Chapter 355: Jennifer’s Tears and Master Gideon’s Disciples
Chapter 355: Chapter 355: Jennifer’s Tears and Master Gideon’s Disciples
Laura Summers wasn’t the only clothing designer on the island—there were several other masters. Designing a couple of new outfits for Jennifer that suited her tastes was no trouble at all.
So, after being showered with compliments, Jennifer was ecstatic. And that’s when Faye Yardley witnessed what it meant to cry tears of joy.
This was...
Tears streamed down her face, and pearls clattered all over the ground.
’If Merlings love to cry so much, why are Mermaid Pearls still so rare?’
’Is it just because the Merling race itself is rare?’
Whatever the reason, it was another great haul. A happy occasion indeed.
Faye Yardley noticed that whenever Jennifer cried too much, she would need to rest. So, after leaving a floor full of pearls behind, she dove into the sea and headed home.
The night sky over Conch Isle was dotted with stars, and the evening breeze was cool.
But even at night, the island’s inhabitants were still bustling about.
Standing on Goliath’s head, Faye Yardley gazed at the scattered lights on the island and the moving silhouettes of people, an inexplicable sense of satisfaction blooming in her heart.
’Looks like my efforts weren’t for nothing after all.’
"System, bring up the models for Conch Isle and the raft."
A miniaturized model of Conch Isle appeared before her. The hidden sections were faded but still visible.
Faye Yardley moved the Teleportation Array to an empty building on the Conch Isle docks, finally taking a great weight off her mind.
This would make it much more convenient for Shawn Lawler and Laura Summers to travel between the island and Lumina every five days.
’Their raft is currently docked at the pier. I should check the national channel to see how this "encounter event" is going. If it isn’t too dangerous, it might be good to let them go back out to sea and participate.’
’Of course, it all depends on what they want. If they’re not interested, they can just hurry back to Lumina and return after the 7th.’
Faye Yardley sent a message to Shawn Lawler and Laura Summers about the Teleportation Array. Their replies were full of joy and excitement.
Even though it only meant skipping the step of boarding her raft, it made things much easier for them.
It wasn’t just easier for them; it was for Faye Yardley, too. After all, the Teleportation Array had been on her raft. If she wasn’t at the island, she would have had to use expensive Invitation Cards to get them aboard.
This new arrangement was the best for all three of them.
She opened the national channel and saw many posts from people who had encountered Master Gideon’s disciples.
Of course, even more people hadn’t encountered them yet and were eagerly waiting.
But in any case, the event didn’t seem to be very dangerous overall.
Master Gideon and his disciples all had wildly different personalities, but none of them seemed to be the type to fly into a murderous rage over a simple disagreement.
Some people’s rafts had been damaged, but as long as they were alive and unhurt, it wasn’t considered a major issue.
’Even if I leave here and go back out to sea tomorrow, there’s no guarantee I’ll run into one.’
Faye Yardley had no idea how many disciples Master Gideon had. So far, only 25 had been accounted for.
But it was unclear if that was all of them.
’It seems like a pretty good event. The system is actually being generous for once.’
The only problem was the heat wave, which was set to last at least seven days. For many, that alone was hell-level difficulty.
Fortunately, the temperature on Conch Isle only peaked at around 33 degrees Celsius, and it was even a little cool at night.
It really felt like a tranquil oasis here.
"Sister, the three of them are heading for the docks."
"Okay, I see them." Faye Yardley replied, hopping down from Goliath’s head.
Leo Sloan, Bonnie Callahan, and Wade Warren boarded the raft and were led by Willow Yardley directly to the terrace in the small garden.
"Island Master."
"Hon!"
"Group Leader."
Faye Yardley was happy to see them. "Come on, have a seat," she said warmly. "Willow prepared some snacks and drinks. Miss Bonnie, Mr. Warren, you just arrived on the island. How is it? Are you settling in okay?"
Bonnie Callahan came right over, gave Faye Yardley a hug, and sat down beside her. "Thanks for taking such good care of me, sweetie. My apartment is on the top floor, but it has a terrace that’s half the size of the place. My parents are planning to grow vegetables and flowers up there. At first, they were dead set against coming to the island, but the moment they arrived, they got incredibly excited. Now they’re saying they wish they’d come sooner!"
"Thank you, Group Leader," Wade Warren said with a smile. "My family is on the first floor, and we have a ring of open space around the building that we can use for a garden. My parents love it. They told me to be sure to thank you properly. If it weren’t for you, we never would have drawn such a great spot. The neighbors are all really friendly and easy to get along with, too."
Unlike them, Leo Sloan had arrived on the island early and was living in a stand-alone house with its own courtyard, so he stayed out of this part of the conversation.
Both of them had openly told him how much they envied his decisiveness back then. Now his own family’s life on the island had settled into a comfortable routine.
Faye Yardley nodded with a smile. "I’m glad you’re happy with it. Please, eat. Don’t let it go to waste."
Inviting the three of them to her raft was a chance for them all to catch up.
"By the way, Mr. Sloan, for future cannery production, please set aside 10%. The rest can go with Mr. Kyle and Miss Summers to Lumina. Of the 10% that’s set aside, have half of it traded to me, and the other half can be given to Thorne to use as an island-wide benefit."
"Alright. I’ve made a note of it." Leo Sloan then changed the subject to what he cared about most. "The school is already built. When will it start enrolling students? And what age group will it be for?"
Bonnie Callahan chimed in, "The school is built already? I’ve been so busy with my family’s new place I haven’t had a chance to look around. My cousin is only eleven; he’ll definitely need to enroll once it opens."
Faye Yardley gave an awkward smile. "I actually don’t know. Thorne is in charge of all that. Mr. Sloan, you could also ask Mr. Franklin. He’s sure to know more about it than I do."
"Alright. A lot of families with children have been asking about it. Including those with kids your age."
Bonnie Callahan groaned. "Oh, come on! I may have been a year shy of graduating college, but I’ve had more than enough school for one lifetime. I hope it’s just for K-9 compulsory education."
She looked at Faye Yardley with a hopeful expression.
Faye Yardley held up her hands. "I don’t know what their plans are, but I imagine they’ll start with the younger kids first. On that note, if there’s anything making your lives difficult, please let me know."
All three of them said they had no complaints; everything was going great so far.
The four of them ate and drank for a while longer before Leo Sloan, Bonnie Callahan, and Wade Warren tactfully took their leave.
Faye Yardley watched them walk onto the docks and leave together. She couldn’t help but sigh internally. ’Now that they’re on the island, things between us are really different.’
’Even though I feel like I haven’t changed, their attitudes toward me definitely have.’
’But that’s just how it is. You can’t force these things.’
’Maybe, from the moment I sent out the invitations to the island, I was already preparing myself for this day.’
"Sister, it’s getting late. You should get some rest."
