Nathaniel Nathan thought, ’In that case, to get her to hug me and kiss me a little longer in the future, I guess I’ll have to start saying more sweet things to her.’
He wasn’t very good at sweet talk, but he could learn.
For her, he was willing to try things he had never done before.
Just then, Shane Caldwell happened to walk by. He had intended to sneak a glance at Vera Xavier, but instead, he saw her locked in an embrace with Nathaniel Nathan.
Shane Caldwell’s already wounded heart felt like it had just taken another critical hit. No, that wasn’t right—it felt like someone had driven a knife straight into his chest!
He felt incredibly wronged. Vera Xavier had always been so cold to him; she had never hugged him like that.
More importantly, she had never given him the chance.
He stumbled back to his seat in a daze. For the first time, he wondered if he should just give up on pursuing Vera Xavier, but he dismissed the thought as soon as it surfaced.
The reason was simple: once you’ve seen the best, you’re unwilling to settle for anything less.
He was a Caldwell. No matter how great the setbacks in his pursuit of Vera Xavier, no matter how powerful his rival, he couldn’t give up! He knew with absolute certainty that he would probably never be able to fall for another girl.
Nathaniel Nathan, of course, had noticed Shane Caldwell walk past them and then retreat, looking utterly crestfallen. He didn’t pay his rival much mind, as Vera Xavier showed no interest in Shane whatsoever.
Still, he had to be on his guard. He wouldn’t pass up any opportunity to deal a blow to Shane Caldwell. He wanted to make it crystal clear to the other man that even if Shane gave it his all, he would never have a chance of surpassing him in this lifetime.
Ever since the encounter with the thugs, Shane Caldwell hadn’t approached Vera Xavier again.
And although Vera Xavier had sat next to Shane Caldwell for a while, they had never really been close.
Besides, with a jealous boyfriend like Nathaniel Nathan around, she was perfectly content with Shane not coming over to stir up trouble.
Thus, the three of them arrived in Veridia without any further incident. After they got off the train, Shane Caldwell didn’t say a word to Vera Xavier, simply slinging his luggage over his shoulder and leaving.
Vera Xavier was relieved to see Shane being so tactful.
By now, Shane Caldwell had calmed down. He knew that until he was more capable, he needed to focus on improving himself. Otherwise, challenging Nathaniel Nathan would just be asking for humiliation.
He had been accepted into Veridia University and was considered a top student in the eyes of others. But in front of Nathaniel Nathan, he didn’t measure up at all. Whether it was academics or fighting, he fell short by more than just a little.
That was why he needed to focus completely on improving himself, without any distractions!
It was the beginning of the school year, and Vera Xavier had originally planned to head straight to the university to register.
Nathaniel Nathan, however, had other plans. ’My girl is finally here in Veridia,’ he thought. ’There’s no way I’m actually keeping that promise to live separately from her. Of course we have to live together now!’
And so, in the plaza outside the train station, Vera Xavier saw Ronan Tate, whom she hadn’t seen in some time. He came over, helped them with their luggage, placed it in the car, and then drove them to Nathaniel Nathan’s private villa in Veridia.
Nathaniel Nathan’s villa wasn’t too far from Veridia University. It was only about a ten-minute walk from the villa to the university’s main gate.
