Chapter 198: We Protect You
The warships raced to the five planets. Upon disembarking, they were greeted by a scene of utter devastation: cities in ruins, and monsters swarming the skies and ground, destroying everything and devouring people.
That group had developed new monsters. These ones had massive wings and flew through the air.
The local police and the planet’s military forces were using laser guns to take down these monsters, but to no avail.
Even when they used the newest, most powerful lasers and cannons, these mutant beasts were incredibly difficult to kill.
Their exteriors were seemingly indestructible, making it difficult to kill them with explosives.
Because they were so hard to kill, and with the black hole constantly open, the number of monsters just kept growing.
The more monsters there were, the faster the death toll climbed.
Many people were devoured by the monsters before they could even react. Some managed to evade the mutant beasts for a while, but in the end, they couldn’t escape.
The skyscrapers had all collapsed, and there was no telling how many people had died, buried beneath the rubble.
In just a few short hours, the once-thriving city had become a living hell.
Cries and screams filled everyone’s ears.
But no one could save them, because everyone was struggling just to stay alive.
Lin Jingjing stepped off the warship. Seeing D1 Planet in its current state, her hands clenched into fists and her eyes reddened.
The soldiers who followed her off the ship also wore expressions of anguish at the sight.
‘It’s happening again. Humanity is so insignificant in the face of these monsters.’
“Everyone, go save people.” Lin Jingjing didn’t say much more, simply giving the order. “And remember to come back alive.”
“Yes, ma’am!”
After acknowledging the order, all the soldiers immediately grabbed their weapons and charged forward.
It wasn’t just Lin Jingjing and her team who had come to provide support; the Six Great Armies had also arrived.
The Six Great Armies had also split up to conduct rescue operations.
Perhaps it was because of what Lin Jingjing and her team had done during their previous live broadcasts that they had cultivated such a positive image among the common people.
People felt that Lin Jingjing’s group genuinely cared about ordinary citizens and wouldn’t look down on them just because they were normal people without spiritual power.
Their eyes weren’t filled with condescending disdain and arrogance.
This earned her group high praise from the public. In contrast, the Six Great Armies, the supposed protectors of the Guardian Empire’s peace, were frequently criticized by netizens.
Over time, they had slowly begun to learn from Lin Jingjing’s example, rushing to any place where the masses faced life-threatening danger—all in an effort to restore their reputation.
When Beisang appeared next to her, Lin Jingjing, clad in a black combat suit and holding a sniper rifle, was taken aback.
“Captain Beisang, what are you doing here?” Lin Jingjing asked, surprised.
“Here to save people, of course,” Beisang said with a smile.
After the last battle in the desert, and after witnessing what happened when Lin Jingjing’s team went to S12 Star to disarm the bombs, Beisang had come to understand one thing: if you put the people first in your heart, the people will put you first in theirs.
Hearing this, Lin Jingjing raised an eyebrow, not having expected that to be the reason.
“Well then… let’s give it our all.” After speaking, Lin Jingjing put on her glasses and charged forward.
Her Mecha piloting skills weren’t great, but her sniping was top-notch.
Lin Jingjing found a good spot and lay prone, then took her sniper rifle and aimed at the monsters flying through the air, which were also periodically spitting out laser beams.
These monsters were getting stronger and stronger. Lin Jingjing’s aim was impeccable. This sniper rifle had been specially developed for her by Shi Feng.
It was immensely powerful; a single shot was enough to blow a monster’s head off.
Not only that, but the sniper rifle had another special feature: it could form bullets out of condensed spiritual power.
This solved the problem of what to do after running out of conventional ammunition.
After she took down a flying monster with a single shot, the other creatures noticed something was wrong.
They flapped their wings, tilted their heads back, and shrieked into the air, one piercing cry after another.
The sound was so loud and sharp that Lin Jingjing frowned and raised her hands to cover her ears.
The screeching finally subsided after a long moment. When Lin Jingjing lowered her hands from her ears and looked up, she saw that countless flying monsters had gathered not far away.
Their bodies were a bluish-purple, their great maws open to reveal sharp teeth, and the massive wings on their backs beat steadily.
And their grayish-brown eyes were locked onto Lin Jingjing, who was a kilometer away.
Seeing the swarm of monsters through her glasses, Lin Jingjing cursed inwardly. ‘This is bad.’
‘I was so well hidden, but these flying monsters still found me.’
Lin Jingjing quickly raised a hand, protecting herself with a Spirit Shield.
Then she shouldered her sniper rifle, turned, and started to run.
The moment she ran, the flying monsters hovering in the air immediately dove toward her.
There were so many of them that they merged into the shape of a giant mouth as they flew toward Lin Jingjing.
“Oh, for crying out loud—” Lin Jingjing muttered as she ran, glancing back at the scene.
She summoned the Eagle from her Spiritual World, leaped onto its back, and shouted, “Go, fast!”
And so, a new scene unfolded in the sky.
Lin Jingjing rode the Eagle in the lead, with the swarm of flying monsters in hot pursuit.
Gathered together, their spiritual power was even stronger. They created a massive energy ball and spat it directly at Lin Jingjing.
When the first one missed, they fired a second. Lin Jingjing gripped the Eagle’s feathers tightly to keep from falling off.
The Eagle had a mind of its own. It beat its wings, dodging the energy balls as it flew.
After dodging for a while, Lin Jingjing found a stable position on the Eagle’s back from which she could fire at the pursuing monsters without falling.
Lin Jingjing put away her sniper rifle and then pulled a large laser cannon out of her Space Ring.
Aiming it at them, she fired directly into the swarm.
The blast broke their formation. Lin Jingjing smirked, then hurriedly fired at them again.
Not only that, but she also used her spiritual power to condense countless cannonballs and hurled them at the monsters.
“You want to chase me? I’ll finish you all!” Lin Jingjing said with a hint of triumph.
The explosions were deafening. Just as Lin Jingjing thought she had successfully escaped the monsters’ attack, the smoke cleared.
The flying monsters had created a massive barrier, blocking all of the projectiles.
Seeing this, Lin Jingjing’s eyes widened in disbelief.
‘No way! Have these monsters evolved to this extent?’
“Wait, why are they only chasing me?” Lin Jingjing looked left and right, discovering that all the flying monsters were heading in her direction.
They were completely ignoring everyone else.
‘Damn, have I become their personal bullseye?’
The others, piloting their Mecha, saw what was happening and immediately maneuvered their machines to get in front of Lin Jingjing.
They had also noticed that all the flying monsters were targeting Lin Jingjing.
“Captain Lin, we’ll protect you!”
“You need to get out of here!”
