Nathaniel let out a soft huff. Resigned, Vera had no choice but to wrap her arms around his neck and peck him on the lips. Just as she started to pull away, he suddenly cupped the back of her head and deepened the kiss.
’We’ve only been apart for half a day,’ Nathaniel marveled inwardly. ’How can I miss her this much?’
After a long moment, he finally let her go. "What is it?"
He knew how to prioritize. His wife was fiercely independent and rarely came to him for help. Chances are, something had happened with the Preston Family again.
Vera saw that he had clearly gotten aroused during their kiss. The desire in his eyes had been obvious, yet now he was back to his cold, all-business demeanor.
She pursed her lips slightly and said, "I need four hundred thousand in counterfeit money. If you don’t have that much, Training Vouchers will do."
Nathaniel immediately understood what she was planning. He pulled a bag out from under his desk and handed it to her. "I already have it ready for you."
Vera stared at him, dumbfounded. She opened the bag and saw it was filled entirely with Training Vouchers. ’How did he know I would need these?’
Nathaniel was very satisfied with her expression. In a level voice, he explained, "If you use counterfeit money, someone with Cara Preston’s cunning would definitely manage to spend some of it. Even if the police eventually caught her, it would still disrupt the market and harm innocent people. So, while counterfeit money might have the strongest effect, it’s too risky. It’s better to use Training Vouchers."
Vera hadn’t expected him to have thought things through so thoroughly and couldn’t help but nod blankly. Just as she was about to ask how he knew, he didn’t keep her in suspense and resolved her doubts directly. "Jack Judd told me."
Vera slapped a hand to her forehead. She’d almost forgotten—Jack Judd was Nathaniel’s certified number one fanboy. He had, in all likelihood, told Nathaniel every last detail about how she had dealt with Rona Langdon and Cara Preston back in Crestfall.
’I’ll have to find a chance to have a good, long "talk about life" with Jack Judd sometime,’ Vera thought.
Still, for Nathaniel to guess her plan for dealing with Cara Preston based on nothing but Jack Judd’s words... that was just unreal!
She pouted and said, "Nathaniel, sometimes you’re so smart it’s infuriating!"
Nathaniel’s tone was perfectly level. "I thought you’d be proud of me."
Vera: "..."
’Oh, Jade Emperor, oh, Queen Mother of the West, please send a god to come and collect this arrogant man!’
She slung the bag of Training Vouchers onto her back, then suddenly gave his butt a sharp slap and bolted for the door. "I’m leaving now!"
Nathaniel was a little surprised by her action but didn’t stop her. The corners of his mouth lifted, a faint smile touching his eyes. It seemed that after their trip to Yulara, she wasn’t so afraid of him anymore. Now she even had the guts to slap his butt.
’My little wife is getting bold! I like it!’
He sincerely felt that he needed to find more opportunities to spend time with her. It would be good for the development of their relationship.
Vera tore downstairs as if a tiger were hot on her heels, nearly crashing into Master Nathan. "Mr. Nathan, something came up at home, so I have to go!" she yelled as she ran. "I’ll come back and cook for you another day!"
Master Nathan immediately realized what had happened, but it was too late to stop Vera. He stood at the foot of the stairs and bellowed up at Nathaniel, "You brat! What did you do to Vera to scare her off like that? You owe me my meal!"
