Chapter 206: How Long Will It Take
“That’s the heart of the matter.” Xiang Heng didn’t smile. Instead, he nodded in agreement. “The eye color of those monsters can sometimes be different.”
“It’s because the hidden blood of different mutant beasts also varies.”
“However, the vast majority of mutant beasts have red.”
“There are also a few with other colors.”
Listening to Xiang Heng, Lin Jingjing nodded. ‘It seems there’s a hierarchy in the mutant beast world, too.’
Xiang Heng continued, speaking a lot more. Much of it was technical jargon, and Lin Jingjing was completely lost.
‘I can’t understand a word he’s saying. As expected, it’s best to leave specialized work to the professionals.’
Feng He, on the other hand, listened with great interest, occasionally offering her own insights.
The others watched the two of them chat back and forth. They could understand all the individual words, but when put together, the meaning was lost on them.
“What are you two jabbering about?” Lin Jingjing pulled over a chair and sat down, leaning over the backrest with a puzzled look on her face as she asked them.
“Could you two ‘teachers’ please explain it in terms we common folk can understand?”
Seeing everyone’s confused expressions, the two of them belatedly realized that the others couldn’t understand.
Feng He waved her hand and said, “I don’t really know how to describe it in other words.”
In the end, it was only after Xiang Heng gave an explanation that they began to understand a little.
But only a little. Shi Feng, who was standing nearby, yawned and then asked, “Is this the poison that’s in Captain Beisang’s body?”
Shi Feng’s words made Feng He recall the experiment they had conducted in the lab.
The unknown poison in Captain Beisang’s body might be closely related to this.
With that one sentence, everyone’s eyes turned to Beisang.
But Beisang frowned, thinking it was impossible.
Her body had always been in great health, and it was just a poison. It couldn’t possibly be the hidden blood of a mutant beast.
Seeing everyone still staring at her, Beisang quickly denied it.
“It’s just a common poison in my system. You’re all overthinking this.”
But Feng He shook her head. “No, it’s not a common poison.”
“To know what it is exactly, we’ll need Mr. Xiang to run some tests.”
After speaking, Feng He looked at the others nearby, thought for a moment, and said, “All of you should get checked by Mr. Xiang as well.”
The group, who had just been watching the show, suddenly found themselves becoming the main event: …
‘There’s nothing wrong with us, so why do we have to get checked too?’
“No, no, we’re in perfect health.” The five of them hurriedly waved their hands in refusal.
They were afraid that if they were a second too slow, they’d be dragged off for testing.
Unfortunately for them, this was Lin Jingjing’s turf. Since Lin Jingjing told them to get tested, the six of them could only obediently comply.
After all, when you’re under someone else’s roof, you have to bow your head.
One by one, they lined up for Feng He to draw their blood. After they were done, Shi Feng stood to the side, handing each of them a pill.
They looked at the pills strangely and asked, “What is this?”
“What’s the point of giving this to us?” asked a woman from the Fifth Corps. Her name was Liang Aiyuan, a girl with glasses who looked rather dorky.
Standing among the group, she had the least presence.
Many people would subconsciously overlook her.
“To replenish your body,” Shi Feng replied.
“Doctor Feng thinks your bodies are too weak.”
Blanwen, who had just popped the pill into his mouth, almost choked. ‘Is this guy just flat-out saying none of us are up to snuff?’
Seeing their pale faces, Shi Feng chuckled. “Go on, eat up. It’s good for you.”
“Whether you’re weak or not, well, you all know the answer to that.”
The six of them: …
‘You didn’t have to be so blunt about it.’
Nevertheless, the six of them still swallowed the pills. They were terribly bitter and tasted awful.
Xiang Heng and Feng He took the blood samples into the laboratory. The group stood outside, watching the two of them busy at work.
They wore white lab coats, white gloves, and surgical masks.
They were in full gear.
They stood before the instruments, earnestly focused on their work.
“They look quite professional,” Beisang commented while watching them, her eyes filled with relief.
‘These kids have grown up.’
It took them the entire afternoon to test all six blood samples.
When the tests were finished, they came out with the reports, their faces grave.
Seeing their grave expressions, the group hurried over and asked nervously, “What is it?”
Feng He took off her mask, a hint of pity appearing in her eyes as she looked at the six of them.
Being looked at like that by Feng He, their brows furrowed. It was Tu Hongwan, the Army Commander of the Second Corps, who spoke up. “Judging by your expression, are we all poisoned?”
Feng He nodded, then handed them the documents. “Among the six of you, only the newcomer, Liang Aiyuan, doesn’t have this liquid in her system. The rest of you do.”
“Furthermore, Mr. Xiang speculates that this hidden liquid has been in your bodies for several years.”
What she meant was that this hidden blood had been injected into their bodies a long time ago.
Exactly how long, they couldn’t tell.
“No way. I thought only Captain Beisang had it. Turns out you all got team-wiped?” Shi Feng said, looking at them in shock.
“Then how do we get rid of this hidden blood? What harm does it do to our bodies?” Beisang asked with a frown.
Just then, Xiang Heng walked over and answered, “Currently, there isn’t much harm. However, you might turn into monsters like Kulundi.”
If they turned into monsters, the one who would benefit would be Huang Bo Lin.
Lin Jingjing’s group would have to spend even more time dealing with them. Besides, these people before her were Army Commanders, and every single one of them was incredibly powerful.
If they really did turn into mindless monsters, Lin Jingjing would ultimately have no choice but to kill them.
Because there was no antidote that could turn them back.
“You’d actually be a lower grade than Kulundi. You’d have no rationality,” Xiang Heng added, twisting the knife.
Heh heh…
“Then what should we do?” Beisang asked, frowning. “If that’s the case, how could we possibly help?”
What if Huang Bo Lin used some trick and they all transformed into monsters at once? It would be a disaster.
Seeing their furrowed brows and worried expressions, Xiang Heng continued, “But don’t worry. I can develop a way to eliminate this hidden blood from your bodies, it will just take some time.”
Hearing this, the group gave him a long, hard look and then sighed.
“Next time, just say everything at once,” Beisang suggested.
“Yeah, all at once.”
“How long will the research take?” Meng Shili asked. He needed a specific timeframe.
‘Don’t tell me it’s going to take something like five or six years.’
Xiang Heng thought for a moment, then looked over at Feng He. “If the two of us work on it, how long will it take?”
