Chapter 207: Luo Zhuo
Feng He shook his head. “I don’t know either, but it should take ten to fifteen days.”
“And that’s the fastest it can be.”
Meng Shili found the timeframe acceptable.
He nodded in understanding. “I’ll be counting on you, then.”
Feng He nodded. “Of course.”
After a bit more conversation, the group left the lab building, the tension finally starting to ease.
Early the next morning, Lin Jingjing dragged herself out of bed.
She glanced at the time. It was only seven in the morning, and the sky outside had yet to fully brighten.
But today was an important day. So, instead of lingering for a minute or two as she usually would, Lin Jingjing threw back the covers and headed straight for the bathroom to wash up.
After changing into her black combat suit, Lin Jingjing stared at her reflection. Her hair hung loosely over her shoulders, and she had deep, dark circles under her eyes.
It was obvious she hadn’t been sleeping well lately.
She grabbed a nearby hair tie and swiftly pulled her hair back.
Once everything was in order, Lin Jingjing emerged from the bathroom. She picked up the Space Ring and dagger from the coffee table, put them on, and then left her dorm.
The vast training grounds were already packed with soldiers, all clad in black combat suits, their faces set with grim determination.
Lin Jingjing had given them the past three days to spend time with their families.
After all, no one knew when this great war would end.
Lin Jingjing had just said a few words and was about to order them onto the warships when Yun Yiyou appeared with Captain Li.
Their arrival stunned all the soldiers below.
‘The King is here!’
Lin Jingjing raised an eyebrow in surprise when she saw the two of them.
The two stood on the high platform in formal attire, Captain Li at Yun Yiyou’s side like a knight protecting his charge.
Yun Yiyou’s gaze fell on Lin Jingjing. The moment he looked at her, she immediately ceded the center position.
Stepping aside, she even made a welcoming gesture.
Yun Yiyou nodded and took the center spot. Lin Jingjing discreetly moved to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with Captain Li.
“What are you two doing here?” Lin Jingjing asked, keeping her voice low enough that only she and Captain Li could hear.
“For an event of this magnitude, the King’s presence is a matter of course.”
“What’s more, the King intends to go with you,” Captain Li replied.
‘Yun Yiyou is coming to the battlefield with us?’
‘That’s fantastic. Our power will be greatly increased.’
After all, Yun Yiyou was the most powerful person in the Empire.
If he didn’t go and they were all wiped out, he’d have to join the fight eventually anyway.
“Good,” Lin Jingjing nodded in approval. “That’s more than good.”
Yun Yiyou was much more verbose, rambling on for a good five or six minutes before he finally concluded.
Once he was done, the soldiers began to file onto the warships in an orderly fashion.
After parting ways with Captain Li, Lin Jingjing headed over to her comrades.
Feng He and the others were also in black combat suits. They stood to one side, their expressions grim, their usual lightheartedness nowhere to be seen.
“Let’s go,” Lin Jingjing said. Then, as if an afterthought, she grinned and added a reminder, “You all better make it back alive.”
“Whoever dies is a puppy.”
Hearing this, the four of them broke into smiles, their serious expressions cracking.
Shi Feng’s usual playful grin returned. “We’re the strongest. How could we possibly die?”
Hearing this, Lin Jingjing reached out and ruffled his hair. ‘It was so soft and fluffy.’
“I hope you can live up to that. Especially you, Shi Feng.”
Her team boarded a warship as well. One after another, the vessels took off, soaring away from the Capital Star.
Once their course was set, they shot through the cosmos at maximum speed.
The journey from the Capital Star to Blue Star would take two days, even with the use of spatial jumps.
News of their departure had already reached Huang Bo Lin’s ears. He was at Su Wen’s bedside, arranging flowers in a vase.
One by one, crimson roses bloomed before him.
“Since they’ll be here soon, we should get ready as well.” Huang Bo Lin placed the last rose in the vase, then leaned down and pressed a kiss to Su Wen’s pale cheek.
“Tell Dr. S to release all the experimental subjects. There’s no need to hold back the most powerful and destructive ones anymore.”
“Yes, sir!”
After his subordinate acknowledged the order and left, only four people remained in the room.
Three men and one woman. Ni Sang had already been killed by Lin Jingjing on D1 Star.
It was his subordinates who had brought her head back.
Huang Bo Lin, however, was not yet aware that Ni Sang was dead. He looked around and asked, “Where’s Ni Sang?”
Beijasi quickly replied, “She was crushed to death by Lin Jingjing.”
Ni Sang had undergone mutation. Her body, her fingernails, her abilities—they were all exceptionally powerful.
‘How could she possibly have been crushed to death?’
Huang Bo Lin was skeptical. ‘When did Lin Jingjing become so powerful?’
“Her head is still in the cryo-chamber,” Beijasi continued.
‘That woman is finally dead. She tried to steal my position, and her arrogant, untamable attitude was sickening.’
‘Good riddance.’
Beijasi was inwardly gloating.
The moment he saw the gaping hole in Ni Sang’s head, all his previous resentment had vanished.
‘Why bother holding a grudge against a dead woman, anyway?’
‘She was just weak in the end.’
The fact that Ni Sang had died at Lin Jingjing’s hands made Huang Bo Lin frown and fall into deep thought.
Among his five administrators, Ni Sang’s power had been in the upper-middle tier.
‘For Lin Jingjing to be able to crush her so easily… it seems I can’t afford to underestimate her.’
Lin Jingjing could be considered the Empire’s second-strongest combatant.
And on top of that, Yun Yiyou was joining the fight as well.
With the Empire’s two greatest powers fighting together, one could only imagine the resulting spectacle.
“You all go make your own preparations. They should be arriving shortly.”
“Oh, and since Ni Sang is dead, give her family a large sum of Star Coins. Enough for them to live out the rest of their lives in the Empire,” Huang Bo Lin added.
He had plenty of Star Coins and was never stingy with them.
The families of anyone who died in his service were always well taken care of.
“Yes, sir.”
After the four of them left, Dr. S entered. He wore a white lab coat and glasses, looking very young and refined.
Yet the things he did were anything but.
“Ni Sang is dead. I have a few other capable assistants. Do you need them?” Dr. S asked bluntly the moment he walked in.
“Luo Zhuo, you’re not planning to leave?” Huang Bo Lin was surprised to see him. He had told him just yesterday to pack up his data and get out of here.
He hadn’t expected him to stay.
“If I leave you, who’s going to capture subjects for my experiments?” Luo Zhuo said with a smile. His gaze then fell on the woman in the bed. “Still no sign of Miss Su waking up?”
