Chapter 522: Chapter 522: Forceful Face-Slapping (4)
As soon as Sheldon Caldwell came home, Susan Caldwell called out happily, "Sheldon, you’re back!"
At her shout, Julian Caldwell lowered his newspaper. "You were gone on that mission for two months. You’re as dark as charcoal."
Winter Sullivan, having just finished a phone call, chimed in, "What’s wrong with a boy getting a little tan? It makes him look more masculine. Don’t you remember being the same way when you came back from your missions back in the day?"
Sheldon knew Julian and Winter had their reservations about him joining a security company, so he quickly said, "Exactly! You have no idea—when I’m out working, tons of young girls are into me!"
Winter Sullivan scoffed. "Sheldon, I don’t mind you dating, but don’t you go toying with young girls out there."
Then, as if a thought struck her, she added, "You know, you really are old enough to be dating. I’ll keep an eye out for someone for you."
Sheldon had only been joking around and wasn’t actually looking for a relationship, so he quickly changed the subject. "Mom, I’m starving! You have no idea how much I craved your homemade sweet-and-sour pork ribs while I was on my mission. My mouth waters just thinking about them."
Winter Sullivan’s attention was instantly diverted, and she told the housekeeper to go buy pork ribs right away.
Her cooking skills were average, but for some reason, she made exceptionally good sweet-and-sour pork ribs.
Watching Winter Sullivan fuss over Sheldon, Susan bit her lip. ’In this family, Sheldon is the only one Mom truly cares about.’ She was both jealous and envious.
So, she said with a smile, "Sheldon, I got into the School of Humanities at Veridia University as the city’s top scorer. Why don’t you come with me to register tomorrow?"
Sheldon laughed. "You’re a big girl now. You can just go register by yourself!"
Susan pouted. "But I was the top scorer in Veridia! I won’t embarrass you. All the other students will have family with them, and Mom and Dad have to work tomorrow. If you don’t go with me, I’ll be all by myself. It’s so pitiful. How can you be so heartless?"
Ever since the incident with Trellis, she had been on her best behavior. Although she still went out shopping with her friends every day, she never stayed out long. She seemed to have matured a bit.
As the minister of a government department, Julian Caldwell was often in the newspapers, so an event like university registration was indeed not a suitable place for him. His presence would undoubtedly attract unwanted trouble.
Although he doted on Susan, he didn’t want her to enjoy such special privileges at school. It was better to keep a low profile when necessary.
Susan knew this, which was why she had been smart enough not to ask Julian to take her.
Julian was reassured by her thoughtfulness.
Sheldon laughed. "What’s so heartless about it? You didn’t come with me when I started university."
"I was just a kid back then!" Susan grabbed his arm and shook it. "I don’t want to go with no one from the family sending me off. Besides, don’t you have the day off tomorrow?"
Sheldon hadn’t actually said he wouldn’t go. He just wasn’t used to her acting this way. His sister wasn’t usually the type to be so clingy and cute.
He cleared his throat, just about to agree, when Winter Sullivan, who had been silent the whole time, suddenly cut in. "I’ll take you tomorrow."
