Chapter 370: Jealousy
Chapter 370: Chapter 370: Jealousy
The police officer sized up Su Qing with curiosity. ’A delicate-looking girl like her could beat two grown men this badly?’
Just look at that nosebleed. And the other man was walking with a heavy limp. It was clear they’d taken quite a beating.
Su Qing nodded calmly. "Yes. They were following my sister and me. They made some vulgar comments and threatened to grab us, so I got angry and beat them up."
’Good grief, she’s tough.’
The officer marveled to himself, then said, "Alright, let’s get your statement."
With that, the officer called over a colleague, who led the two men into an interrogation room. Statements were taken from everyone. Afterward, the officer told Su Qing and Li Huan they could go home, promising to notify them once the investigation yielded results.
Su Qing then said to the officer, "Officer, I think those two were following us ever since we left the university. I suspect they were targeting us for a reason. Please make sure to question them thoroughly."
’Su Qing had a gut feeling that those two men were after her specifically. As for the reason why, that was something the police would have to find out.’
"Alright, I understand," the officer said with a nod. "Don’t worry, we’ll be sure to question them thoroughly."
It was almost noon by the time they left the police station, so Su Qing and Li Huan rushed home. When they arrived at the family compound, lunch was just about to be served. Since it was the weekend and their own children weren’t home, Li Fenghuo and Shang Yuqi had come over to Mr. Li’s house. Gu Xinsheng, who was growing ever closer to Li Wan, was also joining them for the weekend meal. Thus, everyone was pleasantly surprised when Su Qing and Li Huan walked through the door. They had all assumed Li Huan would be recuperating at Beijing University for two weeks because of her injury. In fact, just a moment ago, they were discussing plans to visit the two of them tomorrow.
"Oh my, come over here, quick!" Mrs. Li said, her face beaming with joy as she looked at her granddaughters. She eagerly beckoned them closer. Taking one by each hand, she launched into a barrage of questions: Were their studies tiring? Were they getting along with their classmates? She turned to Li Huan, asking if her injury still hurt, then asked them both if they were hungry. In the next breath, she was calling for everyone to serve lunch immediately.
Su Qing smiled, patiently answering each of Mrs. Li’s questions and basking in her family’s loving concern.
The rest of the family just smiled, not trying to compete with Mrs. Li for the girls’ attention. Instead, they went to the kitchen to bring out the dishes. Mr. Li, however, protested, "You’re hogging both of our granddaughters! At least let me have one."
"You old coot, don’t tell me you’re jealous?" Mrs. Li retorted, pulling both Su Qing and Li Huan into a tight hug. "You’ll have to wait your turn."
’It’s been days since I’ve seen my granddaughters. I haven’t gotten to dote on them nearly enough yet.’
"Hey! Now you’re going too far, old woman," Mr. Li said, his eyes wide in mock indignation.
Su Qing and Li Huan stifled their laughter and quickly moved to placate the elderly couple, who were bickering like children. Li Huan then took out some pastries. "Grandpa, Grandma," she said, "Qingqing made these pastries herself. They’re delicious! She made them especially for you."
"Oh, my, they look absolutely wonderful!" Mrs. Li beamed as she examined the unique-looking pastries. "Our Qingqing is just so talented. We simply have to try these."
Li Wan, who was just bringing out another dish, overheard them and said with a laugh, "Mom, let’s save those pastries for the afternoon. Lunch is ready, and if you eat them now, you’ll spoil your appetite."
"Oh, alright," Mrs. Li readily agreed, always one to listen to her daughter. She pulled Su Qing and Li Huan toward the dining table, adding, "You two need to come home earlier next time. You nearly missed lunch today!"
Li Huan sighed at her words. "Qingqing and I left campus bright and early. We would have been here sooner if we hadn’t had to make a trip to the police..."
As she said this, Li Huan quickly slapped a hand over her mouth. She and Su Qing had planned not to tell the family what had happened, mainly because they didn’t want to worry them. She couldn’t believe she had just blurted it out.
"What? The police?" Li Fenghuo’s head snapped toward Su Qing and Li Huan. "Why did you go to the police station? What happened? Was it the Song Family causing trouble again?"
