Chapter 455: A Treasure Chest Giveaway?
Chapter 455 -453: A Treasure Chest Giveaway?
The thumb-sized girl was still deep in slumber, but Faye Yardley knew for a fact that she had woken up to help her during her Cultivation.
Faye went over and gently touched the girl’s tiny face. ‘I don’t know why she falls asleep the moment I open my eyes, but since the little thing means me no harm, I might as well just keep “raising” her.’
Rolling back onto her bed, Faye Yardley stretched lazily. As she stared at the ceiling, she heard a “CHIRP CHIRP CHIRP” from outside and sat up with a jolt.
The sun was already shining brightly outside.
The weather was fair and sunny in her area, but in another corner of this life at sea, the thunder and lightning hadn’t let up for a moment.
When she walked out onto the small balcony, Jade flew straight toward her and landed on her shoulder.
Faye turned to look at Jade and said with a smile, “Well, look at you, Jade! It’s only been two days, but your feathers aren’t just pale yellow anymore. I think I see a little greenish-yellow coming in.”
CHIRP CHIRP~
Jade looked incredibly smug, its beady eyes darting about.
“By the way, what can you even do? You can’t just chirp, can you? It’s not like your chirps are all that pleasant to listen to.”
‘How could such a person exist?’ Jade had never met anyone like her. ‘Can’t she see how beautiful I am?’
‘And my song? What other bird could possibly compare?’
After teasing Jade for a bit, Faye called her brother, but there was no answer. It seemed he was still busy.
RING RING RING~
Seeing the caller ID, Faye Yardley raised an eyebrow and scoffed, but answered the call anyway.
“Gorgeous Yardley, not very cool of you. You left without even saying goodbye.”
“Mr. Langdon, please. We may know each other, but we’re hardly close. I didn’t even bring up the fact that you blocked my path and almost made me miss my best friend’s wedding. How do you have the audacity to criticize me?”
Logan Langdon was inwardly furious, but he maintained a polite smile. “So it’s my fault, then. I was wondering if Gorgeous Yardley might be interested in making a deal.”
“Let’s hear it.”
“I’ll trade the Egg Ore I have for one of your Tree Eyes.”
Faye Yardley acted surprised. “Tree Eyes? As much as I’d love to make that trade, I don’t have any. When I was on that island, I thought they looked unlucky, so I didn’t pick any up.”
Seeing that her expression didn’t seem fake, Logan Langdon was inclined to believe her.
Seeing him fall silent, Faye Yardley immediately smiled and said, “Is there anything else Mr. Langdon wants? Preferably something I have. To be honest, I’m quite interested in the Egg Ore your island produces. If possible, I’d actually like to trade for some more.”
Logan Langdon shook his head. “Since Gorgeous Yardley doesn’t have any Tree Eyes, we’ll have to talk about this another time. But would you be willing to tell me which island you found them on?”
The smile on Faye Yardley’s face deepened. “Information is always the most expensive commodity. I’m sure Mr. Langdon understands that principle.”
“You weren’t the only one on that island.”
Faye Yardley hummed. “Then by all means, Mr. Langdon, go ask someone else. In any case, getting information from me for free is impossible. Just as I would never expect to get your ore for free.”
At the end of the day, they were both people who kept up appearances. No matter how unpleasant the conversation got, they didn’t completely drop the charade.
Less than ten minutes after hanging up, Logan Langdon had traded one ton of ore to Faye Yardley in exchange for the location of the island with the Tree Eyes.
Faye felt that Logan Langdon hadn’t exactly gotten a bad deal, but she had definitely come out on top.
‘I’m never going back to that island unless I absolutely have to.’
‘As for whether Logan Langdon and his people go, that’s none of my business. It’d be for the best if they did go… and never came back.’
‘Alright, so I’m a mean-spirited woman. Haha…’
‘I didn’t expect Logan Langdon to get back from Nightfall Citadel so quickly. I wonder what he managed to get there.’
‘Speaking of which, Cole Kensington also got through a third of the heart book. I should ask him if he’s felt any special effects.’
‘After all, just by mapping out its pathways, my Health Care Scripture leveled up.’
She leaped directly off the small balcony, but unfortunately, Cole Kensington was out in the sea, “cleaning up” the unruly “seafood.”
Eamon came running over. “Faye! The Star Feather Flowers have bloomed!”
They went to the planting room together. The light blue Star Feather Flowers were in bloom, and their beauty was enchanting.
Just getting near them and breathing in their scent was enough to feel invigorated.
Faye Yardley stroked a petal. “Eamon, transplant some of these around the balcony.”
“Okay.”
CHIRP CHIRP~
Jade danced through the air in the planting room, then picked out a fruit it liked and started to nibble on it.
Faye Yardley saw this and said simply, “Jade, you have to finish any fruit you start eating. If you dare to waste any, I’ll pluck you bare.”
With that said, she transplanted a pot of Star Feather Flowers for herself, moved it to her room, and placed it next to Crystal. She could clearly sense that the tiny girl’s face looked much more vibrant, even in her sleep.
‘Wow, so it has this effect too. It really is a great item for boosting vitality.’
‘This is turning out to be a wonderful day,’ she thought. Since there was nothing special she needed to do, she might as well go fish for treasure chests.
‘This is a sea survival game, after all. If you’re not fishing for treasure chests, you’re missing out on a key part of the experience.’
Faye Yardley went to the thatched shed, settled into the rocking chair, and struck a leisurely pose to begin fishing for treasure chests. Eamon came over and placed the potted Star Feather Flower he had just transplanted next to her, ensuring she could fish in high spirits and a good mood.
And as it turned out—whether because it was an event period and chests were easier to get or not—she got a bite with every single cast.
Wooden Treasure Chests were coming in like they were free, and Iron Treasure Boxes also appeared from time to time.
By the time lunch rolled around, she had only been fishing for a little over two hours, but she had already reeled in an astonishing 15 Wooden Treasure Chests and 6 Iron Treasure Boxes.
Faye figured that at this rate, even someone with half her success would have enough of a haul to justify one person on a family raft dedicating their time solely to fishing for chests.
So, she posted a message on the national channel.
[Faye Yardley: Anyone with spare time should try fishing for treasure chests. The drop rate seems much higher than usual right now. The rewards should be worth the effort. For those on crowded rafts, have the person with the highest Luck Value do the fishing.]
[Whoa, the legend herself has appeared.]
[Then those of us in areas where the storm has passed are in luck! I’m starting to fish right now.]
[And here I thought my luck had just spiked today. Turns out it’s the chest spawn rate that’s been boosted.]
[I’m speechless. The only people who can even see this message are the ones who have time to fish for chests. Those getting hammered by the storm… who knows if they’re even alive.]
[Oh, great saint, what are you so speechless about? Why don’t you go save them yourself?]
[Yardley! Hey, Yardley! We’re Veridians now too, you have to help us… please!]
[Yeah, exactly! Don’t they say Veridians are the most helpful people? So you shouldn’t be stingy about helping your own countrymen, right?]
[The hell? Who the fuck said we’re countrymen? Stay the hell away from me, get lost!]
In reality, Faye Yardley posted the message and didn’t look at the channel again. She couldn’t care less who saw it and who didn’t. ‘After all,’ she thought, ‘saying that much was already kind enough.’
She wasn’t about to start acting like some holier-than-thou saint and try to take care of everyone.
No one, and she meant no one, was going to guilt-trip her into anything.
‘Even if I lost my mind, I still wouldn’t do something that stupid.’
