Chapter 492: His Care (6)
Chapter 492: Chapter 492: His Care (6)
A man’s rough voice rang out, "Taking your money is a compliment. Let go now, or I’ll chop off your hand!"
This was followed by a woman’s piercing screams and sobs, mixed with a child’s cries.
The already tense atmosphere in the carriage immediately became even more strained.
People traveling far from home tend to be more timid than usual. Their first instinct is to avoid making waves and just protect themselves.
But the robbers preyed on this very weakness. They knew the passengers wouldn’t fight back easily. Besides, there were many of them, all big and burly. Their intimidating looks alone were usually enough. That was why they’d been so successful for all these years.
Vera Xavier’s brow furrowed. ’This group of scumbags! They won’t even spare a child!’
They were obviously professionals at this, extremely practiced. Vera Xavier began to wonder how to deal with them, but she was well aware of her own limitations. She didn’t have the skills for it. However, there was one person here who did.
She turned her head toward Nathaniel Nathan, only to see he had already taken out a brick phone and dialed a number. He said a few words, gave the name of a station, and then put the phone down.
Just then, the man who had hit Shane Caldwell saw the brick phone in his hand, and his eyes lit up. "Well, well, looks like we’ve got a big fish here. Hey, buddy, let me borrow that phone for a second!"
Though he said it like a request, his hand was already reaching out, poised to snatch the brick phone from Nathaniel Nathan’s grasp.
Nathaniel Nathan said nothing. With a swift twist and pull of the man’s arm, he slammed the robber’s head directly into the glass window, knocking him out cold.
When a nearby accomplice saw the first man hadn’t returned, he came over to check. The moment he poked his head in, Nathaniel Nathan dragged him inside and knocked him unconscious with a single punch.
He had taken out two men in quick succession without letting either of them make a sound. The four people on the bunk above Vera Xavier and Nathaniel Nathan were completely dumbfounded.
Nathaniel Nathan picked up a steel pipe and said to Vera Xavier, "Watch closely. I’m only going to teach you this once."
Vera Xavier froze for a second. It took her a long moment to realize what he meant. ’Back when Jack Judd and his goons cornered me, I asked him to teach me how to fight, but he refused. So... he’s going to teach me now?’
Before she could fully process it, she saw Nathaniel Nathan stride out. A man blocked his path, yelling, "Get back in there!"
The man was about to make a move, but Nathaniel Nathan was much faster. He brought the steel pipe in his hand down on the man’s head. The man only had time for one last look before collapsing heavily to the floor, unconscious.
Seeing Nathaniel Nathan attack, the man’s accomplices immediately lunged at him.
Then Vera Xavier witnessed a scene she would never forget for the rest of her life. Mr. Nathan—who was a bit cold in public, a bit of a rogue with her, and seemed to have a refined, scholarly air most of the time—unleashed his absolute, overwhelming combat prowess.
She watched as he walked forward through the carriage with the steel pipe. Not a single robber who came face-to-face with him was left standing.
The robbers all wore savage, twisted expressions, but he remained perfectly calm throughout.
The steel pipe in his hand was like a monk’s mallet, and the ferocious robbers became like the temple’s wooden fish. Before him, they all seemed to stand there, dazed and foolish, simply waiting for him to strike.
In his wake, he left a trail of fallen robbers.
