Chapter 626 - 470: Fire Element Energy Vortex (Part 2)
Chapter 626: Chapter 470: Fire Element Energy Vortex (Part 2)
After the yellow ghost fire absorbed its trapped main body, it discovered the faint wisp of ghost fire that had escaped.
That wisp of ghost fire had faded from orange back to red. It flickered precariously, on the verge of being assimilated by the surrounding Death Energy at any moment.
The yellow ghost fire’s instincts told it not to leave any loose ends, so it gave chase once more.
The newborn ghost fire’s energy was so faint it was about to go out. Once its flame was extinguished, its nascent existence would vanish completely.
In a flash of desperate inspiration, it looked at the patch of Fire Element Energy. No matter how tyrannical and volatile that energy was, in the face of life and death, the brave know no fear. ’It’s better to risk it all than to be caught and devoured.’
When the yellow ghost fire saw the weak, newborn wisp recklessly dart into the Fire Element Energy, it had no choice but to stop.
’A ghost fire that weak is certain to die in there. My goal has been achieved.’ If it were to follow, there was no guarantee it wouldn’t be scattered and become prey for others of its kind.
The moment the newborn ghost fire entered the Fire Element Energy, the volatile, tyrannical energy suddenly grew quiet. When the searing heat touched the newborn ghost fire’s body, it unexpectedly became as gentle as water, trickling into the nearly extinguished flame of its own accord.
Bathed in the gentle Fire Element Energy, the ghost fire, which had been as thin as a single, almost imperceptible thread of energy, began to grow stronger.
First, it returned to being a red ghost fire. As its body grew, the Fire Element Energy continued to flow into it like a gurgling stream. The red ghost fire fused with this ceaseless supply of Fire Element Energy, and surprisingly, a vortex formed within it.
As the vortex spun, the Fire Element Energy flowed into the ghost fire’s body along with it. Even when its body was saturated and could absorb no more, as long as the vortex spun, the Fire Element Energy could continue to pour inside.
Finally, the vortex stopped spinning, and the newborn ghost fire’s body was saturated with energy. The red ghost fire, once the size of a fingernail, was now as large as a fist.
The red gradually transformed. A tinge of orange slowly seeped out from the vortex within its body, turning it orange as well.
The newborn ghost fire was now the size of a fist, and whenever the vortex inside it spun, that tyrannical and scorching Fire Element Energy would surge forth.
The fire of the Golden Crow was True Sun Fire, and the Fire Element Energy it left behind was exceptionally volatile. It could scorch and incinerate not just a meager ghost fire, but even an intact Soul Consciousness.
The newborn ghost fire had no consciousness or intellect, yet it knew this Fire Element Energy would not harm it. And it was obediently at its command.
As all the Fire Element Energy receded, the yellow ghost fire felt a pang of resentment, but there was nothing it could do.
The four orange ghost fires were now all roughly the same size, with similar amounts of energy. It was as if they had reached some sort of agreement, and the crevices they huddled in were not far from one another.
The Fire Element Energy vanished, and the swamp returned to its former tranquility.
But suddenly, in the very spot where the Fire Element Energy had disappeared, a fist-sized orange ghost fire appeared.
This was a type of kin the other five ghost fires had never seen before.
This ghost fire was of the orange rank, yet it was a size larger than the yellow ghost fire.
Among ghost fires of similar size, the one with the higher rank was more formidable. Although the yellow ghost fire didn’t know where this new kin had sprung from, it decided to put it in its place.
It flew up arrogantly and charged at the fist-sized orange ghost fire. However, just as it drew near, a volatile blast of Fire Element Energy erupted from the orange ghost fire’s body, instantly scattering the yellow one.
Only then did the yellow ghost fire realize that this was no newcomer. It was the very same newborn ghost fire that had been on the verge of death, now returned for revenge after absorbing the Fire Element Energy.
The Fire Element Energy, channeled through the distinct vortex in its body, was even more powerful than the ambient energy had been before.
This time, the yellow ghost fire was instantly shattered into more than thirty wisps, each smaller than a fingernail, their flames tiny and weak.
The four orange ghost fires suddenly reappeared, but they trembled in fear when they saw the orange flame before them, now emanating Fire Element Energy.
The yellow ghost fire’s energy could indeed help them advance in rank. However, the Fire Element Energy radiating from this orange ghost fire filled them with instinctual fear, making them want to retreat.
Seeing the four ghost fires retreat for no reason, the newborn ghost fire ignored them and began to hunt down and absorb the scattered fragments of the yellow ghost fire one by one.
The yellow ghost fire’s body truly contained a vast amount of power. After absorbing just over half of it, the newborn’s own body began to shift from orange toward yellow.
However, just as it thought it would successfully transform, the vortex inside it began to spin again. The power it had just absorbed was converted into Fire Element Energy and completely sucked into the vortex.
The energy that emerged from the vortex was, surprisingly, still Fire Element Energy.
The power of the yellow ghost fire it had absorbed had been converted.
Its rank, which should have advanced to yellow, reverted to orange.
It had no emotions or thoughts; it only knew to devour and advance. And so, in this vast swamp, only the four orange ghost fires remained.
If the yellow ghost fire hadn’t been enough for it to advance, four orange ones—each only the size of a fingernail—would be even less so. But it was better than nothing.
However, although the four ghost fires were of a lower rank and wouldn’t be its match even if they attacked together, they had survived in this swamp for a very long time.
They were cautious and careful. At the slightest hint of trouble or potential danger, they would rather hide and not emerge than risk showing themselves for even a moment.
The newborn ghost fire lost its patience.
The Fire Element Energy inside it was like a spark of Star-fire, giving rise to a strange feeling. It seemed to crave growth, advancement, and power more than ever.
It seemed to dislike the darkness and desolate silence here.
So its body leaped up and flew toward the deeper parts of the swamp. It sensed that more power, power that could fuel its evolution, existed there.
’Only the strong survive.’ At that moment, the wisp of ghost fire seemed to have its very first thought since its birth.
’I must grow stronger.’
