Chapter 427 - 425: Ghostly Things
Chapter 427: Chapter 425: Ghostly Things
[Your soul’s Divine Sense has been enhanced.]
That was the only message she received, and after a careful self-assessment, Faye Yardley felt no different at all.
’What’s the use of this?’
She asked the system, but it gave no answer. After asking a few more times, the system’s only reply was "Please explore on your own."
So, Faye Yardley stopped eating them and stored the rest in her private warehouse.
She was also running low on bullets.
And she had very few Soul Destruction Talismans left.
’So, should I make a trip back to the island?’
After some thought, Faye Yardley realized she didn’t have to go back to the island herself. She could use the island’s guest invitation feature to invite Finn Ford or Caleb Colby. That way, they could handle her needs and their own at the same time.
Besides, making an Invitation Card was much cheaper than traveling back to the island herself.
She called Finn Ford, who said it was no problem at all. In fact, he was honored, as he had never been to her island before, and he agreed to accept her trade before making the trip.
RING RING RING~
"Ethan, what’s up?"
"Faye, you haven’t left your raft, have you? There are invisible things out in the fog, so be careful. Several of our guild members have been attacked and injured. We tried to fight back, but normal weapons have no effect."
Faye let out a soft "Oh." "Did you try asking Master Veridian for some Golden Light Talismans or Soul Destruction Talismans?"
Ethan Yardley replied, "We traded for some, but those ghostly things attack once and then vanish. We can’t fight back if we don’t know where they are. We’ve already wasted several Soul Destruction Talismans. We also activated a Golden Light Talisman. It damaged them, but it wasn’t enough for a one-hit kill, so I told everyone to get back on their rafts."
Faye hummed in understanding and sent Ethan Yardley a Soul Crystal. "I killed a few and got this. I even ate one, but it doesn’t feel like anything changed in my body. Wait a second..."
She suddenly turned to the vine. "Vine, if someone eats your leaves, can it give them the temporary ability to see soul bodies?"
The vine gave an affirmative reply.
Faye couldn’t help but glance toward the stables. ’Bella has eaten so many of those leaves. Plus, she’s a Skeletal Warhorse to begin with. Does that mean she could see them all along?’
’And when I touched the leaves before, the system didn’t give me any notification. This must mean the system doesn’t proactively tell you about every good thing you find.’
She asked the vine for five leaves and sent them to her brother.
"Ethan, eat one of these and see if you can spot the soul bodies outside. If it works, you can use the Golden Light Talismans and Soul Destruction Talismans to wipe them all out."
"You’re still as reckless as ever. Next time, let me try it first before you do."
"I know, I know."
Her dismissive tone made Ethan Yardley’s heart ache with frustration.
’What’s wrong? Does she not trust me?’
After accepting the items and hanging up, Ethan Yardley traded for more talismans from Master Veridian, ate one of the leaves, and disembarked from his raft to hunt the ghostly creatures.
’I really can’t let my little sister leave me in the dust!’
Faye wasn’t concerned with what her brother was thinking. As long as he was safe, that was all that mattered to her.
She was no longer a little girl waiting for someone else to protect her.
’He should have more faith in me,’ she thought. ’After all, I’m number one on Veridia’s combat power rankings right now.’
’If I can’t handle it, then there are very few people who can.’
Still, knowing that someone cared about her and was worried for her sake made Faye very happy.
MEOW~
A black shadow leaped onto her shoulder.
Seeing him, Faye happily reached out to scratch his head. "Blackwood, you’re awake!" she said cheerfully. "How are you? Your stomach isn’t upset, is it?"
MEOW~
Soon, Blackwood leaped off the raft and charged into the misty vapor.
’Blackwood really is a restless cat.’
’Maybe it’s because of this personality that he was turned into a Bronze Cat Statue?’
But regardless, Blackwood had indeed been a great help to her.
Seeing that Lucy White and Cole Kensington were also eager for action, Faye Yardley had them each eat a leaf and ride out on Bella.
As for how they would kill the ghostly things in the vapor, that would be up to their own skills.
Not long after they left, Eamon ran excitedly from the cultivation room toward Faye Yardley. "Faye, come quick! The red apricots you had me plant last time have fruited early!"
"Really? That’s wonderful!"
Faye was thrilled as well and immediately hurried toward the cultivation room.
Sure enough, the red apricot tree already bore two fruits, though they were still small. The rest of the branches were still in bloom, and the nearby clementine tree showed no signs of fruiting at all.
This tree, after all, was an item from the Fairy Tale World event.
’I wonder if the red apricots I’ve grown myself will have the same special effects as the ones in the Fairy Tale World.’
’If they can also temporarily boost my luck, then I’ve really hit the jackpot.’
"Eamon, how much longer until they’re ripe?"
Eamon said with certainty, "They’ll definitely be ripe in a day or two."
"That’s fantastic! Eamon, you’re incredible."
"Hehe..."
As expected, good news really does lift one’s spirits.
She then glanced around at the other crops in the cultivation room. It had to be said, Eamon was truly skilled; every single plant was well-tended and brimming with vitality.
The watermelons and cucumbers were also growing nicely, so Faye picked a few. Before she left, she gave Eamon a Soul Crystal, which made him so excited he could barely contain himself. He repeatedly promised that he would work even harder and more diligently.
Faye turned back to ask, "Eamon, is this stuff useful for you, too?"
"Of course! It’s useful for all intelligent life," Eamon added, a bit embarrassed. "I don’t know the specifics, but my mom gave me a piece smaller than this once. After I ate it, my learning ability seemed to get much stronger."
"Thanks. Keep up the good work."
"Yeah, I definitely will! Hehe..."
After watching Faye walk away, Eamon looked down at the Soul Crystal in his hand with a dopey grin. He wanted to swallow it immediately, but then a thought stopped him. ’What if I eat it and fall into a deep sleep? Who will take care of all the plants in the cultivation room?’
He decided he had to talk to Second Sister first and explain the care instructions for some of the more important plants.
Faye didn’t concern herself with how he would use it. She carried a large watermelon back to the living room, sliced it in half, and sat down on the swing chair, scooping out the flesh of one half with a spoon.
"Faye, what are you thinking for dinner?"
"You should have some watermelon too, Willow. It’s really refreshing and sweet. I picked a few cucumbers, so how about a cucumber salad and a seafood platter?"
"Sounds good. You can have the watermelon, Faye. I’ll get started on dinner."
Opening the system screen, Faye Yardley checked the total population count on the national channel. It had dropped to nine digits, and the first digit was only a 5.
The final digits were continuously ticking down.
Originally, there had been over 1.6 billion people. Now, only 134 days into this "sea survival" game, that number had already fallen by 1.1 billion.
