.
And on her very first day at the university, she had already heard classmates all around her discussing Vera Xavier, filled with curiosity about her. This meant that before classes had even officially begun, Vera Xavier was already the talk of the campus.
With her petty nature, this was something Susan Caldwell could not tolerate.
Her mind was racing with so many thoughts that she didn’t sleep well that night.
As a result, when the bell rang to wake everyone up the next morning, she felt so exhausted that she didn’t want to get out of bed. But she knew it was the first day of the semester, and she absolutely could not be late.
Most importantly, she was fiercely determined; she absolutely refused to be outdone by Vera Xavier.
She forced herself out of bed and saw that she had huge dark circles under her eyes. As someone who always demanded perfection, she would never allow herself to go out with dark circles. She immediately took out her compact powder to cover them up.
Because of the delay, she was a little late, arriving at the athletic field just in the nick of time.
Today was the first official day of the semester, as well as the first day of military training. All the students, dressed in their military training uniforms, were gathered on the large athletic field.
As was customary, the school’s leadership would speak first, followed by a welcoming speech from an upperclassman representative, and finally, a speech from the freshman representative.
From Vera Xavier’s perspective, these kinds of speeches weren’t anything to look forward to, so she just sat there properly behaved, clapping when everyone else clapped.
When it was Susan Caldwell’s turn to go on stage, a small stir went through the students.
Vera Xavier glanced at Susan Caldwell on the stage. Even though she was also wearing the military uniform, she was already quite attractive and possessed a refined air about her, so it was only natural that she would draw admiring gazes.
Susan Caldwell’s speech was merely conventional, but as she was coming down from the stage, she swept a glance over Vera Xavier, her chin slightly raised, the provocation in her eyes obvious.
Vera Xavier merely smiled at the petty gesture. To be honest, she was actually quite looking forward to whatever Susan Caldwell would do next. After all, the two of them had been on opposing sides from the very beginning; it was no exaggeration to describe their rivalry as a fight to the death.
