Sea Survival: My Luck is Off the Charts

Chapter 417 - 415: Different-colored Reagents

Chapter 417: Chapter 415: Different-colored Reagents

Faye Yardley headed toward the eastern outskirts of Rhovan, walking openly down the main street at a steady pace.

She simply ignored any Evolved Zombie who tried to approach and talk to her.

Any who insisted on pestering her were either frightened away by her cold glare or crippled by her physical force.

And so she walked all the way from the inner city to the outer city, eventually arriving at the foot of the wall.

Looking at the towering wall, Faye Yardley hadn’t expected Rhovan to even have one.

The city she’d encountered in Dungeon No. 3 hadn’t had a wall.

She gazed up at the wall for a good while before reaching out to touch it. The sensation that traveled through her hand told her this wall was anything but simple.

It looked cold and hard, but to her surprise, it felt soft to the touch—and even a little sticky.

She took out a tissue and wiped her seemingly clean gloves.

Then she began to walk along the wall.

Before long, she spotted the city gate.

The gate was closed, however, and guarded by Evolved Zombies wielding heavy weapons.

They allowed no one to approach.

Faye Yardley gave them a single glance, then walked past with a natural air. She simply accepted their stares; after all, they hadn’t made a move against her.

To be honest, there were quite a few people near the wall, but they were all consciously queueing up at the city gate.

’So, is it not time for the gates to open yet?’

Faye wasn’t the only one not in line. But the other loitering Evolved Zombies gazed at the queue, their eyes filled with unconcealable envy.

’Are the people in line heading to the so-called "new city" after living in Rhovan for a month and being confirmed as safe?’

Although it was just a guess, Faye Yardley felt she was pretty close to the mark.

Soon enough, she heard hopeful speculation about the new city coming from the queue.

’As expected. Once you have intelligence, you start having hopeful fantasies about life.’

’Even if they were cannibals before.’

As she walked, Faye Yardley once again slipped into a small alley near the wall.

In a few swift movements, she entered a relatively new-looking high-rise.

She carefully avoided all patrols, moving up one floor at a time.

She had no particular goal and was just wandering around, but when she suddenly spotted a familiar figure, Faye Yardley froze for a second before quickly ducking into hiding.

’I have no intention of catching up with an acquaintance right now.’

"Miss Hughes, it’s almost 9:00, time for the gate to open. Should you be heading over now?"

"Just do what you always do. Oh, and don’t let me find anyone unqualified getting through. You know the consequences if I do."

"Yes, yes, absolutely. An accident like last time will never happen again."

The CLICK-CLACK of high heels entered the elevator and faded away.

Faye Yardley, hiding in a storage room on that floor, remained still even after the sound was gone.

The small window of the storage room faced the city gate, giving her a clear view down below.

DING!

The elevator doors opened again. Chloe Hughes stepped out, followed by the terrified director of Rhovan’s East Gate.

’What on earth is this woman up to? Didn’t she just say she was leaving? Why did she come back after going down only one floor?’

’She couldn’t possibly know I’ve been hiding evolution reagents, could she?’

His heart pounded, but he could only continue to serve her cautiously.

Chloe Hughes paced back and forth in the hallway, her brow slightly furrowed. She went into every office but still found nothing out of the ordinary. After glaring at the cautious director, she got back into the elevator and went down.

Leaning against the storage room’s small window, Faye Yardley looked up at the sky outside. A blue sky, white clouds—it looked so clean and beautiful.

’But who cares about the filthy world under this clean sky?’

With a self-mocking smile, she shifted her gaze to the long queue below. She soon heard the sound of the city gate opening, and more guards armed with heavy weapons appeared.

Soon, Faye Yardley caught another glimpse of Chloe Hughes. She didn’t dare watch for long, but she saw their group bypass the long line to be the first to leave the city. Outside the gate, they got into a vehicle and departed.

Only then did the long queue begin to move, but their progress was much slower. There was a checkpoint for every meter they advanced.

They had to pass through lasers, disinfectant sprays, and other measures before they could successfully leave the city.

So there was no way to speed things up. It also seemed that everyone in line had to hand a card to the personnel at the first checkpoint. Only after it was confirmed to be fine could they proceed.

Now, Faye Yardley began to move. She carefully left the storage room, dashed into the offices one by one, and began to rapidly search for things.

’What I’m looking for isn’t important. The important thing is to look!’

Her luck, it had to be said, was incredibly good. A casual search turned up a good deal of Gold and Silver jewelry. Better yet, inside a safe, she found a box containing six different-colored vials of reagents.

She put them directly into her pack. ’When I leave, the system will deduct points for this, but I have spare points to cover it. Not a big deal.’

Having stolen something—especially reagents that looked important—the natural first response was to flee.

Faye Yardley had just gotten downstairs when the director happily returned to his office. His good mood didn’t last long. Damn it, the reagents he had worked so hard to collect had been completely cleaned out!

"Who was it?!"

A manhunt naturally ensued.

He knew Chloe Hughes’s group couldn’t possibly have taken them, as he’d been by their side the entire time. So who the hell was it?!

Someone had struck in the short time he was away.

His first suspects, naturally, were his colleagues.

’They’d better hope I don’t catch them. Otherwise, being torn to shreds will be the least of their worries.’

While the director was seething with rage and rounding up suspects, Faye Yardley had long since left the building and blended in among the old houses in a nearby alley.

’Tsk, tsk. As expected, you only find good stuff when you go out.’

Faye Yardley’s mood was now as bright as the sky.

As for the man and woman fighting and biting each other in the next room, who cared?

’While they’re busy, I can even raid a few more places. Perfect.’

Time passed as Faye Yardley happily looted one house after another.

[Congratulations to the player team for completing a 3-day stay in the Rhovan side quest of Dungeon No. 3. You may choose to return at any time.]

The moment the system’s voice sounded in her mind, Faye Yardley whipped out her pistol and fired two shots at the two zombies chasing her. She watched their eyes turn a murky gray as they lost their minds and began attacking each other, then chose to return before other Evolved Zombies could surround her.

The first thing she did upon returning was ask Willow Yardley, "Is Kingston back? If so, have him get some rest. I’m going to take a shower."

"He’s back."

"Good."

When Faye Yardley came downstairs feeling refreshed, she saw Cole Kensington also sitting in the living room.

Lucy White was also there, looking at her with a resentful expression.

Faye Yardley walked to the fireplace and looked at Blackwood, who was on the mantelpiece. He still hadn’t recovered. ’Looks like he really has an upset stomach.’

"Sister," Willow said, "I got this orange reagent from that hospital. It seems to be what Evolved Zombies use to regain their senses. I saw a doctor inject this into the temple of a mindless female zombie, and by the third day, she was able to speak, though haltingly."
