Chapter 414: Physiognomy Master
Chapter 414: Chapter 414: Physiognomy Master
Vera shook her head. She really hadn’t noticed that small detail.
Alistair Forrest smiled and said, "You can tell at a glance she grew up pampered. She’s probably never worked a day in her life, which is why her fingertips are so delicate. But her knuckles are coarse—that’s something she was born with."
"So, even if she seems exceptional now, she can’t change what’s in her blood. I’d bet you that at least one of her parents is an uncouth, common person."
Hearing his conclusion, Vera couldn’t help but see him in a new light. ’This guy isn’t just a rogue; he actually has some basic observational skills.’
Alistair Forrest looked at her with a smile. "You’re different, though. You may have calluses on your hands from doing a lot of hard work and enduring hardships, but your fingertips are slender, and your hands are perfectly shaped. Your entire bone structure is almost perfectly proportioned. That, combined with your naturally fair and flawless skin, is enough to prove your ancestors were either rich or noble."
"Even if your current circumstances aren’t great, it can’t hide your noble aura. One day, you’ll have a meteoric rise and become a phoenix that looks down upon the world."
Vera decided to take back what she’d just thought. ’This guy is completely unreliable.’
She asked him flatly, "Were your ancestors fortune-tellers or something?"
She had meant it sarcastically, but unexpectedly, his eyes lit up. "That’s right, that’s right! You figured that out too! Honey, you’re incredible!"
As far-fetched as it sounded, he was basically telling the truth. The Forrest Family’s ancestors weren’t just skilled in physiognomy and fortune-telling; they also possessed arts that couldn’t be shown to the public, such as geomancy and other mystical practices.
It was because of these skills that the Forrest Family moved to Marinus before the founding of the new republic. Coupled with their business acumen and their ancestors’ knack for appraising treasures—a byproduct of their mystical trades—they decided to go into the jewelry business. After many years, the Forrest Family’s company had changed significantly, adopting modern metropolitan business strategies.
By the time it got to Alistair Forrest’s generation, however, the ancestral skills were mostly lost. He had only learned a few things about reading people from his grandfather out of curiosity and wasn’t even skilled enough to be called a dabbler.
Vera was speechless.
Nathaniel Nathan shot Alistair Forrest a sidelong glance. Alistair Forrest just smiled and said, "My friend, you may look fierce and unreasonable, but I can see you’re a man of integrity. You’re not the treacherous, sinister type. So no matter how aggressive you are, I’m not afraid of you."
This was the very reason he dared to keep provoking Nathaniel Nathan.
Nathaniel Nathan decided the man was asking for a beating. He reached out, grabbed his hand, and with a swift twist, dislocated the joint. Alistair let out a sharp cry of pain.
Nathaniel asked coolly, "You’re so good at physiognomy. Didn’t you foresee you’d have a bloody calamity today?"
Alistair Forrest glared at him. "Haven’t you ever heard that a seer can’t read his own fate?"
Nathaniel Nathan reached out, grabbed Alistair’s arm, and yanked it back into place. The motion was even more painful than the dislocation, and Alistair cried out again. He struggled for a moment, accidentally smacking his nose against the door, and it immediately started to bleed profusely.
Vera could see that Nathaniel was just trying to teach him a small lesson, so she watched from the sidelines without interfering.
Alistair Forrest wiped at his nose, then looked at the blood on his hand. He let out another yell. "Blood! I’m gonna faint!"
As soon as the words were out of his mouth, he fell directly toward Vera.
