Chapter 449 - 447: An Unexpected Old Acquaintance
Chapter 449: Chapter 447: An Unexpected Old Acquaintance
On November 1st, arriving in Lumina again, Faye Yardley clearly felt the atmosphere had become festive and joyous.
And right next to her shop, a store had indeed opened that could issue quests to all players.
As a result, the area in front of her shop had become extraordinarily lively.
"Hey, what do you think? The Young City Lord of Lumina is getting married. Will we players even be able to attend?"
"How could everyone be allowed to go? We’d be lucky if the top 10 on the combat power rankings could attend. Maybe the leaders of the major guilds, too."
"Who says we can’t? Didn’t you hear? Any player who prepares enough fireworks can attend the wedding."
"That’s only for one part of it, okay? Look closely. Even with fireworks, you can only participate in one segment of the wedding."
"One segment is still part of the wedding. That counts as attending."
"..."
There were many people in front of the shop, and they never bothered to lower their voices, so Faye Yardley could hear them crystal clear from inside.
’The wedding has become part of a game quest?’
’What is Diana Quinn up to?’
’She probably has no idea how terrifying players can be when they go wild.’
But then again, considering Diana Quinn’s thrill-seeking personality, the uncontrollable nature of players was likely the very reason she was happy to let them participate.
"Yi Yi, go rent a luxury carriage."
Shawn Lawler quickly said, "Boss, I’ll go."
"Alright, then. I’ll have to trouble you, Mr. Kyle."
"No trouble, no trouble at all."
Ever since Shawn Lawler found out that he and Miss Summers could accompany their boss to the wedding, his excitement switch had been flipped and couldn’t be turned off.
For him, being able to meet a good number of Lumina’s nobility was a chance to showcase his abilities.
Faye Yardley stepped out of her shop and saw the siblings, Rhonda Dixon and Warren Dixon, not far from her door.
Warren Dixon ran over. "Hey, long time no see! You’re mainly here to attend the Young City Lord’s wedding, right?"
"Mhm."
"So, have you prepared enough fireworks? The drop rate for them is ridiculously low, and all the stuff you can usually buy from the shops has been restricted for this event..." Warren Dixon rambled on and on before scratching his head. "Sorry, I got carried away and said too much."
"It’s fine. Have you and your sister prepared enough?"
"Not yet. We’re still a little short. We’re planning to take another quest and grind some mobs. That should be enough to get the rest."
Faye Yardley smiled and said, "Well, good luck. I won’t disturb you then."
Warren Dixon wanted to say it was no bother, since his sister was waiting in line anyway.
But he soon saw Quinn Wynn walking their way and immediately furrowed his brow, whispering a warning, "Yardley, be careful of that woman. She’s incredibly cunning and ruthless."
With that, he ran back to his sister’s side and started whispering to her.
Quinn Wynn approached Faye Yardley with a smile. "Yardley, long time no see."
"Hello. Are you here to buy something from the shop?"
"If your esteemed shop has restocked its canned fruit, I’ll definitely buy some."
Faye Yardley shrugged. That wasn’t her department. She could see the income from the canned fruit, but she didn’t manage how it was actually sold.
She had left the shop to Shawn Lawler and Laura Summers, and the two of them were managing it very well. Business was booming, showing no signs of failing whatsoever.
’Trust the people you hire. As the boss, all I need to see is the money coming in.’
"That depends on your luck. It’s not easy for me to get new stock, after all."
Ignoring the gazes of others, Quinn Wynn asked in a low voice, "Yardley, could we step into your shop to talk for a moment?"
That was fine. Faye Yardley had only been planning on mingling with the crowd to hear the latest news anyway.
"Please."
Just as she expected, Quinn Wynn was still the type to seize any opportunity. She seemed certain that Faye Yardley would have received a wedding invitation. "I’d like to ask you, Yardley, to bring me into the wedding. Don’t worry, I’ll make it worth your while."
Some money was worth earning, and some wasn’t worth touching.
Faye Yardley shook her head. "Sorry, I can’t take you in. Today’s occasion is different from the previous banquets."
Despite the clear refusal, Quinn Wynn still wanted to try. "Yardley, why don’t you hear my offer first before you decide?"
Shaking her head again, Faye Yardley refused firmly once more, not trusting that she wouldn’t be tempted if she heard the offer. "No, thank you. If you want to attend, you can find another way to get an invitation yourself, or go gather enough fireworks."
Quinn Wynn was very disappointed. She wanted to get close to the bride so she could complete a random quest from the Young City Lord’s younger sister.
But after waiting for so many days, the person most likely to get her into the wedding had just rejected her outright, robbing her of the simplest and most effective method.
Faye Yardley, on the other hand, thought that this woman was just as calculating as Warren Dixon had said.
’As for being ruthless... when you’re trying to make it in this world, who plays nice?’
’She herself didn’t.’
The luxury carriage pulling up in front of the shop caused a bit of a commotion.
Faye Yardley just smiled. "Apologies, but I have to go. I wish you good luck."
As she stood up, Faye Yardley looked at Quinn Wynn and added pointedly, "Oh, right. Don’t go around causing trouble using my name. Otherwise, you won’t like the consequences."
Quinn Wynn...
’Was I just threatened?!’
But she had, in fact, been planning to use her name to get to the City Lord’s Manor...
"Heh~"
’She must come from a powerful family in real life. How else could she play the game so little yet get stronger every time I see her?’
So, her warning couldn’t be completely ignored.
In high spirits, Faye Yardley called for Laura Summers, and together they left the shop and boarded the luxury carriage.
As the carriage clopped away, Warren Dixon said with envy, "Yardley is really living the good life."
Rhonda Dixon hummed in agreement. "Get rid of those little ideas of yours. You don’t have a chance."
Warren Dixon: ...
Arriving at the entrance of the City Lord’s Manor, they found it was already bustling with traffic, but thankfully, everything was orderly.
They joined the queue of carriages, advanced in an orderly fashion, and soon it was Faye Yardley’s turn.
Just as she had Shawn Lawler take out the invitation, the second butler came out personally to greet them.
"Miss Yardley, you’re here at last! Please, come inside."
Because she was attending the wedding today, Faye Yardley had changed into a pomegranate-style dress of goose-yellow silk, embroidered with pear blossoms and cloud patterns. While in the carriage, she’d had Miss Summers help her redo her hair.
The Ruby Hairpin was hidden in her chignon, and she wore a pearl hair ornament on her head.
Faye Yardley had thought Diana Quinn had sent the second butler to receive her, but to her surprise, the people she saw after being led to the flower hall were Nora Nash and Momo.
Nora Nash saw her and gave a gentle smile. "You’re here."
"Island Master Nash, Count Nicholas, I didn’t expect to see you here. It’s been a while. How have you been?" Faye Yardley was both surprised and happy to see them.
Momo laughed heartily. "Very well! And judging by your complexion, you seem to have been doing very well for yourself recently, too."
"Thanks to you both, I have indeed been doing quite well lately."
