Chapter 325: There’s a Ghost
Chapter 325: Chapter 325: There’s a Ghost
"Qingqing!"
Hearing the sound of the cabin door opening, Cheng Beilin and Du Haoran shrank into a corner, terrified. When they saw it was Su Qing who came in, Cheng Beilin let out a huge sigh of relief.
Because Du Haoran had been obedient, Brother Qi’s men hadn’t made things difficult for Cheng Beilin these past two days. They even sent Du Haoran back every night, and the two of them remained locked in this small wooden cabin. The only thing was, there were no beds in the cabin. Their captors had only given them two straw mats, so that’s what they had to sleep on. Fortunately, the weather was hot now, so it was bearable.
Early this morning, chaos had suddenly erupted outside. There were not only disorganized shouts, but also the sound of gunshots mixed in. All of this made Cheng Beilin and Du Haoran extremely nervous. When the cabin door opened just now, they thought it was Brother Qi’s men. They had both actually considered that the commotion outside might be because Su Qing had brought reinforcements, but if Brother Qi came, it was possible he was there to silence them for good.
Thankfully, it was Su Qing.
"We’re here to get you two out of here," Su Qing whispered to Cheng Beilin and Du Haoran. Then she comforted Cheng Beilin, "Beilin, don’t be afraid. The main force is here. They’ve come to rescue you."
"Okay... That’s great!" For days, Cheng Beilin had been hoping she’d be rescued. She’d spent every day in this den of thieves terrified. Now, hearing these words for real, tears immediately started to fall.
Du Haoran’s heart ached seeing this, and he quickly started comforting her in a low voice.
Liu Peng then said, "Let’s get out of here first."
Cheng Beilin and Du Haoran knew time was tight, so they nodded quickly and followed Su Qing and Liu Peng, ready to leave the cabin.
The four of them had just stepped out of the wooden cabin when Brother Qi and his men surrounded them. Seeing the knives in the hands of Brother Qi’s group, Cheng Beilin nervously gripped Du Haoran’s sleeve.
Su Qing wasn’t surprised. When she had arrived, she’d already noticed Brother Qi and his men heading this way. This Brother Qi was a key figure; it was best to let Gu Xinsheng’s people capture him. It wasn’t her place to deal with him privately. So, she had directed some vines to trip them all. While she was at it, she also had the vines yank the guns from their hands and fling them far away, and she kicked up a cloud of dirt to extinguish their torches.
It was the wee hours of the morning, and there was no bonfire here. With the torches now out, it was pitch-black. Brother Qi and his men just thought they had tripped and that’s why the guns had flown from their hands. They didn’t suspect anything else. But it was pitch-dark all around and they couldn’t see a thing. After searching for a bit, they couldn’t find their guns. Brother Qi was in a hurry to take Cheng Beilin, and since they still had knives on them, they had rushed over.
Brother Qi tossed the knife in his hand and snorted, "Just as I thought. The Cheng Family brought all these people, didn’t they? Am I wrong, Miss Cheng? I didn’t think the Cheng Family had this kind of reach, extending their hands all the way to the mainland."
Brother Qi squinted at Cheng Beilin. He was convinced that the people who arrived this morning were here because of the Cheng Family. Although he didn’t know how this place had been exposed, he absolutely had to keep this young miss in his grasp. That way, the other side would have to hold back. Besides, there was still so much of the final payment he hadn’t received. In Brother Qi’s eyes, Cheng Beilin was walking silver, and he couldn’t afford to lose her.
As for Su Qing and Liu Peng, Brother Qi didn’t even give them a second thought. He had six or seven guys on his side, while there were only four on theirs. Cheng Beilin and Du Haoran were just two useless wastes. Of the other two, one was a delicate little girl, and the remaining one, no matter how good a fighter he was, could he beat six or seven people? ’Just kill them,’ he thought.
So, Brother Qi felt victory was in his grasp. With Cheng Beilin in his hands, not only would he have a human shield, but he could also continue to collect money. It was killing two birds with one stone.
Cheng Beilin suppressed the fear in her heart, trying her best to keep her voice from trembling. "You have nowhere left to run. Surrender now if you want to live."
"Hmph, bullshit!" Brother Qi spat. He knew exactly what he’d done. If he were caught, even if the mainland authorities couldn’t do much to him, once he was extradited back to Xiangcheng, he’d be rotting in jail for life. Only an idiot would surrender.
With that, Brother Qi waved his hand and ordered his lackeys, "Grab them and let’s get out of here."
"Yes, Brother Qi." These men were Brother Qi’s trusted followers. They responded at once and charged forward.
Seeing this, Liu Peng quickly pushed Su Qing and the other two behind him, saying, "Get behind me. Be careful."
With that, Liu Peng stepped forward and engaged several of the men in a brawl.
"Ah!" Cheng Beilin cried out as she saw Liu Peng charge forward. But she was too weak to even tie up a chicken; there was nothing she could do to help. She was instantly filled with anxiety, terrified that Liu Peng would be defeated.
Du Haoran was just a doctor, and naturally a bit of a scholar, but he was unwilling to hide while someone else fought and died for him. He shielded Su Qing and Cheng Beilin behind him and prepared to rush forward to help Liu Peng, even if it just meant blocking a knife for him.
"You stay here." Before Du Haoran could rush forward, Su Qing shoved him and Cheng Beilin behind her, took two steps forward, and kicked a lackey who was about to slash Liu Peng, sending him flying ten or fifteen feet.
Brother Qi: ...
Liu Peng: ...
Cheng Beilin and Du Haoran: ...
The other lackeys: ...
"Fuck!" Brother Qi shrieked, practically hopping in place. "Cut them down! Use your knives! Use your knives!"
Brother Qi couldn’t believe it. They had knives; how could they not handle two unarmed people?
It was just carelessness a moment ago.
’Yes, that was it, just a moment of carelessness,’ he thought. ’Who would have thought this damn girl would suddenly run out and kick someone?’
"Su Qing, be careful!" Even though he’d seen Su Qing kick the man, Liu Peng was still worried she would get hurt. This was the great commander’s granddaughter, after all. If she got injured, it would be a disaster.
"Don’t worry," Su Qing replied breezily. She followed up by kicking away two more lackeys. ’I can’t use my Wood Ability in front of these people,’ she thought, ’but as a Fourth Rank Superpower User, why would I be afraid of a few ordinary guys?’
Liu Peng was Gu Xinsheng’s bodyguard, so of course he was highly skilled. Su Qing, needless to say, was even more so. The two of them worked together seamlessly. In a flash, they had taken down all of Brother Qi’s men. Each one was left lying on the ground, groaning and clutching their arms and legs. Forget about continuing to fight—they couldn’t even get up.
Brother Qi’s courage shattered at the sight. He glanced at his men on the ground, immediately spun around, and planned to run without looking back. So many of them couldn’t win; if he charged in now, he’d just be serving himself up on a platter.
He who understands the times is a wise man; when you can’t win, you run.
But how could he possibly get away?
Brother Qi hadn’t taken two steps before something tripped him. He went down hard with a loud THUD. Just the sound of it was painful!
Ignoring the pain, Brother Qi scrambled up and tried to run again, only to be tripped once more. This time, he lay stunned on the ground for a moment, then screamed in terror, "There’s a ghost!"
