So, Vera Xavier averted her gaze and, with perfect composure, picked up the materials to register her information.
As she picked up her pen, Connor Kander asked with a wide grin, "What’s your name?"
Vera Xavier figured she ought to be polite, since it was her first day of registration. After all, she would be spending four years at the best university in the country. So, while filling out her forms, she answered, "Vera Xavier."
"Vera Xavier, huh? Nice name." Connor Kander paused after speaking, then his eyes widened in utter shock. He stared at her and asked, "What did you just say? What was your name again?"
Vera Xavier thought, ’This upperclassman seems a bit slow. He just said my name, but he’s asking for it again.’ So she showed him the completed form. "Vera Xavier."
Connor Kander and the boys behind him stared at her in utter disbelief. One of them stammered, "You... you’re... *the* Vera Xavier?"
Vera Xavier found their expressions a bit odd. She smiled and said, "Is something wrong?"
The group of boys instantly erupted. "Damn, she’s actually Vera Xavier? I thought she was supposed to be a dork!"
"Maybe it’s just someone with the same name. Quick, check how many new students are named Vera Xavier!"
"Holy crap, don’t tell me she’s really that monster!"
"If she’s *the* Vera Xavier, the other girls don’t stand a chance."
The boys chattered all at once—some flipping through the student roster, others searching for her file. They were all scrambling, their eyes wide with astonishment.
Seeing them act like this, Vera Xavier silently gave them a low score. ’So this is the caliber of guys at the best university in the country?’
Before arriving, she had wondered what college guys would be like and if they’d be more mature than high schoolers. It seemed they were all pretty much the same. She no longer had a shred of expectation for the men of Veridia University. Her Nathaniel Nathan was still the best.
She tilted her head slightly, watching them with a calm expression as she handed the rest of her documents to the faculty member to process her registration.
The faculty member smiled and said, "I can’t blame them for being surprised. Even I was shocked when I saw you. Young lady, you’re going to be our school’s next student to embody both beauty and brains, right after Autumn Rhodes."
Vera Xavier began to understand. Her exam scores were probably so outstanding that everyone had been speculating about what kind of person she was.
The common perception was that girls who excelled academically were either a little plain or a little dorky, and she didn’t seem to be either.
As for this Autumn Rhodes, she had no idea who that was.
So she said lightly, "In that case, doesn’t this mean I can help redeem the reputation of studious girls?"
The faculty member froze for a second, then burst out laughing.
Damian Yale had been about to leave when he heard shouts of surprise from where Connor Kander was. He thought he’d vaguely heard the name Vera Xavier, so he turned to look and saw a few freshmen registering at the reception desk.
So he walked over and asked, "Is Vera Xavier here? Which one is she?"
Vera Xavier turned her head and glanced at him. Recognizing him as the rude guy who had stared at her earlier, she couldn’t be bothered to answer.
She didn’t answer, but Connor Kander pointed at her and replied for her, "She’s Vera Xavier."
He was thrilled. After all these years, the university had finally admitted a student with a perfect score in every subject—and not only was she a girl, but an incredibly beautiful one at that!
