Chapter 546: Chapter 546: Meeting the Parents (4)
Vera Xavier was familiar with Nathaniel Nathan’s way of speaking, so she wasn’t too surprised by his words. Getting him to praise her to her face was next to impossible. So she smiled and said, "Is that so? Well then, Nathaniel Nathan, I’ll work on becoming more and more worthy of you."
Nathaniel Nathan gave a faint smile, led her out of the villa, and went straight to the People’s Department Store.
Vera Xavier asked curiously, "Are your parents here? Aren’t we going straight to your home?"
Nathaniel Nathan’s tone was flat. "Vera Xavier, I have some good news for you. Try not to get too excited."
Vera Xavier looked at him, puzzled. ’What good news could he possibly have for me right now?’
Then she heard him say, "Actually, I never arranged to meet my parents. I wasn’t planning on taking you to see them today. Everything I said last night was just to tease you."
Vera Xavier’s eyes went wide as saucers. ’I really want to curse him out!
How is this good news in any way? He’s clearly just messing with me! How could someone so cool and aloof act so childishly?’
But Nathaniel Nathan continued speaking with a completely straight face. "I noticed last time that you were very scared of this, so I figured I should help you build up your nerve. I decided to give you a little scare. After we practice a few more times, you won’t be afraid anymore when you actually have to meet them."
In reality, he knew perfectly well that now wasn’t the best time to take her to meet his parents, so there was no rush. It was just a rare chance to see her looking so nervous, and he couldn’t resist teasing her a bit.
At this point, Vera Xavier didn’t know whether to be angry or amused. ’That bastard!’
She took a deep breath and said, "Well, thank you so much!"
"Don’t mention it." Nathaniel Nathan’s tone remained placid. "We’re practically family. No need to be so polite."
Vera Xavier: "..."
Nathaniel Nathan looked at her and said, "So, don’t you think your outfit is perfectly appropriate now?"
Vera Xavier gritted her teeth. ’I dressed entirely based on his preferences today. Since it was what he liked, how could it possibly be inappropriate?’
’And another thing, does this bastard really think it’s funny to keep crying wolf like this?’
By now, she had also realized he liked it when she wore her long hair down and dressed in long skirts. There was nothing particularly wrong with his aesthetic taste; the problem was that she had never considered herself a "lady."
’I really want to punch him! But the moment I remember what he looked like beating up those people on the train, I instantly chicken out.’
’But I have to show my displeasure somehow, right? Otherwise, won’t he just walk all over me from now on?’
So she let out a small huff and ignored him. He just chuckled, clearly delighted.
He found that teasing her once in a while was actually quite fun. The two of them were already exceptionally attractive, so seeing them shopping together was quite a sight.
Nathaniel Nathan had been in a good mood, but it quickly soured when he noticed that every guy who passed by would sneak glances at Vera Xavier.
He could have tolerated the secret glances, but then he saw that Vera Xavier would smile back at every guy who looked her way—impeccably polite. As a result, even more people started stealing glances at her.
Nathaniel Nathan felt this was intolerable. After Vera Xavier smiled at a guy for the one-hundred-and-first time, he said coldly, "Vera Xavier, are you tired of living? Flirting with men right in front of me like this?"
