Chapter 326: Sniper

Chapter 326: Chapter 326: Sniper

Brother Qi was on the verge of a mental breakdown.

He suddenly remembered how, when he and his men were approaching earlier, they had all inexplicably tripped. Not only had they tripped, but they had even dropped their guns in the process.

When they’d arrived earlier, there were vines on the ground. Tripping over them in the dark was one thing, but what about now? What was going on? He remembered with perfect clarity that the area in front of the cabin had been cleared. There weren’t any vines.

What had tripped him?

Though Brother Qi’s hands were stained with wicked deeds, he was a firm believer in ghosts and gods. Not only did his gang worship Lord Guan, but he also personally carried a peace charm obtained from a Feng Shui Master.

The more Brother Qi thought about it, the more he panicked. He immediately started scrambling away on all fours, only to be tripped again.

That did it. Brother Qi completely broke down. "A ghost! A ghost! Go away! Get away from me!"

Shouting, Brother Qi struggled to crawl away, but he tripped with every single step. Vaguely, he thought he saw something vanish with a WHOOSH right in front of his eyes.

"A ghost! A ghost!" Brother Qi’s voice grew even more shrill, as if he were about to shred his vocal cords.

Liu Peng scratched his head, confused about why the man was screaming about ghosts. ’Where are the ghosts? Isn’t this promoting feudal superstition? That’s not allowed.’

Liu Peng stepped forward and restrained Brother Qi, barking, "You’re not allowed to promote feudal superstitions, you hear?"

Brother Qi was still having a meltdown. "A ghost! There really is a ghost! I saw it!"

’If there are no ghosts, then what was that thing that just flashed before my eyes?’

Su Qing held back a laugh. She had done it on purpose, controlling a vine to dangle right in front of Brother Qi’s eyes. ’Hmph, you little punk. How dare you bully my friends? I’ll scare you half to death!’

Brother Qi and his six or seven henchmen were all subdued, but Liu Peng only had one pair of handcuffs. Su Qing blinked, slipped into the cabin, and using her dimensional space, retrieved a coil of rope. She came out and handed it to Liu Peng. "Here’s some rope."

Liu Peng was overjoyed. "This rope is great."

Cheng Beilin and Du Haoran, however, were baffled. ’There was rope in the cabin? How did we not notice?’

Su Qing pretended not to see their confused expressions. ’Rope? If she said there was rope, then there was rope. They were just the ones who hadn’t spotted it.’

Liu Peng tied Brother Qi and his men together in a line, then prepared to lead Su Qing and the others back. After just two steps, Su Qing suddenly paused. She narrowed her eyes for a split second before her expression returned to normal, as if nothing had happened.

Meanwhile, Qiao Wensong, having just apprehended a group of violent criminals with his team, was approaching Gu Xinsheng to report. He had been wondering where Su Qing and Liu Peng had gone when he suddenly heard a faint whistling sound cut through the air. Alarmed, he yelled to Gu Xinsheng, "Chief, get down! Sniper!"

Qiao Wensong immediately moved to dive in front of Gu Xinsheng to shield him from the bullet.

But Gu Xinsheng had risen through the ranks by completing countless dangerous missions; his skills and reflexes were top-notch. The moment Qiao Wensong shouted, he had already sensed the danger and immediately dropped into a roll.

In the frantic moment, neither Gu Xinsheng nor Qiao Wensong noticed that the surrounding vines and wild grasses had seemed to come alive, wrapping around Gu Xinsheng’s body. They didn’t restrict his movements, merely covering him silently, with a few vines even creeping secretly toward the top of his head.

"Chief, move!" The first shot missed, but another followed in quick succession. Qiao Wensong’s heart pounded with terror and vexation. ’To think there was a sniper in this plantation we failed to flush out, letting them hide in the shadows and attack the Chief!’

But Qiao Wensong didn’t have time to lunge for Gu Xinsheng again; all he could do was scream for him to take cover.

Two bullets arrived in rapid succession. Gu Xinsheng had no time to react and could only try to shield his vital organs.

Then, Gu Xinsheng felt something strike his back.

’I’ve been shot!’

That was Gu Xinsheng’s first thought.

"Chief!" Thankfully, a third shot didn’t follow. Qiao Wensong quickly pulled Gu Xinsheng behind a tree for cover. Just then, another team leader, Su Hao, arrived to report. Seeing the scene, he flew into a rage. "Son of a bitch! There’s still a sniper!"

He grew even angrier when he saw Liu Peng wasn’t by Gu Xinsheng’s side. "Where’s his guard? Where’s his damn guard at a time like this?"

"I’m fine." Although Gu Xinsheng had felt the impact on his back, there was no pain.

Qiao Wensong quickly said to Su Hao, "Captain Su, three o’clock! The sniper’s over there."

"Son of a bitch, I’ll get him myself," Su Hao cursed, leading his men in a charge.

"Chief, let me see the wound—" Qiao Wensong’s words caught in his throat as his eyes widened, staring at the vines covering Gu Xinsheng’s body.

’Are my eyes playing tricks on me?’
