Chapter 570: Chapter 570: Pillow Talk (4)
"She’s perfect in every way." Nathaniel Nathan glanced toward the study. "If you’re judging by conventional standards, then she has a great personality and a good temper. She’s smart, ambitious, and eager to learn. She’s gentle and polite with everyone. The only thing you might hold against her is probably that she grew up in Crestfall."
"But who’s to say Crestfall can’t produce talented people? Don’t forget, our Nathan Family ancestors were all from Crestfall."
When you thought about it, the Nathan Family’s roots were actually in Crestfall.
Beckett Nathan had no objection to Nathaniel’s last statement, but he clearly disagreed with the first part. ’If Vera Xavier really had a good temper, she wouldn’t have poured a drink all over that girl from the Caldwell Family.’
’Oh well. His son was head over heels in love; he saw nothing but perfection in Vera Xavier.’
Just then, a sharp CRASH came from the study, as if something had fallen to the floor.
Nathaniel Nathan immediately shot up and rushed toward the study. Beckett Nathan watched him, his heart full of scorn. ’So much for being calm, huh? They aren’t even married yet, and this brat is already a nervous wreck! It’s true what they say, once a son grows up, he’s out of his father’s hands!’
When Nathaniel Nathan rushed into the study, he froze for a moment at the sight of the shattered vase on the floor. Based on where Vera Xavier and Brooke Mitchell were standing, he could instantly tell that his mother had obviously been the one to break it.
A sheet of paper on the table concealed a painting, so he couldn’t see what Vera Xavier had drawn.
Brooke Mitchell’s expression wasn’t pleasant, but she was relatively composed. She cleared her throat and told him, "Go get a broom. Be careful you don’t cut your feet."
Nathaniel Nathan looked over at Vera Xavier, who gave him a little shrug.
Seeing her unfazed expression, it was clear she hadn’t been bullied by his mother. He relaxed and turned to find a broom.
Beckett Nathan walked over just then and asked, "What happened?"
Brooke Mitchell smiled and said, "It’s nothing. I just accidentally knocked over a vase, that’s all. We’ll just have to buy another one."
Beckett Nathan looked at Brooke Mitchell, a hint of surprise in his eyes. ’That small vase is her favorite. Normally, she won’t even let me touch it, but now that it’s shattered, she hasn’t said a word.’
’This is a little strange.’
Beckett Nathan was a sharp man, so he didn’t press the issue.
Right at that moment, the housekeeper announced that dinner was ready and came to call them to the dining room.
Brooke Mitchell said with a smile, "Dinner’s ready, let’s eat."
Beckett Nathan smiled as well, telling Nathaniel Nathan to take Vera Xavier to wash her hands before they ate.
Once they were in the restroom, Nathaniel Nathan asked Vera Xavier, "What happened in the study earlier?"
"Not much." Vera Xavier arched an eyebrow. "I just let your mother get a taste of what I can do."
Nathaniel Nathan just looked at her, saying nothing. ’He knew his mother’s personality. Brooke Mitchell wasn’t the type to be silenced just because someone showed off their skills. In fact, if someone really ticked her off, she was more likely to fly into a rage on the spot and then forbid Vera Xavier from ever setting foot in their home again.’
’But that clearly wasn’t what happened here.’
Vera Xavier chuckled and explained, "Your mother asked me to do a simple sketch, so I casually drew a picture of a chick pecking at grain. She wouldn’t let it go, insisting I had some underlying artistic talent. She demanded I paint a landscape, and when I said I couldn’t, she pulled out Master Kieran Lawson’s *Jungle Dyeing Map* for me to copy."
"Master Lawson’s painting was created with extremely precious pigments. How could I ever replicate that stunning effect using just ordinary paints? So... I just went ahead and painted it using only green paint."
