Just then, Nathaniel Nathan placed the slippers he was wearing in front of Vera Xavier. "We don’t get many guests, so my mom didn’t have time to prepare any slippers for you. Wear mine for now. Girls shouldn’t let their feet get cold. I’m a man, so a little chill won’t bother me."
Before Vera Xavier could even clear her throat to respond, Brooke Mitchell spoke up. "Silly me, I completely forgot about slippers. Yours are so big, she’ll trip if she wears them."
With that, she walked over, opened the shoe cabinet, and began rummaging for slippers with her back to them.

Vera thanked him and sat down on the sofa with Nathaniel.
Once they were seated, Nathaniel formally introduced Vera. "Dad, Mom, this is Vera Xavier. I’ve told you about her before. I love her, and I want to marry her."
