Chapter 528: Chapter 528: Mother and Daughter’s First Meeting (2)
Someone chuckled and said to Autumn Rhodes, "Vice President, I think this Xavier girl is here to steal your thunder."
"What do you mean, ’steal my thunder’?" Autumn Rhodes said coolly. "Veridia University has no shortage of talented people. Besides, getting a good score on the entrance exams doesn’t mean you’ll keep getting good grades."
Her words were catty, but they were also true. Everyone knew that Veridia University gathered the best students from across the country. This meant that future competition would be among this elite group, and the difficulty would skyrocket.
Vera Xavier smiled and said, "That’s right. Which is why I’ll be counting on all the upperclassmen for their guidance."
Autumn Rhodes had expected Vera to talk back, given her earlier tone. If she had, Autumn had a trap ready to spring. She never thought Vera Xavier would actually just back down!
Though it was her first time meeting Vera Xavier, she had a feeling she’d just met the toughest rival of her life. The girl was as slippery as an eel.
So, she gave a faint smile. "Don’t worry. I’ll be sure to teach you well from now on."
The boys standing nearby exchanged glances. They knew what Autumn Rhodes was like—proud, capricious, and a bit domineering. She couldn’t stand other girls outshining her.
They wondered how Vera Xavier had managed to offend her so quickly. Had she really just thrown down the gauntlet?
Or had Vera Xavier’s perfect score and stunning looks been enough to provoke Autumn Rhodes from the very beginning?
The boys silently broke out in a cold sweat for Vera Xavier. Offending Autumn Rhodes was never a pleasant affair.
Once, Autumn Rhodes had gotten into a dispute with another girl over something. In the end, Autumn had actually forced the girl to apologize publicly, and ever since, that girl would duck for cover whenever she saw Autumn.
Vera Xavier’s expression remained placid. "Teach me? Senior, are you mistaken about something? You’re not a professor here. What right do you have to teach me?"
Of course, she knew Autumn Rhodes meant to ’teach her a lesson about life.’ ’But having lived two lifetimes,’ she thought, ’I really don’t need a child to teach me how to behave.’
’This girl really has a bad temper!’
She noticed Autumn Rhodes stealing glances at Damian Yale while she spoke. What else was there to misunderstand?
Autumn Rhodes felt her authority had been challenged. She raised an eyebrow. "The Master said, ’When three people walk together, one of them is bound to be my teacher.’ What you just said wasn’t quite right, was it, Xavier?"
Vera Xavier covered her ears. "In my last year of high school, my teachers made me memorize classical texts every single day. I finally made it to university, so please, let a student rest for a few days! Don’t recite the words of the sages in front of me. It gives me a headache!"
A few of the boys laughed again. Connor Kander stepped in to smooth things over. "Xavier, you just got to campus. You must be exhausted from your long journey. There are still a lot of underclassmen behind you, so why don’t you head back to your dorm and rest?"
By this point, Vera Xavier’s registration was nearly complete anyway. She smiled, nodded, and picked up the stack of documents, ready to head to her dorm.
When she went to grab her small cart, she saw Damian Yale was already holding it for her. Seeing her look over, he said calmly, "You’re new and don’t know the campus yet. I’ll walk you to your dorm."
Vera Xavier raised an eyebrow slightly but remained polite. "You’re the Student Council President, Senior. You must be very busy with the welcome activities today. There are signs pointing to the dorms, so I can find my way. I won’t trouble you."
